This paper presents a micro air pump actuated by PZT actuator (synthetic jet actuator) for air supply for micro fuel cells. The synthetic jet actuators are usually created by a traditional PZT-driven actuator, which consists of a small cylindrical cavity, in/outlet channel and PZT diaphragms. To design the micro air pump, a numerical analysis has been conducted for flow characteristics with respect to various geometries. A prototype of the micro air pump, with a size of $mm{\times}mm{\times}mm$, was fabricated by PDMS replication process and was conducted performance test. To control the PZT actuator, we used the SP4423 micro chips that can be amplified input voltage to reduce the controller size and the power consumption. With a voltage of 3V at 100Hz, the air pump's pumping pressure is 600pa and its power consumption is only 0.1mW.
Various jet engines (Turbine engine family and RAM Jet engine) have been developed for high speed aircrafts. but their application to hypersonic flight is restricted by principle problems such as increase of total pressure loss and thermal stress. Therefore, the development of next generation propulsion system for hypersonic aircraft is a very important subject in the aerospace engineering field, SCRAM Jet engine based on a key technology, Supersonic Combustion. is supposed as the best choice for the hypersonic flight. Since Supersonic Combustion requires both rapid ignition and stable flame holding within supersonic air stream, much attention have to be given on the mixing state between air stream and fuel flow. However. the wider diffusion of fuel is expected with less total pressure loss in the supersonic air stream. So. in this study the direction of fuel injection is inclined 30 degree to downstream and the total pressure of jet is controlled for lower penetration height than thickness of boundary layer. Under these flow configuration both streams, fuel and supersonic air stream, would not mix enough. To spread fuel wider into supersonic air an aerodynamic force, baroclinic torque, is adopted. Baroclinic torque is generated by a spatial misalignment between pressure gradient (shock wave plane) and density gradient (mixing layer). A wedge is installed in downstream of injector orifice to induce an oblique shock. The schlieren optical visualization from side transparent wall and the total pressure measurement at exit cross section of combustor estimate how mixing is enhanced by the incidence of shock wave into supersonic boundary layer composed by fuel and air. In this study non-combustionable helium gas is injected with total pressure 0.66㎫ instead of flammable fuel to clarify mixing process. Mach number 1.8. total pressure O.5㎫, total temperature 288K are set up for supersonic air stream.
The milling process is considered as causing one of the greatest grain losses among all the processes in rice post-production. Major source of grain losses in the rice milling is considered as the whitening process. This study was attempted to develop an abrasive-type whitener, the whitening chamber of which being supplied by jet-air evenly and continuously. To investigate the milling performance by the new whitener, three kind of emery-stone grit(#36, #41, and #46), and three levels of rotational speed of emery stone roller (950, 1070, and 1200 rpm) were tested. The jet-air abrasive-type whitener was also compared with the conventional abrasive-type having no jet-air blower in terms of their milling performance. In addition, the effect of different combinations of sequential uses of the abrasive- and friction-type whiteners on the milling performance was also experimentally evaluated. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. In general, the whitening system combined with the abrasive type whitener with jet-air supply, which was newly designed, and the existing jet-air friction type whiteners produces more milled- and head-rice by about 0.3% points and 2.8% points, respectively than the system combined with the existing abrasive type without the jet-air supply under the same operational conditions. The former also consumed less electricity by 0.024 KwH per 100kg of milled rice production and gave more milling capacity by about 35 kg/hr. As compared with the conventional whitening system consisting of jet-air friction type whiteners only, the former yielded more milled- and head-rice by 1.5% points and 4.4% points, respectively. 2. The abrasive roller having 46 grit emery was better than the roller having 36 grit in aspects of milling performance and machine efficiency, in general. 3. With regard to the effect of combination method of abrasive type and friction type whiteners, one pass in abrasive type plus three passes in friction type gave better milling performance and energy efficiency than the two passes in abrasive type plus two passes in friction type regardless of the designs of the emery stone rollers. 4. The increase in rotational speed of the emery stone roller from 950 rpm to 1200 rpm presented negative effects on milled and head-rice yields and machine efficiency, but slightly positive effect on milling capacity.
