As the height of the light-framed building increases, the lateral load and overturn-moment are increased and the possibility of the building overturn becomes larger. Because the shear wall resists lateral load in light-framed building, the reinforcement of shear wall is required. In order to reinforce the light-framed shear wall, using lag screw fastener type (B-HD) and using bolt type (S-HD) hold-down connectors were applied for test. And domestic larch lumbers, $38{\times}140mm$ and $89{\times}140mm$, KS 2nd grade, were used for the stud. The North American OSB panels were used for sheathing panel. Static loads, load speed 6 mm/min, were applied on top of the wall. As a result, shear strength of the wall that using hold-down connector was improved sufficiently. And when applying the S-HD type hold-down connector, stud should be reinforced against weakening by drilled hole. As increasing the number of lag screw, the number of bolt and the product allowable strength, the strength of shear wall that using hold-down connector was also increased. When applying hold-down connector to light-framed building using 38 mm stud, it must be reinforced by enlarging the thickness of stud like as 38 mm doubled column.

As interest increases related to the development of eco-friendly energy, the offshore wind turbine market is growing at an increasing rate every year. In line with this, the demand for an installation vessel with large scaled capacity is also increasing rapidly. The wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) is a fixed penetration of the spudcan in the sea-bed to install the wind turbine. At this time, a review of the spudcan is an important issue regarding structural safety in the entire structure system. In the study, we analyzed the current procedure suggested by classification of societies and new procedures reflect the new loading scenarios based on reasonable operating conditions; which is also verified through FE-analysis. The current procedure shows that the maximum stress is less than the allowable criteria because it does not consider the effect of the sea-bed slope, the leg bending moment, and the spudcan shape. However, results of some load conditions as defined by the new procedure confirm that it is necessary to reinforce the structure to required levels under actual pre-load conditions. Therefore, the new procedure considers additional actual operating conditions and the possible problems were verified through detailed FE-analysis.

Industrial and environmental facilities, which are national growth engine, must sustain their structural safety and maintain their process to continue production activities under various load conditions including natural hazards. In this study, by improving existing design codes which aim to secure the structural safety only, new structural and seismic design codes are proposed to secure both the structural safety and the operability of facilities. In the proposed structural design code, a variety of loads to reflect the characteristics of industrial and environmental facilities are considered and load combinations for the ultimate strength design and the allowable stress design of structures are suggested. Considering the importance of a unit industrial facility and that of a unit process, the seismic design class, design earthquake, and seismic performance level of a unit component are determined to achieve the dual seismic performance objectives for securing both the structural safety and the operability. Also, the proposed design code are applied to an example of an environmental facility in order to examine its applicability.

A parametric numerical analysis according to diameter, length, and N values of soil was conducted for the PHC pile socketed into weathered rock through sandy soil layers. In the numerical analysis, the Mohr-Coulomb model was applied to PHC pile and soils, and the contacted phases among the pile-soil-cement paste were modeled as interfaces with a virtual thickness. The parametric numerical analyses for 10 kinds of pile diameters were executed to obtain the load-settlement relationship and the axial load distribution according to N-values. The load-settlement curves were obtained for each load such as total load, total skin friction, skin friction of the sandy soil layer, skin friction of the weathered rock layer and end bearing resistance of the weathered rock. As a result of analysis of various load levels from the load-settlement curves, the settlements corresponding to the inflection point of each curve were appeared as about 5~7% of each pile diameter and were estimated conservatively as 5% of each pile diameter. The load at the inflection point was defined as the mobilized bearing capacity ($Q_m$) and it was used in analyses of pile bearing capacity. And SRF was appeared above average 70%, irrespective of diameter, embedment length of pile and N value of sandy soil layer. Also, skin frictional resistance of sandy soil layers was evaluated above average 80% of total skin frictional resistance. These results can be used in calculating the bearing capacity of prebored PHC pile, and also be utilized in developing the bearing capacity prediction method and chart for the prebored PHC pile socketed into weathered rock through sandy soil layers.
Design chart solution and table solution were proposed by Choi et al. (2019a), which conducted a parametric numerical study for the bored PHC piles socketed into weathered rocks through sandy soil layers. Based on the Choi et al. (2019a), the new prediction formulae for mobilized capacity components such as total capacity, total skin friction and skin friction of sand at the settlement of 5% pile diameter were proposed in this study. The proposed prediction formulae (EQ-G1) considers pile diameter, relative embedment length and ${\bar{N}}$ (i.e, corrected N) value and their verification results are as follows. The SRF calculated from the new proposed design method was 71~94%, which are greatly improved compared with results by the existing design method. The design efficiency of bearing capacity was in the range of reasonable design except 4 cases, and the design efficiency of the PHC pile was evaluated as 85%. Therefore, it is possible that allowable compressive load (Pall) of PHC pile can be utilized in the resonable design by means of the new proposed method using EQ-G1 equations. And the other new proposed equations of EQ-G2-3 can be utilized approximately in calculation of axial compressive bearing capacity components for prebored PHC pile.

