  • The study is a Post-Occupancy-Evaluation on newly constructed steel framed school buildings sponsored by POSCO, and presents alternative tactics for planning and programming for the kind of project. The schools in concern are Seowha Primary School(Incheon city) and Galma Primary School(Daejeon city) which were completed in February 1999 and since occupied. The POE-2000 study results had to be compared to the POE-1999 which dealt on Jigog Primary School(Pohang city) and Iwol Primary School(Jincheon township) to develop an improved project tactics. In this reason we had to use the same questionnaire forms envisaged by the former study, ie. POE-1999. To begin with the same study format, it might be appropriate to differentiate whether a 'satisfaction' comes from the 'steel framed construction' or from the 'newly built environment'. However it was difficult with the POE-1999. As the intention to compare the 4 school building were the firstly achieved objective of this study that we had to continue to apply the same format and the analysis procedure. Except this condition, everything the POE-1999 conducted were valuable to this POE-2000. The satisfaction survey form includes 36 questions for individual items and 2 questions for general items.

  • Mathematics assessment doesn't mean examining in the traditional sense of written examination. Mathematics assessment has to give the various information of grade and development of students as well as teaching of teachers. To achieve this purpose of assessment, we have to search the methods of assessment. This paper is aimed to develop the open-ended problems that are the alternative to traditional test, apply them to classroom and analyze the result of assessment. 4-types open-ended problems are developed by criteria of development. It is open process problem, open result problem, problem posing problem, open decision problem. 6 grade elementary students who are picked in 2 schools participated in assessment using open-ended problems. Scoring depends on the fluency, flexibility, originality The result are as follows; The rate of fluency is 2.14, The rate of flexibility is 1.30, and The rate of originality is 0.11 Furthermore, the rate of originality is very low. Problem posing problem is the highest in the flexibility and open result problem is the highest in the flexibility. Between general mathematical problem solving ability and fluency, flexibility have the positive correlation. And Pearson correlational coefficient of between general mathematical problem solving ability and fluency is 0.437 and that of between general mathematical problem solving ability and flexibility is 0.573. So I conclude that open ended problems are useful and effective in mathematics assessment.

  • I examine the discussions of studies related to feminist mathematics education and the implications of mathematics education in South Korea. In particular, I attempt to answer the following questions through literature reviews on feminist mathematics: What is the epistemological background of feminist mathematics education? How is feminist mathematics education defined and implemented? What does feminist mathematics education suggest in South Korea's mathematics curriculum? From the analysis of the literatures, I found that feminist mathematics education reflects not just the rights of female's rights but also a paradigm shift in epistemology of mathematics and philosophy of mathematics education. In this regard, feminist mathematics questions the existing mathematics education related to the female students who were marginalized in the composition and delivery of mathematics. Feminist mathematics education points out that in the course of the transfer of mathematical knowledge in schools, female students understand unilateral information procedurally without understanding the concept. Mathematics educators should consider alternative curricula that reflect the views of female students regarding the nature of mathematics. Students should be able to receive equal mathematics education in a school regardless of their gender. In this case, equal mathematics education refers to education methods that are suitable for both male and female students. The existing mathematics content and its teaching methods were designed based on the learning experiences of male students, which made them relatively difficult for female students to understand.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify variables influencing the psychosocial adjustment of North Korean adolescent refugees in order to establish a structural equation model and design an intervention strategy to improve psychosocial adjustment. Methods: The subjects included 290 North Korean adolescent refugees aged 16~24 years who were enrolled in alternative schools or regional adaptation centers. They were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. Results: The goodness of fit measures of the model were as follows: $x^2=131.20$ (p<.001), GFI=.93, CFI=.91, TLI=.86, RMSEA=.08, and SRMR=.07. The results estimated from the structural equation model indicated a good fit of data to the hypothesized model, which proposed that stress and emotional intelligence are associated with psychosocial adjustment. The major variables influencing psychosocial adjustment were stress, emotional intelligence, which was a significant direct effect, whereas attitude of parenting showed an indirect effect on psychosocial adjustment through emotional intelligence. These variables account for 50.0% of psychosocial adjustment. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a program and intervention plan that can enhance emotional intelligence and thereby relieve the stress of North Korean adolescent refugees. The program should also include parenting education so that parents have positive attitude of parenting.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a Puzzle-Based Computer Science Instruction Model and Learning Program and to confirm the effects. To do so, we selected 2 classes with a similar level of pre-computational thinking in elementary schools in the Jeju Province. After that, from 2 classes, we designated the 5th grade students in 'D' elementary school as group A and designated students of the same grade in 'J' elementary school as group B. In a total of 28 sessions during an 18 week period, a Puzzle-Based Computer Science Learning Program was used with 31 students in group A, and the traditional computer science course was used with 25 students in group B. The results showed that there were significant improvements in computational thinking, which is computational cognition and its creativity, of the students in group A compared to students in group B. Also, this study proved that the Puzzle-Based program correlated with positive changes group A students' Science-Related Affective Domain. In this paper, on the basis of proven effectiveness, we introduce the Puzzle-Based Computer Science Instruction Model and Learning Program as an alternative to traditional, computer science education.

