Hollow fiber (HF) membranes are gaining wide interest over flat membranes due to their compaction and high area to surface volume ratio. This work addresses the fabrication of HF from polysulfone (PS) and polyethersulfone (PES) using N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) as solvent in addition to other additives to achieve desired characteristics. The semi-pilot spinning system includes jacketed vessel, four spinneret block, coagulation and washing baths in addition to dryer and winder. Different parameters affecting dry-wet spinning phase inversion process were investigated. Dope compositions of PES, NMP and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) of varying molecular weights as additive were addressed. Some critical parameters of importance were also investigated. Those include dope flow rate, air gap, coagulation & washing baths and drying temperatures. The measured dope viscosity was in the range from 1.7 to 36.5 Pa.s. Air gap distance was adjusted from 20 to 45 cm and coagulation bath temperature from 20 to $46^{\circ}C$. The HF membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and mechanical properties. Results indicated prevalence of finger like structure and average surface roughness from about 29 to 78.3 nm. Profile of stress strain characteristics revealed suitability of the fibers for downstream interventions for fabrication of thin film composite membrane. Different empirical correlations were formulated which enable deeper understanding of the interaction of the above mentioned variables. Data of pure water permeability (PWP) confirmed that the fabricated samples fall within the microfiltration (MF)-ultrafiltration (UF) range of membrane separation.
Desorption equilibrium moisture contents of oak mushroom were measured by the static method using salt solutions at flour temperature levels of 35$\^{C}$, 45$\^{C}$, 55$\^{C}$ and 6$\^{C}$ and five relative humidity levels in the range from 11.0% to 90.8%. EMC data were fitted to the modified Henderson, Chung-Pfost, modified Halsey and modified Oswin models using nonlinear regression analysis. Drying tests far oak mushroom were conducted in an experimental dryer equipped with air conditioning unit. The drying test were performed in triplicate at flour air temperatures of 35$\^{C}$, 45$\^{C}$, 55$\^{C}$ and 65$\^{C}$ and three relative humidities of 30%, 50% and 70% respectively. Measured moisture ratio data were fitted to the selected four drying models(Lewis, Page, simplified diffusion and Thompson models) using stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results of comparing root mean square errors for EMC models showed that modified Halsey was the best model, and modified Oswin models could be available far oak mushroom. The results of comparing coefficients of determination and root mean square errors of moisture ratio for four drying models showed that Page model were found to fit adequately to all drying test data with a coefficient of determination of 0.9990 and root mean square error of moisture ratio of 0.00739.

This study investigates the influence of slit positions on the microclimate temperature/humidity of garments. To design the slits, a market survey was performed to indicate the method to apply the slits, in addition to a literature survey about muscles and body surface variation through body movements. Based on the survey, three positions of slits were selected, shoulder slit, lowback slit, and midback slit, a slit width of 1cm and length to 30cm was used. The results showed that microclimate temperatures/humidity on the back according to the slit positions were in the order of, lowback, midback, and the shoulder. The lowback slit showed the highest effect on the temperature/humidity of a front trunk. Lowback slits affected on localized areas of the glutaeus maximus, erector spinae, and latissimus dorsi. Midback slits affected the back muscle and deltoid. Shoulder slits showed a more significant effect on the localized area of the deltoid versus other localized areas. In the subjective sensations, the lowback slit was cooler, dryer, and more comfortable than the other slits. For the subjective sensations by fabric characteristics, the slit positions correlated at |r|${\geq}.8$ and were significant at p<.001 The results show that the lowback slit has a superior air exchange effect and thermoregulation qualities.

This study was conducted to improve energy efficiency and problems such as clumping and fouling in the glue zone that occur in the moisture content range of 40 to 60% when sewage dehydration residue is directly fed into the dryer. The temperature of the hot air is low at 270~300℃, and the paddle-type flotation method and dehydrated residue are applied to the circulated heat storage media to increase the contact area with the hot air, thereby reducing energy recovery and gas emissions. The water content of the dried residue is 2.7. ~7 .5%, the heat of evaporation of moisture was 608.0~690.6 kcal/kg·H2O, which confirmed an energy saving effect of about 8.8% compared to the heat of evaporation of moisture of 714.5 kcal/kg·H2O when no heat storage media was used.

