  • A new and efficient method is presented for design optimization, which is based on a computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The method is applied to design an airfoil configuration. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved for the viscous analysis of the flow, which provides the object function. The CFD analysis is then coupled with the optimization procedure that used a conjugate gradient method. During the one-dimensional search of the optimization procedure, an approximate flow analysis based on a first-order Taylor series expansion is used to reduce the computational cost, (This study is supported by Korean Ministry of Education through Research Fund)

  • This paper presents the numerical simulation results of heat transfer and friction loss for a rotating two-pass duct with the airfoil-guide vanes in the turning region. The Kriging model is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis of flow field and heat transfer with shear stress transport turbulent model. To improve the heat transfer performance, angle and location of the airfoil-guide vanes have been selected as design variables. The optimization problem has been defined as a minimization of the objective function, which is defined as a linear combination of heat transfer related term and friction loss related term with a weight factor. The airfoil-guide vanes in the turning region keep the high level of heat transfer while the friction loss has a low value. By comparing the presence or absence of airfoil-guide vanes, it is shown that the airfoil-guide vanes exhibited the best heat transfer performance to improve the blade cooling except the first passage.

  • A multi-objective design exploration for a three-element airfoil consisted of a slat, a main wing, and a flap was carried out. The lift curve improvement is important to design high-lift system, thus design has to be performed with considered multi-angle. The objective functions considered here are to maximize the lift coefficient at landing and near stall conditions simultaneously. Kriging surrogate model which was constructed based on several sample designs is introduced. The solution space was explored based on the maximization of Expected Improvement (EI) value corresponding to objective functions on the Krigingmodels. The improvement of the model and the exploration of the optimum can be advanced at the same time by maximizing EI value. In this study, a total of 90 sample points are evaluated using the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes simulation(RANS) for the construction of the Kriging model. In order to obtain the information of the design space, two data mining techniques are applied to design result. One is functional Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) which can show quantitative information and the other is Self-Organizing Map(SOM) which can show qualitative information.

  • 비행속도와 조건에 따라 최적화된 형상을 갖는 모핑 날개는 작동기 기술, 구조 기계장치 기술, 유연 외피 재료, 제어법칙 기술 등 해결할 문제가 많다. 본 연구에서는 빠른 응답속도를 갖는 모핑 날개를 개발하기 위한 첫 단계로 형상기억합금 선을 작동기와 복원용 비틀림 스프링으로 구동되는 단일 플랩을 갖는 에어포일 설계하고 제작하였다. 제작된 모핑 에어포일의 작동실험을 통해 설계 개념의 타당성을 검증하였다. 실험을 통해 측정한 결과 원활한 작동과 매우 빠른 반응속도를 확인하였다.

Pterosarus 날개 형상 및 공력특성 (Shapes and Aerodynamics of Pterosarus' Wing)

  • A pterosarus is an ancient flying reptile and the first vertebrate with powered flight. The shapes of the pretosarus'airfoil in the published literature are reconstructed. The aerodynamics of the Pterosarus is obtained using a free software XFOIL. The steady aerodynamics of the Pterosarus' airfoil are investigated focusing on the gliding performance. The numerical results are validated by comparing the computed aerodynamic coefficients with the measured data. The secretes of the Pterosarus' highly camberred airfoil are elucidated by comparing the aerodynamics with that of the birds'.

A novel high performance diffuser design for small DAWT's by using a blunt trailing edge airfoil

  • This paper proposes a novel diffuser design for Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbines (DAWT) based on the blunt trailing edge airfoil AF300. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are carried out to measure the performance of the AF300 diffuser against diffusers made with the shape of other high performance low wind speed airfoils. The results show that the proposed diffuser produces a greater air mass flow increase through the plane of the turbine than the other diffusers and it can be used to increase the performance of a horizontal axis wind turbine.

