The interaction between advancing ships and the waves generated by them plays important roles in wave resistances and ship motions. Wave breaking phenomena near the ship bow at different speeds are investigated both numerically and experimentally. Numerical simulations of free surface profiles near the fore bodies of ships are performed and visualized to grasp the general trend or the mechanism of wave breaking phenomena from moderate waves rather than concentrating on local chaotic irregularities as ship speeds increase. Navier-Stokes equations are differentiated based on the finite difference method. The Marker and Cell (MAC) Method and Marker-Density Method are employed, and they are compared for the description of free surface conditions associated with the governing equations. Extra effort has been directed toward the realization of extremely complex free surface conditions at wave breaking. For this purpose, the air-water interface is treated with marker density, which is used for two layer flows of fluids with different properties. Adaptation schemes and refinement of the numerical grid system are also used at local complex flows to improve the accuracy of the solutions. In addition to numerical simulations, various model tests are performed in a ship model towing tank. The results are compared with numerical calculations for verification and for realizing better, more efficient research performance. It is expected that the present research results regarding wave breaking and the geometry of the fore body of ship will facilitate better hull form design productivity at the preliminary ship design stage, especially in the case of small and fast ship design. Also, the obtained knowledge on the impact due to the interaction of breaking waves and an advancing hull surface is expected to be applicable to investigation of the ship bow slamming problem as a specific application.

Electroluminescence(EL) devices based on organic thin films have been attracted lots of interests in large-area light-emitting display. In this stuffy, an emissive layer was fabricated using Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique in organic light-emitting (OLEDs). This emissive organic material was synthesized and named PECCP[poly(3.6-N-2-ethylhexyl carbazolyl cyanoterephthalidene)] which has a strong electron donor group and an electron acceptor group in main chain repeated unit. This material has good solubility in common organic solvents such as chloroform. THF, etc, and has a good stability in air. The Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique has the advantage of precise control of the thickness down to the molecular scale, In particular, by varying the film thickness it is possible to investigate the metal/polymer interface. Optimum conditions for the LB film deposition are usually determined by investigating a relationship between a surface pressure $\pi$ and an effective are A occupied by one molecule on the subphase. The LB films were deposited on an indium-tin-oxide(ITO) glass at a surface pressure of 10 mN/m and dipping speed of 12 mm/min after spreading PECCP solution on distilled water surphase at room temperature, Cell structure was ITO/PECCP LB film/Alq$_3$/Al. We considered PECCP as a hole -transport layer inserted between the emissive layer and ITO. We also used Alq$_3$ as an emissive layer and an electron transport layer. We measured current-voltage(I-V) characteristics, UV/visible absorption, PL spectrum and EL spectrum of the OLEDs.

As part of planning for waste minimization, decontamination foam has been considered as a potential application for the cleaning of radioactive contaminant. In this study, we synthesized silica particles to improve foam stability by varying synthesis parameters. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) was found to influence the stability of the decontamination foam. The reason was that higher interaction between $SiO_2$ nanoparticles and surfactant at the air-water interface in aqueous solution is beneficial for foam stability. CTAB can also be used as an additive for the aggregation of silica nanoparticles. In the separation of $SiO_2$ nanoparticles, CTAB plays a critical role in the nanoparticles flocculation because of the charge neutralization and hydrophobic effects of its hydrocarbon tails.

