The mixtures which are in the chemical composition of Portland cement were prepared from oyster shell, casting dust and BOF slag. The clinkerbility and the behaviour of formation of clinker minora]s were studied using the mixtures mainly by the mineral and microstructural observation. By virtue of the characteristics of starting raw materials, the clinkering temperature was lower as much as 100$^{\circ}C$ than that of a mixture prepared from normal raw materials. Uncombined calcium oxide was vanished entirely below 1350$^{\circ}C$. and the formation of major cement minerals such as alite and belite could be nearly accomplished without too much liquid phase within 1400$^{\circ}C$.
Raw mix of molten clinker was fabricated using blast furnace slag as starting material. Raw mix was melted at 1620$^{\circ}C$ for molten clinker fabrication. It was found that molten clinker contained alite and belite equivalent to OPC clinker mineral by optical microscope and SEM. The size of alite was 10~50 ${\mu}m$ and that of belite was 20~80 ${\mu}m$. This result thought to be attributed low $Al_2O_3$ content and cooling condition. Interstitial phase increased with blast furnace slag content and gehlenite was formed by the condition of LSF and SM. So raw mix with 27~41% blast furnace slag could be converted into cement clinker by appropriate choice of melting andcooling methods in this study.

In this study, cement clinker using a pure sample and clinker using 7% coal ash were sintered at a temperature of 1050~1500℃. Changes in the content of cement minerals and changes in microstructure by sintering temperature were reviewed. The application of coal ash as a raw material for cement clinker was applicable as a source of Al2O3 and SiO2. At a sintering temperature of 1350℃ or higher, the cement clinker applied with coal ash showed the same level of mineral content as compared to the cement clinker applied with pure raw material. The microstructure also showed a similar state, confirming that coal ash can be used as a raw material for cement. In XRD-Reitveld analysis, a maximum amount of Belite was produced at 1250℃. The conversion from Belite to Alite was observed from 1350℃. From 1350℃, the interstitial phase and the mineral phase presumed to be alite were distinguished. It was clearly distinguished from 1400℃. As the sintering temperature increased, the shape and boundary of the crystal phase became clear, and the size of the crystal phase was also increased.
Experimental investigation has been carried out to study the characteristics of the various grade limestones in Samtaesan formation with the fundamental test (mineral compostion, thermal decomposition and etc.) and intrinsic reactivity test. It was shown that belite formation in low grade limestones is faster than high grade limestone, but alite formation has a contrary.

The purpose of this study is to identify the character and condition of Cr in the clinker and thereby contribute to the research for reduction in utilizing Cr in the cement manufacturing process. The concentration of chromium by cement particle size and the distribution of chromium by clinker mineral were measured. Next, correlation was considered between chromium and the soluble components in cement. As a result, in the range that cement particles were 20${\mu}$m or less, highest soluble hexavalent chromium was found. When the concentration of chromium was measured through mineral separation, belite and the interstitial phase were higher in chromium than in alite. soluble hexavalent chromium was contained in domestic cement less than 20ppm, and its conversion ratio was somewhat high as 10 to 40% or so.
Hydration processes of the rapid hardening cement clinkers, which were synthesized from domestic alunite for major alumina source, limestone, kaolin and fluorite, were investigated by means of x-ray diffraction analysis, thermal analysis and microscopic observation etc. The clinkers were composed mainly of alite, calcium fluroaluminate (C11A7.CaF2) minerals. While the hydratio processes of the clinkers are altered by concentration of SO3 in the paste, calcium aluminate hydrates such as C4AH13, CAH10 and calcium monosulfate hydrate (C3A.CaSO4.12H2O) are formed at first and then some of them are transformed into ettringite(C3A.3CaSO4.32H2O) within 30~60 min. when the concentration of SO3 in the paste are enough. However the formed ettringite are changed slowly into calcium monosulfate hydrate as the concentration of SO3 become lowered, and the paste is hardened with these close-packed minerals. When the content of SO3 in clinker is so enough, calcium sulfoaluminate hydrates are found without any addition of anhydrite or hemi-hydrite.
With the increase of ZnO content, burnability of raw materials was improved and the formation of clinker minerals was accellerated. When ZnO was added 1wt%, the clinkering temperature was decreased about 30~5$0^{\circ}C$. As an increase of ZnO added, aluminate phase was decreased and ferrite phase was increased. When ZnO was added more than 3.0wt.%, the new phases, such as ZnO.Al2O3 and ZnO.Fe2O3 were formed. In the excess of amount of ZnO added, the decomposition of alite phase was intensed and the lamella structure in belite could not be observed due to the decomposition.
Hydration of granulated blastfurnace slag-gypsum-$C_4A_3\bar{S}$ clinker/modified converter slag clinker was investigated to develop the cement of slag-gypsum system. In the hydration of granulated slag-gypsum-$C_4A_3\bar{S}$ system clinker, the hydrates such as ettringite, CSH gel and $AH_3$ gel were formed, and the strength of hardened body would be increased by forming compact microstructure. The modified converter slag clinker which contains alite and calcium aluminate was synthesized, and the hydration reactivity of the cement from this clinker, gypsum and granulated slag is similar to usual portland cement, and the hydrates were mainly CSH, ettringite, and $Ca(OH)_2$.
The effects and behaviors of heavy metals incoming from industrial by-products were investigated in cement clinker reaction. The raw meal containing 500 ppm of heavy metal ion such as Cu, Cd, Cr, and Pb was calcined at $1450^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Burnability index, fixation concentration of heavy metals in clinker, and apportionment ratio were analyzed. Pb had a minimum fixation concentration of under 5% and Cr had a maximum over 85%. The burnability of Cr containing clinker was lower than that of others as the result of higher value of 3.41% of free lime after calcination at $1450^{\circ}C$. Cu, Cd, and Pb had not any significant effects on the clinker reactitivity. The volatility of heavy metals produced lots of macropores and micropores in clinker and minerals. Cd and Cr were the major apportionments in alite and belite and Cu in interstitial phase. Pb was existed under the detection limit of EDAX analysis due to its higher volatility.
In this study, a clinker was prepared using raw materials with CaCl2. The characteristics of the chlorine-added clinker and cement were analyzed. The clinker modulus were set to Lime Saturation Factor (LSF) 92, Silica modulus (SM) 2.5, and Iron Modulus (IM) 1.5. The physical properties of cement using the chlorine-containing clinker were characterized. As the chlorine content increased, the free-CaO content in the clinker decreased, and that in the 2000 ppm clinker was reduced by approximately 40% compared to that in the 0 ppm clinker. There was an increase in the amount of chlormayenite, with a content of up to 3.4% present in the 2000 ppm clinker. The amounts of alite and belite also slightly increased. The compressive strength of mortar at 3 days and 7 days increased as the chlorine content increased. This trend was presumed to arise from the effect of hydration, which was promoted by the presence of chlorine. The compressive strength of 1000 ppm mortar increased by approximately 20% compared to that of 0 ppm mortar.
