Proteomic Response of Alfalfa Subjected to Aluminum (Al) Stress at Low pH Soil

  • In order to reveal the aluminum (Al) stress tolerance mechanisms in alfalfa plant at low pH soil, a proteomic approach has been conducted. Alfalfa plants were exposed to Al stress for 5 days. The plant growth and total chlorophyll content are greatly affected by Al stress. The malondialdehyde (MDA) and $H_2O_2$ contents were increased in a low amount but free proline and soluble sugar contents, and the DPPH-radical scavenging activity were highly increased. These results indicate that antioxidant activity (DPPH activity) and osmoprotectants (proline and sugar) may involve in ROS ($H_2O_2$) homeostasis under Al stress. In proteomic analysis, over 500 protein spots were detected by 2-dimentional gel electrophoresis analysis. Total 17 Al stress-induced proteins were identified, of which 8 protein spots were up-regulated and 9 were down-regulated. The differential expression patterns of protein spots were selected and analyzed by the peptide mass fingerprinting (PMF) using MALDI-TOF MS analysis. Three protein spots corresponding to Rubisco were significantly down-regulated whereas peroxiredoxin and glutamine synthetase were up-regulated in response to Al stress. The different regulation patterns of identified proteins were involved in energy metabolism and antioxidant / ROS detoxification during Al stress in alfalfa. Taken together, these results provide new insight to understand the molecular mechanisms of alfalfa plant in terms of Al stress tolerance.

The Properties of $\beta-SiC-ZrB_2$ Electroconductive Ceramic Composites with $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$Contents ($Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3 첨가량에 따른 {\beta}-SiC-ZrB_2$계 전도성 복합체의 특성)

  • The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed $\beta-SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as a function of the liquid forming additives of$Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha-SiC(6H) ZrB_2\; and YAG(Al_5Y_3O_{12})$ The relative density of composites were increased with increased Al2O3+Y2O3 contents. The Flexural strength showed the highest value of 390.6MPa for composites added with 20wt% Al2O3+Y2O3 additives at room temperature. Owing to crack deflection crack bridging phase transition and YAG of fracture toughness mechanism the fracture toughness showed the highest value of 6.3MPa.m1/2 for composites added with 24wt% Al2O3+Y2O3 additives at room temperature. The resistance temperature coefficient showed the value of$ 2.46\times10^{-3}\;, 2.47\times10^{-3},\; 2.52\times10^{-3}/^{\circ}C$ for composite added with 16, 20, 24wt% Al2O3+Y2O3 additives respectively. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $256{\circ}C\; to\; 900^{\circ}C$.

The Pollution Characteristics of Heavy Metals from Surface Sediment in Nakdong River (낙동강 하상퇴적물의 중금속 오염특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the contents of heavy metals with respect to the depth, particle size and Tessier et al. method in surface sediment of the Nakdong river. The contents of Cd, Cu & Pb were high or similar with increasing depth, but Mn & Zn were high to middle depth. Generally, the contents of heavy metals were found to be high as the particle size become more small and more deep. Because the more particle size was small, the specific surface area was large, the contents of heavy metals was high for increasing affinity. It was estimated that the types of heavy metals contained in surface sediment by Tessier et al. method was dissimilar with anaerobic condition, pH and degradation of organic matter, etc.

A Study on the Contents of Heavy Metals in Carassis auratus of River and Reservoir on Cheonbuk Area (전북지역 강과 저수지에 서식하는 붕어의 중금숙 함량에 관하여)

  • This study was performed to investigated the contamination levels of harmful heavy metals were sampled from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, 1997, at 9 areas in Cheonbuk area. The heavy metal contents were determinated by ICPS(Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer) method. The levels of total lead, cadmium, aluminum, iron and copper were determined and the results were summarized as follows: The minimum and maximum values(ppm) of 9 areas of Carassius auratus were Pb: 2.03~6.19, Cd: 0.06~ 0.76, Al: 8.84~23.5, Zn: 10.68~48.71, Cu: 0.60~1.51ppm. Among the five heavy metals contents, the highest was zinc and the lowest was cadmium. The results showed that the contents of Pb, Cd, Al, Zn and Cu in Carassius auratus were lower than the FAO/WHO maximum allowance.