The absorption spectra of synthesis of long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene start from p-(p'-hydroxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid was investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometery in chloroform solvent at the various temperature. In addition, The pressure-area of the water-air interface was obtained and the LB film was fabricated onto a quartz slide and quartz crystal by conventional Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The UV absorption spectra of Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) film on quartz slide and spectrum of monolayer formed on quartz crystal have been measured. Long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene are induced phtoisomerization by the application of u. v. and visible light irradiation alternatively the reversibility of phtoisomerization was more clear difference when the number of $C_{n}$ increased but, not so good at $C_{14}-azo$. At the pressure-area isotherms, the value of surface pressure increment were decreased when the number of $C_{n}$ increased. A surface pressure of 20mN/m was obtained as a proper one for a film deposition. The photoisomerization at LB films were induced by application of UV and visible light irradiation alternatively. So the LB film of long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene has possibility to being applied to functional molecular devices such as photomemory and light switching.
The PGLE and PGLE3 nonionic surfactants were synthesized from the reaction between glycidol and lauryl acid and their structures were confirmed by $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR analysis. The CMCs of PGLE and PGLE3 surfactants were found to be $3.59{\times}10^{-2}$ mol/L and $8.80{\times}10^{-2}$ mol/L respectively and the surface tensions at their CMC conditions were 26.09 mN/m and 28.68 mN/m respectively. Dynamic surface tension measurement has shown that the adsorption rate of surfactant molecules at the interface between air and surfactant solution was found to be relatively fast in both surfactant systems, presumably due to high mobility of surfactant molecules. The contact angles of PGLE and PGLE3 nonionic surfactants were $25.5^{\circ}$ and $9.5^{\circ}$ respectively. Dynamic interfacial tension measurement showed that both surfactant systems reached equilibrium in 20 minutes and the interfacial tensions at equilibrium condition in both systems were 0.42 mN/m and 0.53 mN/m respectively. The PGLE surfactant system has indicated higher foam stability than the PGLE3 surfactant system, which is consistent with surface tension measurement. The phase behavior experiments performed at $25{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ in systems containing nonionic surfactant, water, n-hydrocarbon oil and cosurfactant showed a lower phase or oil in water microemulsion in equilibrium with excess oil phase at all conditions investigated during this study.

In order to achieve a high speed and high quality silicon wafer bonding, the room-temperature direct bonding using atmospheric pressure plasma and sprayed water vapor was developed. Effects of different plasma fabrication parameters, such as flow rate of $N_2$ gas, flow rate of CDA (clear dry air), gap between the plasma head and wafer surface, and plasma applied voltage, on plasma activation were investigated using the measurements of the contact angle. Influences of the annealing temperature and the annealing time on bonding strength were also investigated. The bonding strength of the bonded wafers was measured using a crack opening method. The optimized condition for the highest bonding strength was an annealing temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ and an annealing time of 2 hours. For the plasma activation conditions, the highest bonding strength was achieved at the plasma scan speed of 30 mm/sec and the number of plasma treatment of 4 times. After optimization of the plasma activation conditions and annealing conditions, the direct bonding of the silicon wafers was performed. The infrared transmission image and the cross sectional image of bonded interface indicated that there is no void and defects on the bonded wafers. The bonded wafer exhibited a bonding strength of average $2.3J/m^2$.

