  • In the IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN standard specifies the air interface of fixed point-to-multipoint broadband wireless access systems providing multiple services. Among the service classes supported between the base station and subscriber stations in the wireless MAN, the best effort service class is ranked on the lowest position in priority and is assisted by a MAC scheme based on reservation ALOHA. The wireless MAN standard, however, does not reveal every detail of the MAC scheme but only describes the skeleton of the MAC scheme. Focusing on the amount of resource that a subscriber demands by a request and the amount of resource that the base grants to a request we thus present a number of resource demand rules and resource grant rules. Also, we construct a candidate MAC scheme by implanting a pair of resource demand and grant rules into the skeleton of the MAC scheme. Meanwhile a difficult situation for the best effort service is expected wherein only scarce resource is available after most of the resource is already preempted by other services. Perceiving such a situation, we evaluate the throughput and delay performance of each candidate MAC scheme. Especially we develop an analytical method to approximately calculate the throughput in the saturated environment. From the numerical results, we observe that the candidate MAC scheme which adopts the non-gated exhaustive demand rule paired with the full grant rule attains superior performance at the expense of the fairness.

  • The voice traffic is one of the most important real-time objects in WATM(Wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks. In this paper, we propose a new MAC(Medium Access'Control) protocol for the efficienttransmission of voice traffic over WATM networks in the multimedia environment and compare the performanceto existing similar protocols. The new protocol separates the reservation slot period for voice and that for data toguarantee some level of QoS(Quality of Service) in voice traffic. This is denoted by a slot assignment functiondepending on the frame size. According to the characteristics of voice traffic which is repeatedly in silent states, the protocol allocates voice reservation request slots dynamically with respect to the number of silent(off state)voice sources and also sends the first block of talkspurt restarted after silent period with a reservation requestslot to reduce the access delay. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance than Slotted Aloha in bandwidthefficiency, and can serve a certain level of QoS by the given slot assignment function even when the number ofvoice terminals varies dynamically. This means we can observe that the new MAC protocol is much better thanthe NC-PRMA(None Collision-Packet Reservation Multiple Access) protocol.

  • Underwater wireless network can be useful in various fields such as underwater environment observation, catastrophe prevention, ocean resources exploration, ocean organism research, and vessel sinking exploration. We need to develop an efficient design for Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol to improve multiple data communication in underwater environment. Aloha protocol is one of the basic and simple protocols, but it has disadvantage such as collision occurs oftenly in communication. If there is collision occured in RF communication, problem can be solved by re-sending the data, but using low frequency in underwater, the re-transmission has difficulties due to slow bit-rate. So, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) based MAC protocol is going to be used to avoid collisions, but if there is no data to send in existing TDMA, time slot should not be used. Therefore, this paper proposes dynamic TDMA protocol mechanism with reducing the time slots by sending short "I Have No Data" (IHND) message, if there is no data to transmit. Also, this paper presents mathematic analysis model in relation to data throughput, channel efficiency and verifies performance superiority by comparing the existing TDMA protocols.

  • Gu-mi hydrogen fluoride leak accident in 2012 was amplified social anxiety for chemical accidents. To relieve these anxieties Off-site Risk Assessment was introduced in 2015. Off-site Risk Assessment is targeted at most chemicals, and most of the high-pressure-toxic gases which are mainly used in high-tech industries such as semi conductor, display, Photovoltaic panels industry are included in the substance of the Off-site Risk Assessment. Since Korean companies occupy a high market share in high-tech industries, high pressure-toxic domestic gas consumption is constantly increasing. Accordingly, it is expected to increase the possibility of accidents. In accordance with the circumstances, this study was to conducted Consequence Analysis(CA) about high pressure-toxic gases those are high demand in domestic. CA was used for ALOHA developed by US EPA & US NOAA and the CA result of Arsine was the largest at 4,700 m. CA results are expected to be utilized for determining the effective Safety distances when high pressure-toxic gas leak.

