  • Aluminum and boron co-doped zinc-oxide(AZOB) powders as transparent conducting oxide(TCO) were prepared by spray pyrolysis at $900^{\circ}C$. The micron-sized AZOB particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis from aqueous precursor solutions for aluminium, boron, and zinc. The micron-sized AZOB particle after the spray pyrloysis underwent post-heat treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and it was changed fully to nano-sized AZOB particle by ball milling for 24 hours. The size of primary AZOB particle by Debye-Scherrer Equation and surface resistance of AZOB pellet were measured.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare the shear bond strength between zirconia cores and veneer ceramics as per the sand blasting and liner treatments. Methods: The following 4 groups of zirconia-veneering ceramic specimens were prepared: (1) Group I, untreated; (2) Group II, with 110 ㎛ aluminium oxide (Al2O3) sandblasting; (3) Group III, with liner (IPS e.max ZirLiner; Ivoclar Vivadent); and (4) Group IV, with 110 ㎛ Al2O3 sand blasting and liner. Surface roughness was measured for all the prepared specimens, and the surface morphology was observed using a scanning electron microscope. All the samples (n=40) were fixed with measuring jigs, and shear bond strengths were obtained using a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The shear bond strength data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and t-test. The post hoc comparison was performed using the Tukey's test (α=0.05). Results: A significant difference in the surface roughness was observed between the specimens of groups I and II (p<0.05). Surface treatment with liner and sandblasting showed higher shear bond strength between zirconia core and veneering ceramic (p<0.05). Conclusion: The sand blasting and liner treatment increased the shear bond strength between zirconia core and veneering ceramic.

  • Aluminium doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al) thin film has emerged as one of the most promising transparent conducting electrode in flat panel displays(FPD) and in photovoltaic devices since it is inexpensive, mechanically stable, and highly resistant to deoxidation. In this paper ZnO:Al thin film was deposited on the polyethylene terephthalate(PET) substrate by the capacitively coupled r.f. magnetron sputtering method. Wide ranges of bias voltage, -30V${\sim}$45V, was applied to the growing films as an additional energy instead of substrate heating, and the effect of positive and negative bias on the film structure and electrical properties of ZnO:Al films was studied and discussed. The results showed that a bias applied to the substrate during sputtering contributed to the improvement of electrical properties of the film by attracting ions and electrons in the plasma to bombard the growing films. These bombardments provided additional energy to the growing ZnO film on the substrate, resulting in significant variations in film structure and electrical properties. The film deposited on the PET substrate at r. f. discharge power of 200 W showed the minimum resistivity of about $2.4{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}-cm$ and a transmittance of about 87%.

  • YAG phosphor powders were fabricated by the atmospheric plasma spraying method with the spray-dried spherical YAG precursor. The YAG precursor slurry for the spray drying process was prepared by the PVA solution chemical processing utilizing a domestic easy-sintered aluminum oxide (Al2O3) powder as a seed. The homogenous and viscous slurry resulted in dense granules, not hollow or porous particles. The synthesized phosphor powders demonstrated a stable YAG phase, and excellent fluorescence properties of approximately 115% compared with commercial YAG:Ce3+ powder. The microstructure of the phosphor powder had a perfect spherical shape and an average particle size of approx imately 30 ㎛. As a result of the PKG test of the YAG phosphor powder, the synthesized phosphor powders exhibited an outstanding luminous intensity, and a peak wavelength was observed at 531 nm.

  • Aluminium foil for electrolytic capacitors was anodized at the voltage of 100V and 140V for 10 minutes in ammonium adipate solution to form aluminum oxide layer on aluminum substrate as an dielectric film. The thickness, the stoichiometry and the crystal structure of the layer were investigated by using RBS and TEM . In addition EIS technique was employed to study the effects of addition of sulfuric acid on the increment of the foil surface area. It was found that the thickness values of the layers anodized at 100V and 140V were about 130 nm and 190 nm respectively and the stoichiometry of the elements of aluminum and oxygen was 2:3. The anodic oxide layer was shown to be amorphous. but the structure irradiated with electron beam resulted in the transformation into crystalline structure of $${\gamma}$-Al_2$$O_3$ . From a comparison of the impedance results and the capacitance variation to investigate the ef- fects of sulfuric acid addition to the etching bath of hydrochloric acid, the EIS techinque could be useful to analyze the capacitance variation.

