  • BEIS2 (Biogenic Emissions Inventory System version 2) and BEIS3.12 (BEIS version 3.12) were used to estimate hourly biogenic emissions over South Korea using a set of vegetation and meteorological data simulated with the MM5 (Mesoscale Model version 5). Two biogenic emission models utilized different emission factors and showed different responses to solar radiations, resulting in about $10{\sim}20%$ difference in the nationwide isoprene emission estimates. Among the 11-vegetation classes, it was found that mixed forest and deciduous forest are the most important vegetation classes producing isoprene emissions over South Korea comprising ${\sim}90%$ of the total. The simulated isoprene concentrations over Seoul metropolitan area show that diurnal and daily variations match relatively well with the PAMS (Photochemical Air Monitoring Station) measurements during the period of June 3${\sim}$June 10, 2004. Compared to BEIS2, BEIS3.12 yielded ${\sim}35%$ higher isoprene concentrations during daytime and presented better matches to the high peaks observed over the Seoul area. This study showed that the importance of vegetation data and emission factors to estimate biogenic emissions. Thus, it is expected to improve domestic vegetation categories and emission factors in order to better represent biogenic emissions over South Korea.

  • There have been few reports on the survey of pathological findings of cetaceans stranded on the coast of Japan. This is partly because of lack of the procedures and/or network of systemic sampling of fresh tissues for the pathological study of stranded marine mammals. In contrast, there are a numbers of reports on the cause of illness and death in wild, free-living cetaceans examined in other countries; the commonest cause of death was parasitic and bacterial pneumonia except for entanglement in fishing gear. Anthracosis, lung and hilar lymph nodes polluted by suspended particulate matter in the air, has been recently found in some cetaceans stranded on the coast of Japan. In addition to the data from the chemical analysis of tissues, scientific data obtained from pathological study of stranded marine mammals would be also one of the useful base for the assessment of global environment. Usefulness of metallothionein in the hepatopancreas of crabs as a biomarker of marine pollution monitoring was also discussed in this study.

  • The femtocell is a miniaturized Base Station (BS) with low-cost and low-power using general broadband access network as backhaul. It is expected not only to improve indoor coverage but also to reduce a service charge. However, in IEEE 802,16e femtocells, when the Mobile Station (MS) scans neighbor BSs for handover, it takes a long time due to too many number of femto BSs. Also the size of the neighbor advertisement message that will be periodically sent by a serving BS is increased as the number of target femto BSs for scanning increases. In this paper, we proposed an efficient femtocell scanning scheme, using a triangulation mechanism and a femto BS monitoring scheme to reduce the number of scanning operations and the size of the neighbor advertisement messages. The proposed scheme can avoid wasting air resources and reduce scanning overheads by minimal scanning operation. The simulation results showed that the proposed scheme could improve scanning performance and avoid wasting air resources, compared with the conventional scheme of the IEEE 802.16e system.

  • Geostatistical data or point-referenced data have the information on the monitoring stations of interest where the observations are measured. Practical geostatistical data are obtained from a wide variety of observational monitoring networks that are mainly operated by the Korean government. When we analyze geostatistical data and predict the expectations at unobservable locations, we can improve the reliability of the prediction by utilizing some relevant spatial data obtained from different observational monitoring networks and blend them with the measurements of our main interest. In this paper, we consider the hierarchical spatial linear model that enables us to link spatial variables from different resources but with similar patterns and guarantee the precision of the prediction. We compare the proposed model to a classical linear regression model and simple kriging in terms of some information criteria and one-leave-out cross-validation. Real application deals with Sulfur Dioxide($SO_2$) measurements from the urban air pollution monitoring network and wind speed data from the surface observation network.