  • In this paper, we propose an improved anti-collision algorithm. We have designed an anti-collision unit using this algorithm for the 18000-6 Type C Class 1 Generation 2 standard (Gen2). The Gen2 standard uses a Q-algorithm for incremental method on the Dynamic Slot-Aloha algorithm. It has basically enhanced performance over the Slot-Aloha algorithm. Unfortunately, there are several non-clarified parts: initial $Q_{fp}$ value, weighted C, and the ending point of the algorithm. If an incorrect value is selected, it causes degradation in performance. Thus we propose an improved anti-collision algorithm by clearly defining the vague parts of the existing algorithm. Simulation results showed an improved performance of up to 34.8% using an optimized value of C and the initial $Q_{fp}$ value. With the ending condition, performance is 34.7%. The anti-collision unit is designed using the Verilog HDL. The module was synthesized using Synopsys' Design Compiler and the TSMC $0.2{\mu}m$ standard cell library. The synthesized result yielded 3,847 gates, and was guaranteed under the proposed working frequency of 19.2MHz.

  • Cellular automata have been applied to simulations in many fields such as astrophysics, social phenomena, fire spread, and evacuation. Using cellular automata, this study develops a model for consequence analysis of the dispersion of hazardous chemicals, which is required for risk assessments of and emergency responses for frequent chemical accidents. Unlike in cases of detailed plant safety design, real-time accident responses require fast and iterative calculations to reduce the uncertainty of the distribution of damage within the affected area. EPA ALOHA and KORA of National Institute of Chemical Safety have been popular choices for these analyses. However, this study proposes an initiative to supplement the model and code continuously and is different in its development of free software, specialized for small and medium enterprises. Compared to the full-scale computational fluid dynamics (CFD), which requires large amounts of computation time, the relative accuracy loss is compromised, and the convenience of the general user is improved. Using Python open-source libraries as well as meteorological information linkage, it is made possible to expand and update the functions continuously. Users can easily obtain the results by simply inputting the layout of the plant and the materials used. Accuracy is verified against full-scale CFD simulations, and it will be distributed as open source software, supporting GPU-accelerated computing for fast computation.

  • This study focuses on modeling the impact of ammonia leakage from the storage tank in a combined cycle power plant's flue gas denitrification facility. It employs accident impact assessments and diffusion models to determine the optimal scenarios for ammonia storage tank leakage accidents. The study considers the operating conditions of variables as standard conditions for predicting the extent of damage. The Taean combined cycle power plant is chosen as the target area, taking into account seasonal factors such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, atmospheric stability, and wind direction. By utilizing a Gaussian diffusion model, the concentration of ammonia gas at various locations is estimated to assess the potential extent of external damage resulting from a leak. The study reveals that in conditions of high temperature and stable atmosphere within the specified range, lower wind speeds contribute to increased damage to the human body due to ammonia diffusion.

  • An RFID network is a network in which a reader inquire about the identities of tags and tags respond with their identities to a reader. The diversity of RFID networks has brought about many applications including an inexpensive system where a single reader supports a small number of tags. Such a system needs a tag cognizance scheme that is able to arbitrate among contending tags as well as is simple enough. In this paper, confining our attention to a clan of simple schemes, we propose a randomized scheme with aiming at enhancing the tag cognizance rate than a conventional scheme. Then, we derive an exact expression for the cognizance rate attained by the randomized scheme. Unfortunately, the exact expression is not so tractable as to optimize the randomized scheme. As an alternative way, we develop an upper bound on the tag cognizance rate. In a closed form, we then obtain a nearly optimal value for a key design parameter, which maximizes the upper bound. Numerical examples confirm that the randomized scheme is able to dominate the conventional scheme in cognizance rate by employing a nearly optimal value. Furthermore, they reveal that the randomized scheme is robust to the fallacy that the reader believes or guesses a wrong number of neighboring tags.

  • DOCSIS 3.0 Protocol is proposed to make the advance of HFC network. In the DOCSIS based network, the upstream frame is divided into contention section reservation section. CMs to have packets send request messages through the contention section. That two or more CMs sends Request message at the same contention slot makes collison. In this paper, are propose the contention section establlish at algorithm considering of channel-bonding mechanism that is the primary technique of DOCSIS 3.0. Results of simulation display better performance int the number of contention slots and the utilization of contention section.