The role of a track subgrade is to provide bearing capacity and distribute load transferred to lower foundation soils. Track subgrade soils are usually compacted by heavy mechanical machines in the field, such that sometimes they are attributed to progressive residual settlement during the service after construction completion of the railway track. The progressive residual settlement generated in the upper part of a track subgrade is mostly non-recoverable plastic deformation, which causes unstable conditions such as track irregularity. Nonetheless, up to now no design code for allowable residual settlement of subgrade in a railway trackbed has been proposed based on mechanical testing, such as repetitive triaxial testing. At this time, to check the DOC or stiffness of the soil, field test criteria for compacted track subgrade are composed of data from RPBT and field compaction testing. However, the field test criteria do not provide critical design values obtained from mechanical test results that can offer correct information about allowable permanent deformation. In this study, a test procedure is proposed for permanent deformation of compacted subgrade soil that is used usually in railway trackbed in the laboratory using repetitive triaxial testing. To develop the test procedure, an FEA was performed to obtain the shear stress ratio (${\tau}/{\tau}_f$) and the confining stress (${\sigma}_3$) on the top of the subgrade. Comprehensive repetitive triaxial tests were performed using the proposed test procedure on several field subgrade soils obtained in construction sites of railway trackbeds. A permanent deformation model was proposed using the test results for the railway track.

Currently NATM tunnels are designed by applying the initial ground loads caused during construction to the primary supports, conisting of shotcrete, steel ribs and rock bolts. For long term considerations, it is assumed that the primary supports lose its functionality and therefore the secondary support, i.e. concrete lining, is design to resist against the entire ground loads. But the steel ribs, usually applied to bad ground conditions, are embedded in shotcrete causing very little corrosion and therefore the assumption that the primary support will lose all of its functionality is too conservative. Also even though shotcrete carbonates in long term, excluding it from design is also too conservative. In this study, we have, through analytical and numerical analysis, set a rational level of support pressure and allowable relaxed rock mass height sustainable by the primary support for long term design. Changes in sectional forces of the concrete lining considering the calculated support pressure of the primary supports was also carried out. Shallow subway tunnels were considered in the analysis with weathered rock and soft rock ground conditions. The analysis results showed that, by considering the support pressure of steel ribs, an economical design of the concrete lining is possible.

High voltage electric power transmitter GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) above 72.5kV needs to satisfy domestic Korean peninsular standard(ES-6110-0002) in KEPCO with respect to normal and special operation conditions which include internal gas pressure, dead weight, wind and seismic load. Some other requirements not described in Korean standard can be applied from other international standards such as IEC(International Electronical Committee) 62271-203 and 62271-207. The GIS is a kind of pressure vessel structure made of aluminum and filled with SF6 gas of internal pressure 0.4~0.5MPa. Finite element analysis of GIS is performed with such operational loads including seismic loading and the stability and reliability is determined according to ASME BPVC(Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code) SEC. VIII standard where the allowable stress level of the pressure vessel is suggested. The result shows that the stress of GIS is satisfied the allowable stress level and the safety factor is about 2.3 for Korean peninsular standard.
We performed a non-destructive geophysical survey such as an elastic wave survey, electric specific resistance survey, plate loading test, etc. in order to grasp the structure and status of the ground around the pillar gate and to provide the directions and design data for preservation and maintenance during reconstruction. The result of electric specific resistance survey shows 50-1300 ohm-m range of general electric specific resistance distribution. Besides, the positions around 1m south of stone pillars, between stone pillar No.3 and 4, and 1m north of stone pillar No.2 and 3 show abnormality of relatively lower electric specific resistance than their surroundings. The abnormality of low electric specific resistance appearing between stone pillar No.3 and 4 shows consistency with the abnormal section appearing from the result of elastic wave reflection survey. The result of a plate loading test shows that allowable bearing force is over $10.70tf/m^2$, and the settlement amount at this time was calculated as 19.635mm. The design load during reconstruction of pillar gates was calculated as $16.37t/m^2$ by applying assumption values, which is far more than the allowable bearing force, so it is judged that a measure to strengthen the foundation ground is necessary.
Limit state design (LSD) and allowable stress design (ASD) are two main types of soil nailing design methodologies. In the LSD method, stability is determined by applying individual coefficients to ground strength, working load and etc. The ASD method calculates the safety factor and compares it with the minimum safety factor to determine the stability. The global design trend of soil nailing system is changing from the ASD method to the LSD method. The design method in Korea still adopts the ASD philosophy while others mostly do the limit state design. In this study, four soil nail design methods, 'FHWA GEC 7' in U.S. (2015), 'Clouterre' in France (1991), 'Soil nailing - best practice guidance' in U.K. (2005), 'Geoguide 7' in Hongkong (2008), and 'Design guide for slope in construction work' in Korea (2016) were applied to the evaluation of the stability and the results were analyzed comparatively in brief. It is revealed that the design method of 'the overall stability of soil nail walls' in Korea is the most conservative and next those by FHWA, Clouterre and CIRIA become more conservative in order. However, the difference of results obtained from FHWA and Clouterre is negligible. Also, this study found out that efforts to improve domestic design criterion are needed.
