  • Genetic algorithms (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are the most famous optimization techniques among various modern heuristic optimization techniques. These two approaches identify the solution to a given objective function, but they employ different strategies and computational effort; therefore, a comparison of their performance is needed. This paper presents the application and performance comparison of the PSO and GA optimization techniques for a static synchronous series compensator-based controller design. The design objective is to enhance power system stability. The design problem of the FACTS-based controller is formulated as an optimization problem, and both PSO and GA optimization techniques are employed to search for the optimal controller parameters.

  • Studies have been made for the wireless sensor network protocols by a number of researchers to date. In particular, the studies as to the hierarchical protocol LEACH algorithm was concentrated. Various studies have been derived for the performance of the protocol is based on the LEACH protocol have been made. Improved algorithms have been proposed continuously. On the other hand, The performance comparison and evaluation of the improved algorithm is insufficient. Therefore, we compared the performance for the ML-LEACH (Multi Hop-Layered) and DL-LEACH (Dual Hop-Layered) been derived mainly LEACH. scalability, energy consumption, CH elected, network lifetime were selected as a Performance evaluation items.

  • This paper presents the comparison results of control algorithm for the simultaneous control of a multi output converter system that controls, simultaneously and independently, the separate Buck converter and Boost converter with the different specification by one DSP digital controller. As two separate converters are regulated by only one DSP, it is possible to achieve the simple digital control circuit for regulating the multi output DC-DC converter. By setting the software switch state, PI and Fuzzy controller can be applied as a controller for each converter without any change of hardware. Also, it is included the control characteristics comparison between PI and Fuzzy controller. The control characteristics of each PWM DC-DC converter is validated by experimental results.

  • As Data mining is a method of extracting the information based on the large data, the technique has been used in many application areas to deal with data in particular. However, the status of the algorithm that can deal with the healthcare data are not fully developed. In this paper, One of clustering algorithm, the EM and DBSCAN are used for performance comparison. It could be analyzed using by the same data. To do this, EM and DBSACN algorithm are changing performance according to the variables in Health expenditure database. Based on the results of the experimental data, We analyze more precise and accurate results using by Kernel Filtering. In this study, we tried comparison of the performance for the algorithm as well as attempt to improve the performance. Through this work, we were analyzed the comparison result of the application of the experimental data and of performance change according to expansion algorithm. Especially, Collects data from the various cluster using the medical record, it could be recommended the effective spending on medical services.

  • A direct computation algorithm of two dimensional fast Fourier transform (2D-FFT) is considered here for implementation in mesh connected multiprocessor array of both a 2D-toroidal and a rectangular type. Results are derived for a hardware algorithm including data allocation and interprocessor communications. A performance comparison is carried out between the proposed direct 2D-FFT computation and the conventional one to show that a new algorithm gives higher speedup under a reasonable assumption on the speeds of operations.

  • In this study, we compared backpropagation neural network(BPNN) with probabilistic neural network(PNN) as shape recognition algorithm of welding flaws. For this purpose, variables are applied the same to two algorithm. Here, feature variable is composed of time domain signal itself and frequency domain signal itself, Through this process, we comfirmed advantages/disadvantages of two algorithms and identified application methods of two algorithms.

  • The HPL(Horizontal Protection Limit) means bound of radial horizontal error with given probability in satellite navigation system. RAIM algorithm is not available if HPL exceeds HAL (Horizontal Alert Limit). So exact calculation of HPL is very significant in RAIM algorithm. In this paper the methods that calculate HPL their own way a]:e studied and compared by simulation. And availability of RAIM algorithm is evaluated also.

  • Filtering process that separates ground and non-ground points from LIDAR data is important in order to create the digital elevation model (DEM) or extract objects on the ground. The purpose of this research is to select the most effective filtering algorithm through qualitative and quantitative analysis for the existing filtering method used to extract ground points from LIDAR data. For this, four filtering methods including Adaptive TIN(ATIN), Perspective Center-based filtering method(PC), Elevation Threshold with Expand Window(ETEW) and Progressive Morphology(PM) were applied to mountain area, urban area and the area where building and mountains exist together. Then the characteristics for each method were analyzed. For the qualitative comparison of four filtering methods used for the research, visual method was applied after creating shaded relief image. For the quantitative comparison, an absolute comparison was conducted by using control points observed by GPS and a relative comparison was conducted by the digital elevation model of the National Geographic Information Institute. Through the filtering experiment of the LIDAR data, the Adaptive TIN algorithm extracted the ground points in mountain area and urban area most effectively. In the area where buildings and mountains coexist, progressive morphology algorithm generated the best result. In addition, as a result of qualitative and quantitative comparisons, the applicable filtering algorithm regardless of topographic characteristics appeared to be ATIN algorithm.

  • The paper first proposes an empirical algorithm for detecting dust-loaded airmass observed by Sea Wide Field-of-view Scanner (SeaWiFS). The proposed dust index formula is based on the curvature of the spectral reflectance estimated from the SeaWiFS band 4 (510 nm band) through band 8 (865 nm band) data, assuming "clear ocean water" reflectance. Evaluation of the algorithm is made over several typical Asian dust images including the ones over the Pacific in April, 1998, when a major dust event was reported. The study analyzes the performance and the characteristics of the algorithm by comparing the satellite-derived dust index images with contemporaneous columnar concentration of dust particles predicted by a numerical dust transport model. The comparison reveals several small-scale differences although their dust distribution patterns show good agreement generally.