This study investigates thermal and mechanical characterization of environmental barrier coating on the $SiC_f-SiC$ composites. The spherical environmental barrier coating (EBC) powders are prepared using a spray drying process for flowing easily during coating process. The powders consisting of mullite and 12 wt% of Ytterbium silicate are air plasma sprayed on the Si bondcoat on the LSI SiC fiber reinforced SiC composite substrate for protecting the composites from oxidation and water vapor reaction. We vary the process parameter of spray distance during air plasma spray of powders, 100, 120 and 140 mm. After that, we performed the thermal durability tests by thermal annealing test at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 100hr and thermal shock test from $1200^{\circ}C$ for 3000 cycles. As a result, the interface delamination of EBC never occur during thermal durability tests while stable cracks are prominent on the coating layer. The crack density and crack length depend on the spray distance during coating. The post indentation test indicates thermal tests influence on the indentation load-displacement mechanical behavior.
Apical sealing is essential for the success of surgical endodontic treatment. Root-end cavity is apt to be contaminated with moisture or blood, and is not always easy to be dried completely. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of dry methods of retrocavity on the apical seal in endodontic surgery. Apical seal was investigated through the evaluation of apical leakage and adaptation of filling material over the cavity wall. To investigate the influence of various dry methods on the apical leakage, 125 palatal roots of extracted human maxillary molar teeth were used. The clinical crown of each tooth was removed at 10 mm from the root apex using a slow-speed diamond saw and water spray. Root canals of the all the specimens were prepared with step-back technique and filled with gutta-percha by lateral condensation method. After removing of the coronal 2 mm of filling material, the access cavities were closed with Cavit$^{(R)}$. Two coats of nail polish were applied to the external surface of each root. Apical three millimeters of each root was resected perpendicular to the long axis of the root with a diamond saw. Class I retrograde cavities were prepared with ultrasonic instruments. Retrocavities were washed with physiologic saline solution and dried with various methods or contaminated with human blood. Retrocavities were filled either with IRM, Super EBA or composite resin. All the specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue solution for 7 days in an incubator at $37^{\circ}C$. The teeth were dissolved in 14 ml of 35% nitric acid solution and the dye present within the root canal system was returned to solution. The leakage of dye was quantitatively measured via spectrophotometric method. The obtained data were analysed statistically using one-way ANOVA and Duncan's Multiple Range Test. To evaluate the influence of various dry methods on the adaptation of filling material over the cavity wall, 12 palatal roots of extracted human maxillary molar teeth were used. After all the roots were prepared and filled, and retrograde cavities were made and filled as above, roots were sectioned longitudinally. Filling-dentin interface of cut surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1. Cavities dried with paper point or compressed air showed less leakage than those dried with cotton pellet in Super EBA filled cavity (p<0.05). However, there was no difference between paper point- and compressed air-dried cavities. 2. When cavities were dried with compressed air, dentin-bonded composite resin-filled cavities showed less apical leakage than IRM- or Super EBA-filled ones (p<0.05). 3. Regardless of the filling material, cavities contaminated with human blood showed significantly more apical leakage than those dried with compressed air after saline irrigation (p<0.05). 4. Outer half of the cavity showed larger dentin-filling interface gap than inner half did when cavities were filled with IRM or Super EBA. 5. In all the filling material groups, cavities contaminated with blood or dried with cotton pellets only showed larger defects at the base of the cavity than ones dried with paper points or compressed air.
Amphipathic compounds (bis-sulfonate Gemini type) with double or triple long chain alkyl groups were prepared by the reaction of N-(long chain acyl)diethanolamine diglycidyl ethers with fatty alcohols, followed by the reaction with propanesultone. All these new Gemini type surfactants were soluble in water and showed much better micelle forming ability and lowering surface tension than sodium dodecyl sulfonate with one sulfonate group. cmc and ${\Upsilon}$ cmc values of the triple-chain compounds were still much smaller than those of the corresponding double-chain compounds with two common alkyl groups. The efficiency of adsorption at the water/air interface ($pC_{20}$) of these surfactants was very high. Their foaming properties, wetting ability toward a felt chip, and lime-soap dispersing requirement (LSDR) were measured. Their initial foaming properties were high but showed good low foam stability, wettability and LSDR.
We developed a digital 3-axis flux-gate magnetometer for magnetic field signal measurement from warship during demagnetizing and degaussing processes. For the magnetometer design, we considered following points; the distance between magnetic field measurement station and magnetometer located under sea is about several 100 m, the magnetometer is exposed to magnetic field of ${\pm}1mT$ during demagnetizing process, and magnetometer is located under the sea about 30 m depth. To overcome long distance problem, magnetometer could be operated on wide input supply voltage range of 16~36 V using DC/DC converter, and for the data communication between the magnetometer and measurement station a RS422 serial interface was employed. To improve perming effect due to the ${\pm}1mT$ during demagnetizing process, magnetometer could be compensated external magnetic field up to ${\pm}1mT$ but magnetic field measuring rang is only ${\pm}100{\mu}T$. The perming effect was about ${\pm}2nT$ under ${\pm}1mT$ external magnetic field. The magnetometer was tested water vessel with air pressure up to 6 bar for the sea water pressure problems. Linearity of the magnetometer was better than 0.01 % in the measuring range of ${\pm}0.1mT$ and noise level was $30pT/\sqrt{Hz}$ at 1 Hz.
