Recently in the welding field, the establishment of unmanned and automated systems are rapidly developing. Accurate interpretation of the welding phenomenon is applied a number of monitoring systems. In this paper, butt welding (6t) type I using Plasma-MIG welding was carried out. And we evaluated characteristics of the Al-5083 aluminium alloy in Plasma-MIG hybrid welding. Process variables including the plasma current, MIG voltage, wire feeding rate and the welding speed were used. Butt welding was conducted 1 pass. Argon gas was used as the protective gas that results from the experiment were able to achieve full penetration. In addition to monitoring the welding process occurring during MIG welding current, welding votage and Plasma current, voltage were collected in real time, the photodiode and CCD cameras observing the phenomenon that the welding is in progress were measured using a quantity of light.

This paper presents the ballistic armor performance examination and thickness estimation for the latest naval ship structure materials in the Republic of Korea. Up to date, research regarding methods of ballistic experiments establishing database on the latest hull structure materials as well as a precise method of estimating required thickness of armor against specific projectiles have been rarely researched. In order to build a database and estimate proper thicknesses of structure materials, this study used four structure materials that have been widely applied in naval ships such as AH36 steel, AL5083, AL5086, and Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP). A $7.62{\times}39mm$ mild steel core bullet normally fired by AK-47 gun was considered as a threat due to its representativeness. Tate and Alekseevskii's penetration algorithm was also used to calculate a correction factor (${\alpha}$) and then estimate the armor thickness of naval ship hull structure materials with a given impact velocity. Through live fire experiments, the proposed method performance difference was measured to be 0.6% in AH36, 0.4% in AL5083, 0.0% in AL5086, and 8.0% in FRP compared with the experiment results.

This paper shows the behaviors of macro- and micro-structures and mechanical properties for specimen's welding region welded by FSW. according to welding conditions with 5mm thickness aluminum 5083O alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone in case traverse speed was changed to 32 mm/min under conditions of anti-clockwise direction and tool rotation speed such as 800 and 1250 rpm with tool's pin diameter of 5 ${\Phi}mm$ and shoulder diameter of 20 ${\Phi}mm$, pin length of 4.5 mm and tilting angle of $2^{\circ}$. The ultimate stress of ${\sigma}_T=331$ MPa and the yield point of 147 MPa are obtained at the condition of the travel speed of 32 mm/min with the tool rotation speed of 1250 rpm. There is neither voids nor cracks on bended surface of $180^{\circ}$ after bending test. The improvement of toughness after impact test was found. The lower rotating and traverse speed became, the higher were yield point, maximum stress and elongation(%) with the stresses and the elongation(%) versus the traverse speed diagram. Vickers hardness for cross section of welding zone were also presented. The typical macro-structures such as dynamically recrystallized zone, thermo-mechanically affected zone and heat affected zone and the micro-structures of the transverse cross-section were also showed. However, the author found out that the region of 6mm far away from shoulder circumference was affected by friction heat comprehensively, that is, hardness softened and that part of micro-structures were re-solid-solution or recrystallized, the author also knew that there is no mechanically deformation on heat affected zone but there are the flow of plastic deformation of $45^{\circ}$ direction on thermo-mechanically affected zone and the segregation of Al-Mg on nugget. The solid solution wt(%) of parent material as compared against of friction stir welded zone was comprehensively changed.

This study was to evaluate mechanical properties and toughness of the Al5083-O aluminum alloy welding zone according to the mixing shield gas ratio and heat input change. The GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding of the base metal was carried out with four different mixing shield gas ratios(Ar100%+He0%, Ar67%+He33%, Ar50%+He50%, and Ar33%+He67%) and three different heat inputs(low, medium, and high). To investigate the Charpy absorbed energy of the weld zone, the specimens were divided base metal, weld metal, fusion line, and HAZ notched specimen according to the worked notch position. The different gas ratio and heat input had little effect upon the tensile strength. But Ar33%+He67% mixture had the greatest mechanical properties considering that the more He gas ratio concentrations, the higher yield strength and elongation. The maximum load and displacement of the weld metal notche specimen was so much low more than that of the base metal, but fusion line and HAZ notched specimens showed almost same regardless of the mixing shield gas ratio and heat input. The Charpy absorbed energy was lowest in weld metal notched specimen, and increased in the fusion line, and HAZ notche specimen in order. Ar33%+He67% mixture had the greatest toughness considering that the more He gas ratio, the higher absorption energy.