  • Purpose: The success of the bonding between electroformed gold and ceramic is dependent on the surface treatment of the pure gold coping. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding strength between the electroformed gold and ceramic with varying surface treatment. Materials and methods: A total of 32 disks,8 were using conventional ceramometal alloy, 24 were using electroforming technique as recommended by manufacturer, were prepared. 24 electroformed disks were divided 3 groups according to surface treatment, i.e. 50 microns aluminium oxide sandblasting(GES-Sand), gold bonder treatment(GES-Bond) and $Rocatec^{TM}$ system(GES-Rocatec). For control group of conventional alloy 50 microns aluminium oxide treatment was done(V-Supragold). Energy dispersive x-ray analysis and scanning electron microscope image were observed. Using universal testing machine, shear bond strength and bonding failure mode at metal-porcelain interface were measured. Results and Conclusion: The following conclusions were drawn: 1. In the energy dispersive x-ray analysis, the Au was main component in electroformed gold(99.9wt%). After surface treatment, a little amount of $Al_2O_3(2.4wt%)$ were found in GES-Sand, and $SiO_2(4wt%)$ in GES-Bond. In GES-Rocatec, however, a large amount of $SiO_2(17.4wt%)$ were found. 2. In the scanning electron microscopy, similar pattern of surface irregu larities were observed in V-Supragold and GES-Sand. In GES-Bond, surface irregularities were increased and globular ceramic particles were observed. In GES-Rocatec, a large amount of silica particles attached to metal surface with increased surface irregularities were observed. 3. The mean shear bond strength values(MPa) in order were $22.9{\pm}3.7(V-Supragold),\;22.1{\pm}3.8(GES-Bond),\;20.1{\pm}2.8(GES-Rocatec)\;and\;13.0{\pm}1.4(GES-Sand)$. There was no significant difference between V-Supragold, GES-Bond, and GES-Rocatec. (P>0.05) 4. Most bonding failures modes were adhesive type in GES-Sand. However, in V-Supragold, GES-Bond and GES-Rocatec, cohesive and combination failures were commonly observed. From the result, with proper surface treatment method electroformed gold may have enough strength compare to conventional ceramometal alloy.

  • Composition which was used as a white smoke grenade consists of Aluminium(Al), Hexachloroethane(HCE) and Zinc Oxide(ZnO), etc. there is a possibility of misfire due to long term storage and there are very few reports on the mechanism behind misfire. In this study, an experimental method known as accelerated degradation testing is used to investigate the chemical mechanism resulting in misfire. The mechanism of chemical change during long term storage was analyzed with XRD and FT-IR. Analysis results suggest that a part of HCE consisting of the white smoke grenade disappeared and the other part was combined into $ZnCl_2$, $AlCl_3$, as a recycled intermediate product under closed system.

  • Organic electroluminescent devices have attracted a great deal of attention due to thier potential application to full-color flat-panel displays. The 8-hydroxyquinollne Zinc(Znq$_2$) were synthesized successfully from zinc chloride(ZnCl$_2$) and zinc acetate(Zn(C$_2$H$_3$O$_3$)$_2$) as green omitting material. A double-layer ELD consist of an emitting layer of B-hydroxyquinoline Zinc(Znq$_2$) and a hole-transport layer of tai-phenylene diamine(TPD) derivatives sandwiched between an Aluminium(Al) and Indium-Tin-Oxide(ITO) electrodes omitted green light resulting from Znq$_2$. The electroluminescent devices (ELD) exhibited a maximum luminance of 1000cd/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at a driving voltage of 8V and a driving current density of 0.4mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • Nowadays, Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (AM-OLEDs) are the superior display device due to their vivid full color, perfect video capability, light weight, low driving power, and potential flexibility. One of the advantages of AM-OLED over Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) lies in its flexibility. The potential flexibility of AM-OLED is not fully explored due to its sensitivity to moisture and oxygen which are readily present in atmosphere, and there are no flexible encapsulation layers available to protect these. Therefore, we come up with a new concept of Inorganic-Organic hybrid thin film as the encapsulation layer. Our Inorganic layer is Al2O3 and Organic layer is F-Alucone. We deposited these layers in vacuum state using Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and Molecular Layer Deposition (MLD) techniques. We found the results are comparable to commercial requirement of 10-6 g/m2 day for Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR). Using ALD and MLD, we can control the exact thin film thickness and fabricate more dense films than chemical or physical vapor deposition methods. Moreover, this hybrid encapsulation layer potentially has both the flexibility of organic layers and superior protection properties of inorganic layer.

  • Aluminum-pillared clay was prepared by the intercalation of Al-hydroxy oligomer into domestic bentonite. The solid products are characterized by XRD, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, EDX, and SEM. The solid products show relatively high specific surface areas in the range of $104{\sim}228m^2/g$, and their specific surface area, micropore surface area, and micropore volume increase with increasing the mole ratio of OH/Al. From the results of pore size distribution calculated by BJH equation, it was found that aluminum-pillared clay also contains much mesopore near $40{\AA}$. These results indicate that Al-hydroxy oligomer was intercalated into bentonite, and aluminum oxide was pillared among the layers of bentonite, and micropore and mesopore was finally developed into layers. As OH/Al mole ratio increases, the thermal stability of aluminum-pillared clay increases. This result can be explained by the fact that the density of layers is increased due to the formation of aluminum pillars.