  • We considered that characteristics of surface ozone continuous and important meteorological parameters from the data measured 7 air quality continuous monitoring stations during 2 years (1990, 1993) in pusan. The diurnal ozone variation showed a primary peak near 1500LST and a secondary peak of the DP(double peaked) pattern. The episode day was defined when an ozone peak higher than 60 ppb was observed at least one station. The frequency of episode day was 100 (298 hours, 69 days). The frequency of the episode day was higher at Meongryundong and Daeyeondong than other sites and highest in August under control of pacific subtropical high. The high temporatant meteorological parameters accompanying the high episode days. The favorable synoptic environment accompanying ozone episode was distributed to 7 different pattern. These pattern can be taken as a nesessary but not an absolute indicator for predicting the occerrence of an episode.

  • Temporal trends of ozone concentration in Jinju were investigated by using observation data from 3 air quality monitoring stations for the period of 2004~2008. In addition, spatial comparisons of ozone concentration at Jeoguri, upwind and downwind directions of Jinju were investigated between May and September 2009. Annual mean exhibited increasing trends +1.7ppb/yr throughout the study period. In the case of diurnal variation, the lowest ozone concentration was shown from 7 am to 8 am and the highest around 4 pm. The ozone concentrations of Jeoguri station of the south coast were higher than Jinju. In particular, the upwind direction of Jinju had relatively hight ozone concentration

  • This study examines the local oxidation chemistry of reduced sulfur compounds (RSC) in the urban air. The chemical conversion of RSC (such as DMS, $CS_2,\;H_2S,\;DMDS,\;and\;CH_3SH)\;to\;SO_2$ was modeled using a photochemical box model. For our model prediction of the RSC oxidation, measurements were carried out from an urban monitoring station in Seoul (37.6$^{\circ}$N, 127.0$^{\circ}$E), Korea for three separate time periods (Sep. 17~18; Oct 23; and Oct. 27~28, 2003). The results of our measurements indicated that DMS and $H_2S$ were the dominant RSC with their concentrations of 370${\pm}$140 and 110${\pm}$60 pptv, respectively. The conversion of DMDS to $SO_2$ can occur efficiently in comparison to other RSC, but it is not abundant enough to affect their cycles. The overall results of our study indicate that the photochemical conversion of the RSC can contribute ≶ 20% of the observed $SO_2$.

  • It is undertaken systematization of results of satellite and ground observation parameters characterizing a current condition and climatic variability of two selected geographical areas. One of them covers territory of Azerbaijan and another covers a wide area of Caspian See region. Average values and mean square deviations of following values are investigated: outgoing long wave radiation during a day and night (in nebulosity and cloudless). absorbed within a day of the stream of a sunlight of the system in "a terrestrial surface-atmosphere". degree of a covering by clouds of the selected areas during a day and at night, ground temperature values of air. pressure and speed of a wind. Monthly average values of corresponding parameters create a basis of suggested investigations. It has been presented features of a time course of investigated parameters for each month and year in the whole due to the continuously observations since 1982-2000. The scientific problem consists that there are no existed models which authentically would be cover the main aspects of a realities specified changes: they are identified by economic activities. growth of the population and other features of development of a human society or internal fluctuations of biogeophysical/climatic system. Possibilities of predictability of biosphere and climate changes depend on available timely supervision. adequacy of construction of appropriate models. understanding of mechanisms of direct and feedback influences in such complicated systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a security framework for a cluster drones network using the MAVLink (Micro Air Vehicle Link) application protocol based on FANET (Flying Ad-hoc Network), which is composed of ad-hoc networks with multiple drones for IoT services such as remote sensing or disaster monitoring. Here, the drones belonging to the cluster construct a FANET network acting as WTRP (Wireless Token Ring Protocol) MAC protocol. Under this network environment, we propose an efficient algorithm applying the Lightweight Encryption Algorithm (LEA) to the CTR (Counter) operation mode of WPA2 (WiFi Protected Access 2) to encrypt the transmitted data through the MAVLink application. And we study how to apply LEA based on CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) operation mode used in WPA2 for message security tag generation. In addition, a modified Diffie-Hellman key exchange method is approached to generate a new key used for encryption and security tag generation. The proposed method and similar methods are compared and analyzed in terms of efficiency.
