  • The thermomechanical behaviors of the shape memory alloy were conducted through the finite element analysis of ABAQUS with UMAT user subroutine. The unified thermomechanical constitutive equation suggested by Lagoudas was adapted into the UMAT user subroutine to investigate the characteristics of the shape memory alloy. The three cases were solved to investigate the thermomechanical characteristics of the shape memory alloy. The material properties for the analysis were obtained by DSC and DMA techniques. According to the results, the thermomechanical characteristics, such as a shape memory effect and a pseudoelastic effect, could be obtained through the finite element analysis and the analysis results were revealed to agree well with the experimental results. Therefore, the finite element analysis using UMAT user subroutine is one of prominent analysis techniques to investigate the thermomechnical behaviors of the shape memory alloy quantitatively.

  • Densification behavior of titanium alloy powder was investigated under hot pressing at various pressures and temperatures. Experimental date were obtained for densification of titanium alloy powder under an instantaneous loading and subsequent creep deformation during hot pressing. The constitutive models of Fleck et al. and the modified Gurson were employed for thermo-phastic deformation under the instantaneous loading and that f Abouaf and co-workers for creep deformation of titanium alloy powder during hot pressing. By implementing these constitutive equations into a finite element program(ABAQUS), finite element results were compared with experimental data during hot pressing. To investigate the effect of friction between the power and die wall, density distributions of power compacts were measured and compared with finite element calculations. Finite element results from the models of Fleck et al. and the modified Gurson agreed reasonably good with experimental data for densification and density distribution of titanium alloy powder under the instantaneous loading during hot pressing. Finite element results from the model of Abouaf and co-workers, however, somewhat overestimate experimental data for creep deformation of power compacts during hot pressing.

  • This paper aims to examine baes metal alloy in all its aspects - the roles of elements, the content of every element according to uses, characters, laboratory technique methods and the kind of artificial base metal alloy registered in A.D.A. Specification. The results are as follows; 1. Base metal alloy is used widely bacaues it is rather cheap, but it should be handled appropriately in operating because its quality is bad. 2. Classifying base metal alloy, it is classified into Co-Cr alloy, Ni-Cr alloy, and Ni-Cr-Co alloy according to element, it is classified into partial denture alloy, surgical alloy and crown & bridge alloy according to use. 3. Among elements of base metal alloy, Bellium lowers the melting point of the alloy and increases the strength, but the amount should be limited when it is used because it destroys the organization of a living body. 4. The investments for base metal alloy are ethyl silcate bonded investment and phosphate bonded investment which endure well at high burn out temperature. 5. A.D.A specification No.14 in Kore contains Niranium, Nobilium, regalloy, Ticonium and Vitallium.

  • This paper is concerned with forming of Al-Zn-Mg-Sc aluminum alloy bolts, focusing on the effects of heat treatment and age-hardening on the formability and ductile damage evolution. Both experimental and finite element studies were performed. From the experiments, it is observed that the heat treatment or the normalization of Al-Zn-Mg-Sc aluminum alloy increases its formability dramatically resulting in successful bolt forming, while the effects of age-hardening at room temperature on the stress-strain relationship and formability are not very critical. Deformation characteristics such as distribution of effective stress and strain, material flow, and ductile damage evolution during bolt forming are examined using a commercial finite element package, Deform-2D. It should be noted that the extrusion load predicted by the finite element method matches well the experiment results. The finite element predictions on the deformation characteristics support the experimental observations such as fracture of bolt head flange, material flow, and distribution of hardness.

  • An experimental is carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for nickel alloy Alloy42 (t=0.203mm), a kind of IC lead frame material. By varying clearance between die and punch the shapes of shear profile are examined. Finite element analysis with element deletion algorithm for ductile fracture mode is also carried out to study the effect of clearance theoretically and to compare with experimental results. The rectangular shape specimen with four different comer radius is used to study the characteristics of blanking for straight side and comer region simultaneously. As the result the ratios measured k(m experiment of roll over, burnish and fracture zone based on initial blank thickness are compared with those of FE analysis. Both experiment and FE analysis show that the amount of mil over and fracture is increased as the clearance increases. When the radius of comer is less than thickness of blank it has been found that larger clearance is required than that of straight region in order to maintain same quality of shear profile at the comer region.

  • The characteristic of magnesium alloy is the most light in utility metal, the effect of electromagnetic wave interception, excellent specific strength and absorptiveness of vibration. Although magnesium alloy with above characteristic is a subject matter which is suitable in world-wide tendency of electrical component frame, sheet magnesium alloy is difficult to process. Therefore, forming analysis of sheet magnesium alloy and applying warm-working to process are indispensable. Among Finite element method, the static implicit finite element method is applied effectively to analyze sheet magnesium alloy stamping process, which include the forming stage. In this study, it was focused on the crack, wrinkling and spring back on sheet magnesium alloy stamping by the static implicit analysis. According to this study, the result of simulation will give engineers good information to access the forming technique on sheet magnesium alloy. And its application is being increased especially in the production of electrical component frame for the cost reduction, saving of defective ratio, and improvement of Productivity.

  • The aim of this study was to predict the results of superplastic forming on magnesium alloy, by considering the grain growth using numerical simulations. Superplastic behavior of AZ31 alloy was investigated through a set of uniaxial tensile tests that cover the forming temperatures ranges from 375 to $450^{\circ}C$. All the material parameters in the model, which consists of a constitutive equation and a grain growth equation, were determined. The model was used in the finite element analysis for uniaxial tensile tests and superplastic blow forming, through a user-subroutine available within ABAQUS. From this study, the effect of grain growth during forming was evaluated. The results show that it is essential to include the effect of grain growth in predicting the behavior during superplastic forming of this magnesium alloy.

  • Recrystallization behavior during ingot-breakdown process of Alloy 718 was investigated with finite element analysis and experimental approaches. In order to analyze microstructural changes during the cogging process of an Alloy 718 ingot, the side-pressing and heat treatment tests were performed at different temperatures and ram speed. From the side-pressing and heat treatment test results, it was found that microstructural changes during hot forging of Alloy 718 ingot greatly influenced on a close interaction between dynamic and static-recrystallization behaviors. A recrystallization model of Alloy 718 was used to predict the complex microstructural variation during continuous heating and forging processes of the cogging, and the predicted grain size and its distribution were compared with the actual cogged Alloy 718 billet.

  • Magnesium alloys are expected to be widely used fur the parts of structural and electronic appliances due to their lightweight and EMI shielding characteristics. While the die casting has been mainly used to manufacture the parts from the magnesium alloys, the press forming is considered as an alternative to the die casting for saving the manufacturing cost and improving the structural strength of the magnesium alloy parts. However, the magnesium alloy has low formability at room temperature and therefore, in many cases, forming at elevated temperatures is necessary to obtain the required material flow without failure. In the present study, square cup deep drawing tests using the magnesium alloy AZ31 sheet were experimentally conducted at various elevated temperatures as well as room temperature, and the corresponding finite-element simulations, which calculated the damage evolution based on the Oyane's criterion, were conducted using the stress-strain relations from the tensile tests at various temperatures. The formability predictability by the finite-element analysis was investigated by comparing the predicted damage distributions over the deformed AZ31 sheet at elevated temperatures with the corresponding experimental deformations with failures.