Background: The purpose of improving the quality of oriental medicinal herbs is to contribute to the improvement of the income of farm. The present study investigated the effect of reasonable drying methods, different storage conditions and packageing materials on quality and stability of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and for developing GAP (good agricultural practice) guide book. Methods and Results: Three methods of drying Scutellaria baicalensis roots produced over two years were used to estimate loss rate owing to drying, storage, and packaging. The methods of drying were categorized into natural drying (36 - 60 h by sunshine), drying with heat dryer (2 - 10 h), or drying with gas bulk dryer (2 - 10 h). After cleaning, and initial drying for a few days under controlled temperature conditions, the second phase of drying was carried out at 35, 45 and $55^{\circ}C$. Changes in hunter color values and quality under the two studied storage treatments (at $20^{\circ}C$ indoors and at $4^{\circ}C$ in a refigerator) were evaluated. Storage period for 60, 120, and 180 days in three packaging materials, PE (polyethylene package), PP (polypropylene gunnysack), and WP (watertight packing paper) were studied. Conclusions: Initial cleaning, reasonable gas drying and hot air drying, and drying in an oven at 35 and $45^{\circ}C$ after cutting the roots resulted in the lowest loss rates in S. Baicalensis root. Hunter color valuse indicated that stroage of dry roots at room temperature was better than PP packaging, and that cold stroage was better than PE packaging for long-term stability.
Two different types of solar collector for farm dryer- the flatplate type and the modified tubular type-were constructed and analyzed on their performances. The transparent plastic film, black painted galvanized iron sheet and black vinyl film were used for the cover and absorber of the flat-plate types. The simplified tubular type was constructed with transparent films for the cover and black vinyl films for the absorber Two elliptical iron rings were used to form a tubular shape through which air could pass. No remarkable differences were found in thermal efficiences between the absorbers made with galvanized iron sheet and black vinyl film. The average thermal efficiencies of the solar collectors were 42.8%(max.48.2%, min.38.2%) for flat plate type and 22.971 (max. 25.4%, min. 14.8%)) for tubular one. The empirical equations were proved to be applicable to the prediction of temperature elevation. The tubular solar heat collector was successfully applied to red peppers drying as a practical farm dryer. The drying rate was almost doubled compared to a conventional sun drying.

In this study, the drying characteristics of medicinal (Ganoderma lucidum, Phellinus linteus) and edible (Pleurotus eryngii, Lentinus edodes) mushrooms were investigated. Their shrinkage ratios, Hunter's color values, and rehydration ratios were evaluated. Mushrooms were cut with rectangular (1 cm) and square ($1{\times}1cm$) shapes, and dried in the room temperature and at $50^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ using hot-air dryer. Initial moisture contents of edible mushrooms were higher than those of medicinal mushrooms, whereas final moisture contents were vice versa. Drying rate was the highest when drying at $70^{\circ}C$ (p<0.05). Moreover the drying rate of square slices was higher than that of rectangular slices (p<0.05). The shrinkage ratios of both medicinal mushrooms and edible mushrooms were the least when drying at $50^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively (p<0.05). The changes of color values were less in the medicinal mushrooms dried in the room temperature than in the hot-air dried medicinal mushrooms (p<0.05). However, in case of edible mushrooms, the changes of color values were less in the hot-air dried mushrooms (p<0.05). Rehydration ratios of medicinal mushrooms dried at $50^{\circ}C$ was the highest (p<0.05). In contrast, rehydration ratios of edible mushrooms was the highest when drying in the room temperature (p<0.05). Thus, the hot-air drying at $50^{\circ}C$ would be suggested as the efficient drying method for both medicinal mushrooms and edible mushrooms.
Gulbi, made of fresh yellow corvenia (Psendosciaena manchurica) that has been salted and dried, is one of the most popular traditional marine foods in Korea. The objective of this study was to develop a method to safely manufacture Gulbi with low levels of oxidation and contamination, by a hot air drying method. Changes in total acidity, pH, salt concentration, thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) and volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) were measured during drying at 30, 35 and $40^{\circ}C$ for 15 days in a hot air-dryer using a semi-dried method. Acidity increased with increasing drying time at all drying temperatures. The pH decreased gradually with increasing drying time. Salt concentration was increased as drying time increased at all drying temperatures due to moisture loss. The VBN increased as drying time increased for all drying temperatures. Data indicate that the drying at $35^{\circ}C$ appears to have a significant sensory and physicochemical advantage in Gulbi products.

This experiment was conducted to confirm the possibility of preparing Sorghum×sudangrass hybrid artificial hay using far-infrared rays in Korea. The machine used in this experiment is a drying device based on far-infrared rays, and is designed to control temperature, air flow rate, far-infrared radiation amount, and air flow speed. The Sorghum×sudangrass hybrids harvested in late September were wilted in the field for one day, and a drying test was performed on them. Conditions for drying were performed by selecting a total of 7 conditions, and each condition induced a change in radiation amount in a single condition (42%) and two steps (4 treatments) and three steps (2 treatments). The speed of the air flow in the device was fixed at 60 m/s, and the run time was changed to 30, 60, and 90 minutes. The average dry matter (DM) content was 82.84%. The DM content was 59.94 and 76.91%, respectively, in drying conditions 1 and 3, which were not suitable for hay. In terms of drying rate, it was significantly higher than 80% in the 5, 6 and 7 treatment, and power consumption was slightly high with an average of 5.7 kw/h. As for the feed value according to each drying condition, the crude protein (CP) content increased as the drying time increased, and there was no significant difference between treatments in ADF, NDF, IVDMD and TDN content. In terms of RFV, treatment 1, which is a single condition, was significantly lower than the complex condition. Through the above results, it was determined that the drying conditions 4 and 5 were the most advantageous when considering the drying speed, power consumption, and quality.