결빙 증식 최소화를 위한 다중 익형 형상 최적설계 (Design Optimization of Multi-element Airfoil Shapes to Minimize Ice Accretion)

  • 항공기가 빙점 이하의 습도가 높은 구름대를 지날 때 액적이 항공기와 충돌하면 날개, 동체 등 항공기 구성품에 결빙이 발생한다. 특히 항공기의 날개에 결빙이 증식되면 공력 성능의 저하와 비행 안정성의 감소 등의 치명적인 안전 문제를 초래할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 항공기 날개에 적용되는 고양력 장치인 다중 익형의 결빙 증식량이 최소가 되도록 형상 최적설계를 수행하였다. 3차원 Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes 지배 방정식을 이용하여 공력해석을 수행하였고, 다물리 전산해석을 통해 결빙의 형상 및 증식량을 예측하였다. 최적설계의 목적함수는 결빙 증식량 최소화로 설정하였고, 설계변수는 Slat과 Flap의 전개 각도와 위치를 정의하는 형상 변수 6개를 선정하였다. 설계 과정에서 목적함수의 평가는 크리깅 근사모델을 사용하여 대체하였고 유전자 알고리즘을 적용하여 최적 형상을 도출하였다. 최적화를 수행한 결과, Slat과 Flap에 최적의 전개 각도와 위치를 적용하였을 때 결빙 증식량이 약 8% 감소하였다.

지면효과를 고려한 WIG 선 익형의 공력특성 및 형상최적화 (Aerodynamic Characteristics and Shape Optimization of Airfoils in WIG Craft Considered Ground Effect)

  • Shape optimization of airfoil in WIG craft has been performed by considering the ground effect. The WIG craft should satisfy various aerodynamic characteristics such as lift, lift to drag ratio, and static height stability. However, they show a strong trade-off phenomenon so that it is difficult to satisfy aerodynamic properties simultaneously. Optimization is carried out through the multi-objective genetic algorithm. A multi-objective optimization means that each objective is considered separately instead of weighting. Due to the trade-off, pareto sets and non-dominated solutions can be obtained instead of the unique solution. NACA0015 airfoil is considered as a baseline model, shapes of airfoil are parameterized and rebuilt with four-Bezier curves. There are eighteen design variables and three objective functions. The range of design variables and their resolutions are two primary keys for the successful optimization. By two preliminary optimizations, the variation can be reduced effectively. After thirty evolutions, the non-dominated pareto individuals of twenty seven are obtained. Pareto sets are all the set of possible and excellent solution across the design space. At any selections of the pareto set, these are no better solutions in all design space.

반응표면법을 이용한 전진비행하는 헬리콥터 로터 에어포일의 공력설계 (Aerodynamic Design of Helicopter Rotor Airfoil in Forward Flight Using Response Surface Method)

  • 이 논문은 최적설계 기법의 적용을 통하여 전진비행하는 조건에서 헬리콥터 로터를 구성하는 에어포일의 공력성능을 향상시키는 것에 목적을 가지고 있다. 전진비행하는 로터의 유동장을 모사하는 에어포일의 동적반응에 의한 공력성능은 Navier-Stokes 방정식을 이용하여 계산되어진다. 최적설계 기법은 수리통계적인 방법에 기초하는 반응표면법과 적절한 목적함수와 제약조건의 조합을 통하여 최적점을 구해내는 유전 알고리즘으로 구성되어진다. 유동해석 방법과 설계기법의 통합을 바탕으로 공력성능이 향상된 에어포일의 형상을 구할 수 있었으며 통계학적인 방법에 기초하여 설계연구에 사용되어진 형상변수들이 공력성능에 영향을 미치는 정도를 파악할 수 있었다.

다목적 유전알고리즘을 이용한 익형의 전역최적설계 (Global Shape Optimization of Airfoil Using Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm)

  • The shape optimization of an airfoil has been performed for an incompressible viscous flow. In this study, Pareto frontier sets, which are global and non-dominated solutions, can be obtained without various weighting factors by using the multi-objective genetic algorithm An NACA0012 airfoil is considered as a baseline model, and the profile of the airfoil is parameterized and rebuilt with four Bezier curves. Two curves, front leading to maximum thickness, are composed of five control points and the rest, from maximum thickness to tailing edge, are composed of four control points. There are eighteen design variables and two objective functions such as the lift and drag coefficients. A generation is made up of forty-five individuals. After fifteenth evolutions, the Pareto individuals of twenty can be achieved. One Pareto, which is the best of the . reduction of the drag furce, improves its drag to $13\%$ and lift-drag ratio to $2\%$. Another Pareto, however, which is focused on increasing the lift force, can improve its lift force to $61\%$, while sustaining its drag force, compared to those of the baseline model.
