According to the recent increase in air traffic more efficient air traffic control is required. This paper proposes the algorithm for efficient air traffic flow management. Aeronautical traffic environment is different from the common traffic environment since it needs vertical and horizontal separation deviation. In this paper used vincenty's fomula, we calculated distance of route for produced weight that was applied air traffic volume in distance of route using dijkstra algorithm. Then we let aircraft selects a course that minimize to wasting of fuel and time. As a simulation result, so unlilke simply shortest course calculation of existing course calculation algorithm, we confirmed that proposed algorithm in this paper can do air traffic control more efficiently by selecting optimized route.

This paper describes the current research trend and future development direction of autonomous flight of the aircraft. The autonomous flight means that aircraft control system recognize and cope with the emergency situation confronted during the flight by itself. Current research for autonomous flight technology is mainly performed for the application to unmanned air vehicle. Considering advent of future air traffic management system and increasing demand of the unmanned air vehicle application, however, autonomous flight technology required to be combined with future air traffic management system. In this paper, the current air traffic management system and anticipating change in future air traffic management system was investigated and research activities of autonomous flight technology was described as well as future prospect.

According to the recent increase in air traffic a more efficient air traffic flow control is required. This paper proposes the algorithm for efficient air traffic flow control. Aeronautical communication environment is different from the common communication environment since it needs a direct communication between stations (or airplanes) and requires a strict priority for safety message. Moreover, the wide area for basic service causes high propagation delay. In this paper, by using existing CSMA/CA Media Access Control (MAC) protocol, we set the message priorities according to air traffic condition (congestion airport area, approach control area, En route area, and ocean area). This prioritization scheme enables the data transmission with higher access probability. Simulation results confirm that our protocol shows better performance in terms of channel efficiency and success probability compared to exisiting CSMA/CA protocol.
This paper is concerned with air traffic controllers' fatigue and stress that they experience during their daily job particularly as being shift workers. Previous researches reveal that the controllers' fatigue and stress increase by several factors including time spent at work, traffic intensity, visibility, etc. The researches also indicate that air traffic controllers' fatigue and stress can be reasonably surrogated by their heart rate. We set three hypotheses relating the influencing factors and the fatigue and stress represented by the heart rates. Using wrist bands, air traffic controllers' heart rates at various situations are collected at Choongju airport. The hypothetical tests explicitly confirm that the heart rate is highly correlated with the traffic level and the time spent at work. In particular, it be shown that even when handling the same traffic level, air traffic controllers' stress level increases as the time they spent at work increases.

The purpose of this research was to identify expertise in ait traffic control by using cognitive skill analysis for novices and experts in routine and non-routine situations. The result of study was to understand expertise in air traffic control tasks in terms of what cognitive processes are responsible for the expert's high performance levels. The problem solving task was difficult for novices, but performed relatively automatically by experts in a routine situation. The difficulty could indicate the presence of controlled processing. Rather than rules and strategies, novices focused more on environmental factors, which merely increase cognitive load. In a non-routine situation, novices showed that they did not categorize the information consistently and alternative resources were not available for them. Experts, however, performed automatically a task by arranging and organizing information related to problem solving components in contexts without regard to a routine and non-routine situation. Especially experts developed a stable representation and directed alternative resources for air traffic flow and efficiency. Based on the results, cognitive processes of experts could be useful to understand expert performance and analyze the learning process, which imply the necessity of developing expertise systematically.
The purpose of the Air Traffic Control(ATC) system is to provide a safe, efficient flow of air traffic from origin to destination. Therefor, it is important to reduce the operational errors. Most of errors occurs from controllers. So, we suggest the human machine interface scheme for Air Traffic Control system.

Normal Operation Safety Survey (NOSS) is a safety management tool used by air traffic control organizations to measure data related to threats and errors to proactively prevent accidents before they occur. NOSS was developed to be applied to the air traffic control field according to the concept of Line Operation Safety Audit (LOSA) conducted by airlines to reduce human errors in the cockpits. Safety management based on data is crucial for the prevention of control-related accidents, and the competency of observers for this is important for the successful implementation of NOSS. Based on LOSA implementation experiences and expert interviews, this paper introduces the international NOSS methods and discusses the key factors required for effective observation and the implementation methods and implications of NOSS observer training.
This paper describes generic cognitive aspects of the air traffic controller's performance and perceptive activities unveiled through the past literature study. which underlines mental modelling and mental picture presented in the middle of complicated situational awareness and decision making process when air traffic controller comes to determine the distance between aircraft under control to maintain air traffic in a safe, orderly and expeditious way. It also describes human limit in terms of human memory in conjunction with relative workloads and environmental factor. In conclusion, It suggest that ATC authority will take into account the qualitatiive adjustment of training requirement necessary for ATC facility rating and refresher training to allow them more preparedness for better situational awareness and optimal decision making. In this paper controller's behavioral activators affecting their job performance are addressed in perspective of aviation safety.
A trajectory-based scheduling system is proposed for air traffic management using next generation aviation data communication link. Based on the service concept of 4-dimensional trajectory data link (4DTRAD) using air traffic serveices (ATS) datalink Baseline 2, a procedure for trajectory-based operation of an en-route flight is established and described in detail. To mitigate air traffic controllers' workload which might be caused by various and complicated data utilization, a prototype of the scheduling system, which predicts the aircraft trajectory based on the flight intents received by air traffic service system and provides advisory information for air traffic control, was developed. The simulation environment for trajectory based operation was built to validate the scheduling functionality of the prototype.

Many studies have shown that having perception of spatial information is important for air traffic control officer (ATCO) since it helps them understand the current situation and predict the situation it leads to. However, little or no research has been done to investigate if there is any difference at the levels of expertise in perceiving spatial information and predicting a prospective situation. This study investigates the difference between expert and novice ATCO groups in how accurately each group of ATCO perceive spatial information such as position, altitude, speed, and flying direction, and predicting such information they will encounter shortly. In completing a task to watch the movement of airplanes displayed on the computer monitor as a blip, the participants were asked to predict the position, speed, and the altitude of the aircraft in a minute by marking on the sector map. The results show that the expert group performed better in accuracy and had tendency to overestimate on position and altitude; however, no significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of reading a flying direction. Therefore reading a flying direction may not be a reliable indicator to judge expertise of ATCO. But the expert group shows better predicting performance by perceiving spatial information such as airplane's position and altitude with feeling on time. The study suggests that it is important to enhance perceptive skills in ATCO training in improving their expertise in predicting accuracy traffic situation, preventing from air collision, and improving productivity for more efficient air traffic flow. A further study on the relationship between the perception of spatial information and the sense of time in predicting future information and effectiveness as an independent factor would contribute to providing more insights into expertise of ATCOs.
