Solvolyses of methanesulfonyl chloride (CH3SO2Cl) in water and methanol have been studied theoretically using ab initio self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) molecular orbital method. All stationary structures including transition state on the potential energy surface in solution have been found and compared with the gas phase structures. The overall reaction occurs via a concerted SN2 mechanism with a non-cyclic trigonal bipyramidal transition state, and the activation barrier is lowered significantly in solution. The transition state for the hydrolysis reaction is looser than that for the methanolysis reaction, and this is in accord with the experimental findings that an SN2 type mechanism, which is shifted toward an SN1 process or an SAN process in the hydrolysis and alcoholysis reaction, respectively, takes place. The catalytic role of additional solvent molecules appears to be a purely general-base catalysis based on the linear transition structures. Experimental barrier can be estimated by taking into account the desolvation energy of nucleophile in the reaction of methanesulfonyl chloride with bulk solvent cluster as a nucleophile.
The microstructure and texture of three 316L foils of 25 ㎛ thickness, which were subjected to different manufacturing process, were systematically characterized using advance analytical techniques. Then, the electrochemical property of the 316L foils in simulated pressurized water reactor (PWR) solution was analyzed using potentiodynamic polarization. The results showed that final rolling strain and annealing temperature had evident effect on grain size, fraction of recrystallization, grain boundary type and texture distribution. It was suggested that large final rolling strain could transfer Brass texture to Copper texture; low annealing temperature could limit the formation of preferable orientations in the rolling process to reduce anisotropy. Potentiodynamic polarization test showed that all samples exhibited good corrosion performance in the simulated primary PWR solution.
The mechanically deboned chicken meat(MDCM) has several limits in using for in using for in processed meat products as a main material because of poor color and textural properties, chance of microbial contamination and lipid oxidation. There has been a growing interest all over world in the application of MDCM to the surimi process. The surimi made from MDCM contains a high concentration of myofibrillar protein since this processing involves repeated washing processes with an aqueous solution in order to remove heme pigments, fat and other undesirable substances. The quality of the surimi made from MDCM is affected by various processing factors, such as kinds of wash solution, ion strength, washing cycle, temperature, pH changes, composition, part of muscle, particle size, and rigor state etc. A number of researchers havee investigated the effect of the various washing conditions on the properties of surimi gels. A fuller information of all the factors affecting surimi processing and gel formation by heat-induced gelation has not been known yet.
The elastic moduli of simulated dry process fuels with varying composition and density were measured in order to analyze the mechanical properties of a dry process fuel pellet. Resonant ultrasound spectroscopy(RUS) which can determine all elastic moduli with one set of measurements for a rectangular parallelepiped sample was used to measure the elastic moduli of UO$_{2}$ and simulated dry process fuel. The simulated dry process fuel showed a higher value of Young's modulus than UO$_2$ due to the presence of metallic precipitates and solid solution elements in the UO$_{2}$ matrix. The correlation between Young's modulus and porosity(P) of simulated dry process fuel was found to be 231.4-651.8 P (GPa) at room temperature. Dry process fuel with a higher burnup showed higher Young's modulus because total content of fission product element was increased.
A knowledge based expert system is a computer program that emulates the reasoning process of a human expert in a specific problem domain. This paper presents an expert system to diagnose the various faults in power system. The developed expert system is represented considering two points; the possibility of solution and the fast processing speed. As uncertainties exist in the facts and rules which comprise the knowledge base of the expert system, Certainty Factor, which is based on the confirmation theory is used for the inexact reasoning. Also, as the diagnosis problem requires the inductive reasoning process in nature, the solution is imperfect and not unique in general. So the expert system is designed to generate all the possible hypothesis in order of the possibility and also it can explain the propagation procedure of the faults for each solution using the built in backtracking mechanism. In realization of the expert system, the processing speed is greatly dependent upon the problem representation, reasoning scheme and search strategy. So, in this paper the fault diagnosis problem itself is analysed from the view point of Artificial Intelligence and as a result, the expert system has the following basic features. 1) The certainty factor is adopted in the inference engine for inexact reasoning. 2) Problem apace is represented using the problem reduction technique. 3) Bidirectional reasoning scheme is used. 4) Best first search strategy is adopted for rapid processing. The expert system was developed us ing PROLOG language.

