  • AZO(Aluminum-doped Zinc Oxide) films are attractive materials as transparent conductive electrode because they are inexpensive, nontoxic and abundant element compared with ITO(Indium Tin Oxide). AZO films have been deposited on glass (corning 1737) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering. The AZO film was post-annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr with $N_2$ atmosphere. The AZO films were used as an anode contact to fabricate OLEDs(Organic Light Emitting Diodes). OLEDs with $AZO/TPD/Alq_3/Al$ configuration were fabricated by thermal evaporation. We investigated that the electric, structural and optical properties of AZO thin films, which measured using the methods of XRD, SEM, Hall measurement and Spectrophotometer. The current density-voltage and luminescence-voltage properties of devices were studied and compared with ITO devices fabricated under the same conditions.

  • Ships and offshore structures are exposed to harsh marine environments, and maintenance and repair are becoming increasingly important to the industry and the economy. The major corrosion phenomenons of metals and alloys in marine environment are pitting corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, crevice corrosion, fatigue corrosion, cavitation-erosion and etc. due to the effect of chloride ions and is quite serious. Methods of protection against corrosion can generally be divided into two groups: anodic protection and cathodic protection. Anodic protection is limited to the passivity characteristics of a material in its environment, while cathodic protection can apply methods such as sacrificial anode cathodic protection and impressed current cathodic protection. Sacrificial anode methods using Al and Zn alloys are widely used for marine structures and vessels intended for use in seawater. Impressed current cathodic protection methods are also widely used in marine environments, but tend to generate problems related to hydrogen embrittlement caused by hydrogen gas generation. Therefore, it is important to the proper maintenance and operation of the various corrosion protection systems for ship in the harsh marine environment.

  • Electrochemical alane ($AlH_3$) production process can be provided as a synthesis route which close a reversible cycle. In this study, growth inhibition of dendrite as key issues in this process was investigated. Main cause of dendrite growth was because Al fine powder separated in consumption process of Al electrode was moved to Pd electrode. In an effort to avoid this, use of glass block with uniform holes was the most effective to inhibit the amount of dendrite to that of $AlH_3$. Furthermore, effects of Al electrode (anode) type and electrolyte concentration were investigated and the optimal condition for inhibiting dendrite formation was proposed.

  • Properties of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with aluminum-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al) anodes showed different behaviors from OLEDs with indium tin oxide (ITO) anodes according to driving conditions. OLEDs with ITO anodes gave higher current density and luminance in lower voltage region and better EL and power efficiency under lower current density conditions, However, OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes gave higher current density and luminance in higher voltage region over about 8V and better EL and power efficiency under higher current density over $200mA/cm^2$. These seemed to be due to the differences in conduction properties of semiconducting ZnO:Al and metallic ITO. OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes showed nearly saturated efficiency under high current driving conditions compared with those of OLEDs with ITO anodes. This meant better charge balance in OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes. These properties of OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes are useful in making bright display devices with efficiency.

  • We investigated the effect of oxygen plasma treatment of indium-tin oxide(ITO) surface on the performance of electroluminescence(EL) devices. ITO surface treated oxygen plasma has been analyzed using atomic force microscope(AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), to investigate the relations between the properties of the ITO surface and the properties of the current-voltage-luminance(I-V-L) characteristics of the fabricated OLED with the structure of ITO(plasma treatment) / TPD / Alq$_3$/ Al. It is found that the oxygen plasma treatment of ITO anode improve the hole injection of the OLED due to the modification of the surface states. The treated ITO anode nay be low voltage with high luminance efficiency.

  • We report microcavity effect of top emission organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) by using Al cathode and anode, which are feasible for not only top emission EL and angle dependant effects but facile evaporation process without ion sputtering. The device in case of $Alq_3$ green emission showed largely shifted EL maximum wavelength as 650 nm maximum emission. It was also observed that detection angle causes different EL maximum wavelength and different CIE values in R, G, B color emission. As a result, the green device using $Alq_3$ emission showed 650 nm emission ($0^{\circ}$) to 576 nm emission ($90^{\circ}$) as detection angle changed. We believe that these phenomena can be also explained with microcavity effect which depends on the different length of light path caused by detection angle.

  • MAO (micro-arc oxidation) is an eco-friendly convenient and effective technology to deposit high-quality oxide coatings on the surfaces of Ti, Al, Mg and their alloys. The roles of the electrolyte concentration and relative cathode electrode area sizes in the grown oxide film during titanium MAO were investigated. The higher the concentration of the electrolyte, the lower the $R_{total}A$ value. The oxide film produced by the lower concentration of the electrolyte is thinner and less uniform than the film by the higher concentration, which is thick and porous. The cathode area size must be bigger than the anode area size in order to minimize the voltage drop across the cathode. The ratio of the cathode area size to the anode area size must be bigger than 8. Otherwise, the cathode will be another source for voltage drop, which is detrimental to and slows down the oxide growth.

  • We describe a manufacturing method and characteristics on components of molten carbonate fuel cell. Cr, Al, AI$_{2}$O$_{3}$, Co, MgO powder were mixed with Ni powder for anode components and NiO was used for cathode electrode. The electrolyte plate consisted of LiAIO$_{2}$ and carbonate (Li$_{2}$CO$_{3}$/K$_{2}$CO$_{3}$=62/38) and these three were manufactured by doctor-blade method. As a result, open circuit voltage was 1.05[VI at Ni-10Cr anode and porosity was above 60[%].