In this paper, the flow characteristics of an axial fan spraying isothermal compact jet in a confined space were investigated by the experimental methods, the numerical method, and the free jet theory According to the results, the numerical result and the experimental result are agreed well qualitatively and different quantitatively within $\pm1.0%$ for the centerline velocity, the entrainment ratio, and the maximum throw. However, the free jet theory can reasonably predict the centerline velocity except the entrainment ratio and the maximum throw. In other words, the entrainment ratio and the maximum throw by 1.he free jet theory are hard to estimate the characteristics of jet because of restriction of c confined space.
A numerical study is peformed to investigate the effect of circumferential velocity generated by the guide vane on the nozzle flow of a jet fan, s a way of increasing the penetration force of jet fan with nozzle of 175mm diameter. For the validation of numerical results. the velocity is measured by a 5-hole pitot tube and flow visualization is conducted by the tuft method. Under the inlet condition that the maximum circumferential velocity in the stator outlet of the present jet fan is 1.8m/s, the axial velocity in the nozzle outlet has the feature that the velocity at the axis is low and the velocity near the wall high. Therefore, to increase the throw length of the jet fan, the configuration of the fairing and nozzle needs to be developed and the precise revise of the stator angle is required, In addition, the bigger the circumferential velocity, the smaller the axial velocity at the axis and the bigger non-uniformity of the flow distribution.
The method of Impinging jet was applied lots of part in industrial field as a cooling of as gas turbine blade, a annealing of metal and plastic sheets, drying of textile, veneer paper, X-ray medical devices, laser weapons and electronic components. This study's main factor is reciprocating Jet impingement perpendicular to the heated Surface. We researched the effect of heat transfer and enhancement with pulsating air jet. The pulsating air jet has an improvement in pulsating Frequencies((f= 0.5, 1, 1.5, 3Hz) and nozzle-to-plate distances($l/d=\;2{\sim}4,\;6{\sim}8,\;4{\sim}6,\;8{\sim}10$).

A two phase compound jet, which mixes pulverized solid particles with the air in the test section, is experimentally analyzed in this study. Two phase flow is jetted 10 degree upward in the primary jet, while the secondary jet utilizes the air only. The height difference between the primary and secondary central axises is 32.5mm. The velocity vector field, concentration field, and turbulent properties of solid particles are measured by using 3-Dimensional Particles Dynamics Analyzer. When the jet angle of the secondary jet goes into effect, the solid particle recirculation zone becomes larger. Also, solid particle concentration becomes more dense due to a velocity decrement of particles.
An experimental study is performed on the flow characteristics of a swirl-jet diffuser for factory ventilation. Swirl number ranges from 0(nonswirl jet) to 0.6 when the angle of swirl vane is 60 degree. As swirl becomes strong, the maximum velocity in the plane perpendicular to jet axis decreases fast and the uniformity of velocity becomes good, particularly in the ventilated area. The similarity in velocity profiles has been found for axial velocity from even when swirl number equals 0.6. The flow characteristics of the swirl-jet which has the swirl number of 0.6 is thought to be the best among these three swirl numbers for factory ventilation. However, the pressure drop in the diffuser increases as the swirl becomes strong. This should be considered in the design of the total ventilation system including a duct system.
To understand hydrogen jet liftoff height, the stabilization mechanism of turbulent lifted jet flames under non-premixed conditions was studied. The objectives were to determine flame stability mechanisms, to analyze coexistence of two different flame structure, and to characterize the lifted jet at the flame stabilization point. Hydrogen flow velocity varied from 100 to 300 m/s. Coaxial air velocity was changed from 12 to 20 m/s. Simultaneous velocity field and reaction zone measurements used, PIV/OH PLIF techniques with Nd:YAG lasers and CCD/ICCD cameras. Liftoff height decreased with the increase of fuel velocity. The flame stabilized in a lower velocity region next to the faster fuel jet due to the mixing effects of the coaxial air flow. The flame stabilization was related to turbulent intensity and strain rate assuming that combustion occurs where local flow velocity and turbulent flame propagation velocity are balanced. At the flame base, two different flame structures were found that was the partial premixed flames and premixed flame.