APro, a modularized process-based total system performance assessment framework, was developed at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) to simulate radionuclide transport considering coupled thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-chemical processes occurring in a geological disposal system. For reactive transport simulation considering geochemical reactions, COMSOL and PHREEQC are coupled with MATLAB in APro using an operator splitting scheme. Conventionally, coupling is performed within a MATLAB interface so that COMSOL stops the calculation to deliver the solution to PHREEQC and restarts to continue the simulation after receiving the solution from PHREEQC at every time step. This is inefficient when the solution is frequently interchanged because restarting the simulation in COMSOL requires an unnecessary setup process. To overcome this issue, a coupling scheme that calls PHREEQC inside COMSOL was developed. In this technique, PHREEQC is called through the "MATLAB function" feature, and PHREEQC results are updated using the COMSOL "Pointwise Constraint" feature. For the one-dimensional advection-reaction-dispersion problem, the proposed coupling technique was verified by comparison with the conventional coupling technique, and it improved the computation time for all test cases. Specifically, the more frequent the link between COMSOL and PHREEQC, the more pronounced was the performance improvement using the proposed technique.

Various ZnO/Ag/ZnO multilayers were fabricated and their optical properties were investigated. Top and bottom ZnO layers were formed by sol-gel method and mid-metal layers were deposited by spin coating. To find suitable deposition condition of Ag, we measure thickness and sheet resistance of Ag monolayer. After the optimization of Ag monolayer, we fabricate ZnO/Ag/ZnO multilayers. Transmittance of ZnO/Ag/ZnO multilayers increased to 63%. In near IR region, transmittance of ZnO/Ag/ZnO multilayers decreased to 35% when the concentration of Ag solution was 2.5wt%.
Pure and fine, two-component titanate powders (barium titanate, calcium titanate etc.) were synthesized by an ethylene glycol method. Titanium isopropoxide and other metal ionic salts were dissolved in liquid-type ethylene glycol without any precipitation. In non-aqueous system, the amount of ethylene glycol affected the solubility and homogeneity of metal cation sources in the solution. At the optimum amount of the polymer, the metal ions were dispersed effectively in solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. Most of the synthesized powders had sub-micron or nano-size primary particles after calcination and the agglomerated calcined powders were easily ground by ball milling process. All synthesized titanate powders had stable crystallization behavior at low temperature and high specific surface area after ball milling. The crystallization behavior and the microstructures of the calcined powders were affected on the ethylene glycol content.
Based on Ricatti equation $XA^{-1}X=B$ for two (positive invertible) operators A and B which has the geometric mean $A{\sharp}B$ as its solution, we consider a cubic equation $X(A{\sharp}B)^{-1}X(A{\sharp}B)^{-1}X=C$ for A, B and C. The solution X = $(A{\sharp}B){\sharp}_{\frac{1}{3}}C$ is a candidate of the geometric mean of the three operators. However, this solution is not invariant under permutation unlike the geometric mean of two operators. To supply the lack of the property, we adopt a limiting process due to Ando-Li-Mathias. We define reasonable geometric means of k operators for all integers $k{\geq}2$ by induction. For three positive operators, in particular, we define the weighted geometric mean as an extension of that of two operators.

All kinds of environmental problems are related to each local environment. For solving these problems, it is necessary to change regional people's Environmental Attitude in their particular community. In order to provide methods of the regional people's attitude change for solution to the environmental problems, the suggestions of this study are : 1) the systematical and continuing education about environmental problems for inhabitants 2) the persuasion process for regional people, 3) the inducement of their actions toward environmental problem solution, and 4) the social pressure through laws and institutes.