This paper investigated on mechanical characteristic of Al alloy for ship's welded with various welding techniques such as TIG, MIG welding and welding by robot. The yield strength, tensile strength and elongation in TIG welding present 83.9%, 64.6% and 21.9% compare to those in base metal, respectively. The MIG welding is carried out with welding eletrode of ER5183 and ER5356. The mechanical characteristics in ER5356 are improved at approximately 2-4% for ER5183. The mechanical properties of 5083O in welding by robot are better than those of 5456-H116.

Recently, the construction of the small Al alloy ships is an increasing trend in viewpoint such as the disposal issue of a retired ship, the enhancement of environmental regulation and resources recycling etc. for FRP ships. However, Al alloy ship which can achieve high speed by light weight in marine environment is exposed to a problem on materials damage by cavitation-erosion which is generated by large impact pressure with the collapse of air bubbles due to cavitation. Consequently, in this study, water cavitation peening technology was applied in Al alloy for ship to enhance durability life by preventing cavitation damage. So, the water cavitaton peening application time that presented the excellent cavitation characteristic investigated. The weight-loss of 5456-H116, 5083-H321 and 5052-O Al alloy at the optimum water cavitation peening time were improved to 42.11 %, 50.0 % and 25.7 %, respectively.
One of the main methods of building LNG tankers uses the Moss spherical tank design since it can be precisely analyzed with respect to reliability and safety of construction by stress analysis. Aluminum alloy 5083 is generally used in the Moss spherical tank design for the wall in constructing the LNG tanker. This aluminum alloy does not have low temperature brittleness, but has good corrosion resistance, good weldability, and excellent material properties for the application. The Moss spherical tank is constructed with several sections of A5083 thick plate with curved surfaces, which are welded together. It is essential to predict the amount of springback for the deformed thick plates in design to insure a reliable construction because the structure needs to be assembled into a perfect sphere. Unless the initial construction meets the design, there are additional processing costs for reworking to meet the specifications as well as a cost penalty paid to a consumer. In this paper, FE analyses were conducted to predict the amount of springback for various forming conditions and forming processes. The various forming processes were evaluated with respect to reducing springback and compared with the conventional forming process used for curved surfaces of thick Al plate.

Recently, there has been a new appreciation of aluminum alloys as materials that are capable of reducing the environment load. This is because aluminum alloys are lightweight, easy to recycle, permit miniaturization, and have environmental friendly properties. In this study, we investigated the mechanical and electrochemical properties of 5083F aluminum alloys using slow strain rate test(SSRT) and potentiostatic tests under various potential conditions. In the potentiostatic tests, the current density in the potential range from -0.7 to -1.4V after 1,200 s was low. After considering the results of the potentiostatic tests, maximum tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, time-to-fracture, observation of fractured specimen and fractography analysis, the optimum protection potential range was between -1.3 and -0.7V(Ag/AgCl).

The significance of casting/forging process for reducing the production cost of large components is being noted in these days. This casting/forging process is a method of forging a workpiece preformed by casting into the final shape. In this study, the casting/forging process has been applied in manufacturing a large aluminum flange in order to determine the optimum forging condition of the aluminum flange. The optimum range of forging temperature of Al 5083 was from $420^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. The suitable strain rate was 1.5 $sec^{-1}$. The deformation amount of a preform in a forging process is key role in the mechanical properties of casting/forging products. In order to find the change of mechanical properties according to effective stain of cast aluminum billets, a hot upsetting test were performed with rectangular blocks and then a uniaxial tensile test was performed with specimens cut from the upsetted billets. The tensile strength and the elongation of cast/upsetted aluminum billets were increased largely until the effective strain was 0.7. FE analysis was performed to determine the configurations of cast preform and die for an aluminum flange. In the FE analysis, the forging load-limit was fixed 1500ton for the low equipment cost. The cast preform was designed so that the effective stain around the neck of a flange exceeds 0.7. In the forging experiment for an aluminum flange, it was confirmed that the optimal configuration of the cast preform predicted by FE analysis was very useful. The cast/forged products using designed preform were made perfectly without any defects.