  • Recently, remote user authentication scheme protecting user anonymity using smart card has been researched with interest increasing on user privacy. Although authentication scheme providing user anonymity using smart card had been proposed by Das et al, Chien et al. pointed out Das et al. scheme fail to provide user anonymity and proposed new scheme to overcome the problem. A remote system Kim et al. proposed a scheme which is traceable about malicious user with protecting user anonymity. In this paper, we point out that Kim et a1. scheme fail to provide user anonymity and propose a scheme for some problems Kim et al. scheme has. And then we analysis our scheme on cryptophic security and efficiency with Kim scheme.

A Study on the Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Spray-cast Hypereutectic Al-Si-Fe Alloys (분사주조한 과공정 Al-Si-Fe 합금의 기계적 및 열적 특성에 관한 고찰)

  • Mechanical and thermal properties of spray-cast hypereutectic Al-20wt.%Si-xwt.%Fe alloys (x=0, 1, 3, 5) were investigated. After the spray-casting, hot extrusion was performed at $400^{\circ}C$. Intermetallic compound (${\beta}-Al_5FeSi$) and primary Si are observed in the spray-cast aluminum alloys. The size of primary Si and intermetallic compound of the spray-aluminum alloys became finer and more uniformly distributed than that of the permanent mold cast ones. Ultimate tensile strength of the spray-cast aluminum alloys increased by increasing Fe contents, but that of the permanent mold cast aluminum alloys decreased by increasing Fe contents possibly due to increased amount of coarse intermatallic compound. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTEs) of the aluminum alloys became lower with finer primary Si and intermetallic compound, and this is attributed to the increased amount of interfacial area between the aluminum matrix and the phases of finer Si and intermetallic compound.

Effects of Mn and Si Contents on the Castabilities and Mechanical Properties of Al-5%Mg Base Alloys (Al-5%Mg 합금의 주조성과 기계적 성질에 미치는 합금원소 Mn 및 Si의 영향)

  • High ductility Al-Mg alloys often contain some Mn and Si, however the effects of these minor alloying elements on various properties of alloys have not been fully understood. In this study the castability and mechanical properties of Al-5%Mg alloy were investigated according to the addition of Mn and Si. The fluidity of the alloys was generally increased by increasing Si or Mn contents. The feedability was also increased by increasing Si content, but it was rather decreased by increasing Mn content. Both the tensile strength and the ductility appeared to be deteriorated by Si addition, while they were found to be improved by Mn addition.

Magnetic Properties and Hyperfine Interaction of BaSrCo2(Fe1-xAlx)12O22 Hexaferrite

  • Polycrystalline $BaSrCo_2(Fe_{1-x}Al_x)_{12}O_{22}$ (x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10) samples were synthesized by polymerizable complex method. Based on the Rietveld refinement, crystal structures of the samples were found to be single-phased and determined to be rhombohedral with space group of R-3m. The hysteresis curves of the samples were measured under 15 kOe at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 and 295 K. It shows that they were not saturated with increasing Al ion contents due to the reduction of magnetic anisotropy. $M_{15kOe}$ was decreased with increasing Al ions contents. We expect that non-magnetic Al ions preferentially occupy the up-spin site of $18h_{VI}$, $3b_{VI}$, and $3a_{VI}$. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the samples were obtained at 295 K, and analyzed with sixsextets for Fe sites corresponding to the Y-type hexaferrite crystallography sites. The <$E_Q$> shows abrupt changes, and the <$H_{hf}$> shows abrupt decreases around x = 0.05 due to the coexistence of magnetic secondary phases.

Microstructure, Mechanical, Oxidation and Corrosion Properties of Zr-Al-N Coatings Synthesized by the Hybrid Coating System (하이브리드 코팅 시스템에 의해 합성된 Zr-Al-N 박막의 미세구조와 기계적 특성, 산화 특성, 부식특성)

  • Zr-Al-N coatings were synthesized by the hybrid coating system combining arc ion plating and DC magnetron sputtering from a Zr and an Al target in argon-nitrogen atmosphere, respectively. By changing the power applied on the Al cathodes, the Zr-Al-N coatings with various Al contents were deposited. The microstructure and chemical compositions of the Zr-Al-N coatings were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). With increasing of Al content in the coatings, the solid solution (Zr, Al)N crystallites were observed in the Zr-Al-N coatings. The nanohardness of the Zr-Al-N coatings exhibited a maximum value of 42 GPa for the Zr-Al (7.9 at.%)-N, and decreased with further increase in Al content in the coatings. The oxidation and corrosion behavior of the Zr-Al-N coatings revealed better properties compared than those of ZrN coatings due to the formation of a solid solution.