  • Prepurchase decision making process was investigated for the female high school students grouped by fashion leadership. Differences in the fashion leadership were also investigated among the groups determined by demographic characteristics. Data were obtained from 600 female students attending at 4 different high schools in Seoul by self-administered questionnaires, and 430 were used for the data analysis. Respondents were divided into 5 groups by fashion leadership: innovators(6.3%), early adopters(29.8%) , early majority(43.7%) , late majority(16.9%) , laggards(3.3%) , The groups with higher monthly allowances and monthly clothing expenditures showed higher fashion leadership. At the problem recognition stage, students with higher fashion leadership felt buying needs more often than those with lower fashion leadership. At the information search stage, students with higher fashion leadership tended to use higher number of information sources and mass media, visited stores more often, spent more time and collected new information more often, and tended to show higher satisfaction levels with searched information than students with lower fashion leadership. Leaders tended to search information at bonded goods stores and small shops in the area, and laggards prefered to visit small stores in the market. At the alternative evaluation stage, students with higher fashion leadership reported to use higher number of evaluative criteria and consider brand name, acknowledgment of others, becomingness with wardrobe as important criteria for evaluating apparel products; those with lower fashion leadership thought utility, comfort, size, sewing quality an6 fit as key criteria.

  • Modern society has become an aging society, and the National Statistics Office(NSO) expects that Korea will be also an aging society by 2019, that is, people over the age of 65 will account for 14 percent from the total population. In addition, the increase of labor flexibility is also one of the dramatic features in modern society. However, this social shift have unpredictable results, that is, the advent and increase of grandparent and grandchildren family. Modern medical technology has given Koreans longer expectancies, and structural and economic changes in society have brought early retirement. One of the main reasons that grandparent and grandchildren family increase is below an average of two children per family. There are various services available such as Health support center, Dream start center, Youth support center, Community child center, and Community welfare center. Besides, schools operates various programs for grandparent and grandchildren family with social workers and school counselors. But, most of all, what is necessary is a change of perspective on them. Basically, we need to develop a clear perspective on grandparent and grandchildren family as a not dismantling family type but alternative family type with creating a separate program or service

  • This research has an intention of developing a professional development program. We proposed an alternative mathematics teacher training model based on the situated learning theory, community of practice, and reflective practitioner. The developed mathematics teacher professional development program recruited participation unit that was consisted of 3 or 4 teachers in same school and total of 28 teachers from 9 schools. Also, there were 18 mentors to support each school. In this sense, it can be called multi-tired teacher community professional development program. Through the program, the teachers improve their teaching competency. Also, the operation ability of teacher learning community was improved. Learning community culture has been formed in each school. It shows ability that the explorative learning community can be operated voluntarily although the program finished. Furthermore, community shared corporate responsibility about open class. They recognize open class as a new method to improve community teaching ability than a tool to evaluate individual teaching ability.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop and examine the effects of a psychosocial adaptation program for North Korean adolescent defectors. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted with 28 North Korean adolescent defectors who were recruited through alternative schools. The experimental and control groups consisted of 14 participants each. A program was conducted across eight sessions, each lasting about 90-120 minutes. The data were analyzed using the x2 test, t-test, paired t-test, and analysis of covariance. Results: No significant differences were observed in the score changes for psychosocial adaptation (t=0.25, p=.808), post-traumatic stress symptoms (t=0.32, p=.749), cultural adaptation stress (t=0.05, p=.957), and self-efficacy (t=0.35, p=.726) in either group before and after the intervention. No intergroup differences were observed for psychosocial adaptation (t=0.12, p=.902), post-traumatic stress symptoms (t=0.07, p=.946), cultural adaptation stress (t=0.01, p=.994), and self-efficacy (t=0.58, p=.570). Conclusion: These findings suggest that psychosocial adaptation, stress, and self-efficacy cannot be improved by a short-term intervention program alone. It was also determined that the cultural characteristics of the North Korean adolescent defectors were not sufficiently considered before implementing the program. Therefore, it is essential to provide an in-depth orientation for the participants before implementing the program.

  • Purpose: The concept of the Barrier-Free Design has steadily expanded into a basic principle of design, which can provide safe and convenient lives not only limited to the disables, elders, and pregnant women, but also to all members of the society. This is what we now know as the Universal Design. In other words, Barrier-Free Design for all is Architectural Approach of Universal Design. Thus, as a future-oriented alternative to school facilities according to social change, this study suggests basic direction of school building planning and concept of universal design considering school facilities characteristics. Methods: The characteristics of school facilities are understood from the perspective of Universal Design. In addition, a survey is conducted to identify the current state of school facilities. Result: Findings from this study are as follows. First, Universal Design of School Building is an integrated characteristic. Integration is intended to create and manage an integrated environment instead of an individual and one-time approach to installation and maintenance of convenience facilities. Second, It is a flexible characteristic to be sustainable. In other words, they aim to be selectable to respond to change. Third, It is a characteristic of accumulation of outstanding cases. This means that not only individual schools but also entire school spaces will be applied to Universal Design to form a virtuous circle of environment improvement. Implications: The results of this study may serve as a basic concept in the design of school buildings.
