The Effect of Alumina Addition on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Plasma-Sparayed Ceria Based Electrolyte Coatings (알루미나 첨가가 플라즈마 용사된 세리아계 전해질체 코팅츠의 미세구조 및 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Alumina were added to ceria based ceramic powders upto 9.7 vol% and composite powders were sprayed by plasma spraying process in order to improve the mechanical properties such as hardness fracture tough-ness and thermal shock resistance. The ceria based coating sprayed without alumina has the typical colum-nar and lamellar structure. Alumina addition has lowered the amount of columnar and lamellar sturcture Added alumina was segreagated in the grain boundary and grain of ceria based crystal accompanied with pore. The maximum value of density and the minimum value of porosity were observed at the sprayed coating with 4.8 vol% alumina. The hardness fracture toughness and thermal shock resistance were increased with alumina addition. The improvement of mechanical properties of plasma sparyed ceria based coatings result-ed from the disapperance of the columnar and lamellar sturcture by addition of alumina.

  • Effect of particle size of alumina and amount of talc on tape casting and densification behaviors of alumina-talc system were investigated. The pseudoplastic behaviors of slurries increased with increase in amount of talc addition and decrease in alumina particle size. In case of using coarse alumina powder, densification of specimens were accelerated with increase of sintering temperature and amount of talc addition. On the contrary, fine alumina powder retarded of rearrangement of alumina particle during liquid phase sintering due to premature densification of alumina matrix region before formation of liquid phase and then densification of specimens were suppressed with increase of sintering temperature and amount of talc addition.

  • The $\alpha$-alumina/fused alumina/$\beta$"-alumina specimens were fabricated by addition of fused alumina to $\alpha$-alumina/$\beta$"-alumina system. The sintered densities with and without fused alumina were almost same. But, the bending strength was decreased due to the presense of defects caused by the inhomogeneous dispersion of large fused alumina particles. And the fracture toughness was also decreased because the crack propagated through the fused alumina particles due to the imperfection of $\beta$"-alumina coating around them.

  • Langasite, a new piezoelectric material was polished by CMP(chemical mechanical polishing). To enhance the polishing rate, alumina abrasives were added to commercial ILD1300 slurry which contains silica abrasive. The effect of added alumina 0 the silica slurry on the polishing rate and damage of langasite was investigated, Experimental results show that the polishing rate and roughness increases with increasing added alumina particle size, Crystallinity of the langasite is also lowered by alumina addition.

A Study on the Thermal Properties of Epoxy/Micro-Nano Alumina Composites, as Mixture of Surface Modified Nano Alumina (표면개질된 나노알루미나를 혼합한, 에폭시/마이크로-나노알루미나 콤포지트의 열적특성)

  • The aim of this study is to improve properties both glass transition temperature($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) using epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites with adding glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE:1,2,3,5g). This paper deals with the effects of GDE addition for epoxy/micro alumina contents (40, 50, 60wt%)+surface modified nano alumina(1_phr) composites. 20 kinds specimen were prepared with containing micro, nano alumina and GDE as a micro composites(10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70wt%) or a nano/micro alumina composites(1phr/40, 50, 60wt%). Average particle size of nano and micro alumina used were 30nm and $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$, respectively. The micro alumina used were alpha phase with Heterogeneous and nano alumina were gamma phase particles of spherical shape. The glass transition temperature and coefficients of thermal expansion was evaluated by DSC and TMA. The glass transition temperature decreased and coefficients of thermal expansion become smaller with filled contents of epoxy/micro alumina composites. On the other hand, $T_g$ and CTE as GDE addition variation(1,2,3,5g) of epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites decreased and increased respectively.

The AC Insulation Breakdown Properties of Epoxy/Multi-Alumina Composites for Adding Surface Modified Nano Alumina (표면처리된 나노알루미나가 첨가된 에폭시/멀티-알루미나 콤포지트의 교류절연파괴 특성)

  • The aim of this study is to improve of properties for electrical AC insulation breakdown strength using epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites with adding glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE:1,3,5g). This paper deals with the effects of GDE addition for epoxy/micro alumina contents (40,50,60wt%)+surface modified nano alumina(1_phr) composites. 14 kinds specimen were prepared with containing epoxy resins, epoxy micro composites and epoxy nano-micro alumina mixture composites. Average particle size of nano and micro alumina used were 30nm and $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$, respectively. The micro alumina used were alpha phase with Heterogeneous and nano alumina were gamma phase particles of spherical shape. The electrical AC insulation breakdown strength was evaluated by sphere to sphere electrode system and raising velocity 1kV/s. The AC breakdown strength decreased insulation properties of multi-composites according to increasing micro alumina and GDE addition contents.

  • Densification behavior and microstructural evolution during the liquid-phase sintering of alumina-anorhite system were investigated as a function of MgO addition. When MgO component was added in either alumina or anorthite glass powder the aspect ratio of alumina grains decreased and concurrently the are of flat interface which was formed as a result of contact solid alumina gains rather increased. Consequently addition of MgO component in the Al2O3-amorthite system brought about suppression of the rearrangement of solid grains during the liquid phase sintering and then densification of specimens was also retarded.

  • The aim of this study is to improve of dielectric properties using epoxy/nano alumina composites with adding glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE:1,2 g). This paper deals with the effects of dielectric properties(${\epsilon}^{\prime}_r$ and $tan{\delta}$) for epoxy/nano alumina contents (1,3 phr) and GDE addition (1,2 g)composites. 5 kinds specimen were prepared with containing epoxy resins, epoxy nano alumina composites. Average particle size of nano used were 30 nm. The nano alumina used were gamma phase particles of spherical shape. The suppression of epoxy chain motion by addition of nano alumina+GDE decreased dielectric loss and relative permittivity magnitude.

Sintering Behavior of Bimodal Size-Distributed Alumina Powder Mixtures (이중분포를 갖는 알루미나 혼합분체의 소결겨동)

  • Densification and grain growth behavior of bimodal size distributed alumina powder mixtures were investigated as a function of amount of coarse alumina powder. The specimens which contained coarse alumina powder for 60to 80wt% showed the highest green density. The amount of shrinkage of sintered specimen lineraly decreased with the increase of coarse alumina powder up to the content that showed the highest green density and then further addition of coarse alumina powder led to drastic decrease of shrinkage of specimen. Especially crack-like void were concurrently revealed in the sintered body with addition of coarse alumina powder above 60wt% When the sintering temperature increased up to 1650$^{\circ}C$ the amount of shrinkage of specimen linearly decreased and the grain growth were also retarded with increase of coarse lauminia powder.

  • The effect of La and Si addition of the thermal stabilization of $\gamma-alumina$ powers have been studied. Reagent grade $La(NO_3)_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ and $Si(OC_2H_5)_4$ were used as starting materials. These additives were introduced by wet impregnation method. Both La and Si additives suppressed the sintering of alumina and were found to be good thermal stabilizers of $\gamma-alumina$. Especially, Si drastically suppressed the phase transition of alumina at high temperatures. The major mechanisms for the thermal stabilization of alumina were seemed to be new phase formation and retardation of surface diffusion by addition of La or Si into alumina matrix.
