  • In this study, a microstructural investigation was conducted on the cracking phenonmenon occurring during hot rolling of Fe-23Mn high-manganese steels with different aluminium and carbon contents. Particular emphasis was placed on the phase stability of austenite and ferrite dependent on the chemical composition. An increase in the aluminum content promoted the formation of ferrite band structures which were easily deformed or cracked. In the steels containing high carbon contents of 0.4 wt.% or higher, on the other hand, the volume fraction and thickness of ferrite bands decreased and thus the cracking frequency was significantly reduced. Based on these findings, it is said that the microstructural evolution occurring during hot rolling of high-manganese steels with different aluminium and carbon contents plays an important role in the cracking phenomenon. To prevent the cracking, therefore, the formation of second phases such as ferrite should be minimized during the hot rolling by the appropriate control of the chemical composition and process parameters

  • It was investigated that two rods of aluminium can be welded by hot extru-pressure welding method with stepped welding dies, and that the welding pressure on the welding surface were analyzed by computer simulation according to the stepped shapes of welding dies. It was known by computer simulation that welding pressure on the welding section of rods welded using stepped welding dies without eccentricity is lowerer than the welding pressure of rods welded using stepped welding dies with eccentricity of welding surface, and that the welding pressure on the welding section of rods using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies is higher than the welding pressure of rods using stepped welding dies without eccentricity. And it was known by experiments that two rods of aluminium can be welded on the end sections by hot pressure welding method using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies without relative rotational movement of contacted aluminium rods needed for the purpose of friction heating and pressure.

  • This research aims to study an effect of sodium chloride solution concentration on the corrosion rate of AA1100 aluminium alloy and SGACD zinc coated steel lap joint with a test duration of 30 days and a test temperature of $45^{\circ}$. The summarized results are as follows. Increase of the NaCl solution concentration increased the weight loss of Al, corrosion rate of Al, weight loss of Fe and also decreased the corrosion rate of Fe. Increase of the test duration affected to increase the weight loss and corrosion rate of Al and also decrease the weight loss and corrosion rate of Fe. The corrosion that was formed in a lap joint consisted of the uniform corrosion on the surface of the metals and the galvanic corrosion in the lap area of the joint. The maximum weight loss of AA 1100 aluminium and SGACD zinc coated steel that was occurred in the sodium chloride with 3.25% was 2.203% and 3.208%, respectively.. The maximum corrosion rate of AA 1100 aluminium and SGACD zinc coated steel that was occurred in 4.00% and 3.5% sodium chloride solution was 0.156 mm/year and 0.479 mm/year, respectively.

  • Outdoor exposure tests using of 7B04 aluminium alloy samples including plate, tensile and various SCC samples were carried out in Tuandao station, Shandong province (East of China) and Wanning station, Hainan province (South of China). Corrosion characteristics including weight loss, microstructure, tensile strength and SCC susceptibility were investigated. The corrosion rates in Tuandao and Wanning showed high to low and the corrosion rates changed to the following equation of $w=at^b$ (b<1). The corrosion of 7B04 aluminium alloy in Wanning was more serious than that in Tuandao. Pitting appeared at early stage of expose test, and it can be changed to general corrosion with test time extension. The 7B04 aluminium alloy of which specimen shapes are forging and thick plate also showed SCC (Stress corrosion cracking) in the marine atmosphere. The higher SCC sensitivity was observed in Wanning station than in Tuandao station. The 7B04 aluminium alloy with a high stress level was more sensitive to SCC. Intergranular and transgranular or a mixed mode of cracking can be observed in different marine exposure.

  • The Zn-Al composite electroplating was studied by using chloride zinc bath containing metal hydroxides $(Zn(OH)_2,\;Al(OH)_3))$ and aluminium powder. The size of Al powder codeposited in the beaker bath with Al powder of-400 mesh was under 10${\mu}m$. The Zn-Al composite was electro-deposited at 40$^{\circ}C$ in the ranges of current density of 5-50 A/$dm^2$ in the flowing electrolyte. The content of aluminium particles codeposited increased slightly with increasing flow rate of electrolyte from 0.5 m/sec to 1.0 m/sec, and decreased with increasing current density from 5 A/$dm^2$ to 50 A/$dm^2$. The content of aluminium particles codeposited by using the electrolyte containing zinc hydroxide(0.1M) was 2~4 wt%. The Al powder was codeposited mainly near the surface layer of the electrodeposits. The dissolution rate of aluminium particles in the electrolyte containing 0.1M $Zn(OH)_2$ and Boric acid was 0.41 g/l. day in comparison with 1.5 g/l. day dissolution rate in pure chloride bath.

  • Reduced activation ferritic-martensitic steels (RAFM) are envisaged in future fusion technology as structural material which will be in direct contact with a flowing liquid lead-lithium melt, serving as breeder material. Aluminium-based coatings had proven their ability to protect the structural material from corrosion attack in flowing Pb-15.7Li and to reduce tritium permeation into the coolant, significantly. Coming from scales produced by hot dipping aluminization (HDA), the development of electrochemical-based processes to produce well-defined aluminium-based coatings on RAFM steels gained increased attention in research during the last years. Two different electrochemical processes are described in this paper: The first one, referred to as ECA, is based on the electrodeposition of aluminium from volatile, metal-organic electrolytes. The other process called ECX is based on ionic liquids. All three processes exhibit specific characteristics, for example in the field of processability, control of coating thicknesses (low activation criteria) and heat treatment behavior. The aim of this article is to compare these different coating processes critically, whereby the focus is on the comparison of ECA and ECX processes. New results for ECX will be presented and occurring development needs for the future will be discussed.
