PURPOSES : This research was a fundamental study on the application of an integral $TiO_2$ solution to asphalt concrete pavement. The integral $TiO_2$ solution was produced in pilot production equipment; application of the integral $TiO_2$ solution to asphalt pavement was conducted to examine the pollution-reducing capability of photocatalytic compounds such as $TiO_2$. The photocatalytic $TiO_2$ reacted with air pollutants, converting them into small amounts of relatively benign molecules. METHODS : In this study, laboratory experiments were conducted using five various testing methods. Tensile strength ratio (TSR) and British pendulum test (BPT) were conducted in order to evaluate the properties of asphalt pavement subsequent to the integral $TiO_2$ solution coating. In addition, methylene blue testing, a measurement of nitrate on the coated pavement, and nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction testing were conducted in order to evaluate photocatalytic reaction. Lastly, a UV-A lamp was used as a light source for photocatalytic reactions. RESULTS : Test results indicated no change in the properties of asphalt pavement following the integral $TiO_2$ solution coating. In order to evaluate the performance of asphalt pavement as a function of $TiO_2$, the moisture susceptibility and skid resistance were investigated. The moisture susceptibility and skid resistance satisfied there quirements related to pavement quality and safety specification. Furthermore, the effects of reduction of air pollution were significantly improved as determined via the methylene blue test and NOx reduction test. The $TiO_2$-paved asphalt specimen exhibited approximately 43% reduction of NOx. CONCLUSIONS : This study has suggested that applying $TiO_2$ rarely impacts asphalt pavement performance measures such as moisture susceptibility and skid resistance, and that its application may be a better means of reducing air pollution. Further studies, such as proper $TiO_2$ dosage rates and compatibility with various pavement types, are required to broaden and generalize its application.

The purpose of this study is to establish effective conditions for controlling $CH_4$, $N_2O$ emission from organic Waste / wastewater treatment processes. Continuous and batch experiments were conducted to treat the micro algae from polluted and eutrophicated lakes through the thermophilic oxic process. The microalgae used were mainly Microcystis sp.(collected from eutrophic lake) and Chlorella sp. (cultured in laboratory) Wasted cooking oil was added by aid-heating source. Physico-chemical components of sludges and microalgae were analyzed. In batch experiments, air supply was changed from 50ml/min to 150ml/min. The temperature. water content and drained water were affected by the air flow rate at initial stage. However, there was almost no influence of air flow rate on them in middle and last stages. At air flow rate of 100ml/min, the degradation rate of organic material was higher than that at other air flow rates. $CO_2$ concentration in exhaust was proportional to the strength of aeration, especially at initial stage when degradation was active. $CH_4$ with low concentration was detected only at starting stage when air diffusion was not enough. $N_2O$ production was not affected by variation of air supply. In continuous experiments no matter what the dewatering methods (with PAC and without PAC) and media (wood chip and reed chip) were changed, $N_2O$ was almost not affected by variation of injected air. Result showed that the reed chips using for lake purification could be used as media for thermophilic oxic process in lake and marshes area. $CO_2$ concentration was not so much affected by the change of dewatering methods and media types. $CH_4$ was not detected in the experimental period. So it can be shown that the thermophilic oxic process had been well operated in wide handling conditions regardless of media and dewatering methods.

This study compared and analyzed the change of air consumption according to water depth with human characteristics and theoretical values. The experimental results are as follows. First, subjects A and B showed similar rise rates depending on the water depth. Second, subject C had a significantly higher rate of increase in air consumption at 25m underwater because the body responded sensitively to deep water pressure, which increased air consumption because breathing was faster than other participants. Third, the subjects D and E showed significantly lower overall air consumption. D and E were 37 and 35 years of age, respectively, the youngest, strongest and most experienced in deep sea diving at the time of military service. Fourth, the average air consumption per minute of the test subjects increased from 5m in water to 1.45 times, 10m in water to 1.85 times, and 20m in water to 2.8 times. This seems to be a result of different experiences, physical fitness, the degree of adaptation of the body to underwater, and different breathing techniques. Lastly, the difference between the experimental average value and the theoretical value appears to be the result of using more or less air than the theoretical value depending on the experiences and physical strength of each of the 5 rescuers, the degree of adaptation of the body underwater, and the method of underwater breathing.

Passive samplers have been used for personal, indoor, and outdoor air monitoring of VOCs at ppb concentrations in community and office environments. The path length of modified passive sampler was shortened, so it was intended to increase an uptake rate. The performance of the modified 3M 3500 organic vapor monitor(OVM) as a tool for assessing exposures to toxic air pollutants in nonoccupational community environments was evaluated using combined controlled test atmospheres of six selected target volatile organic compounds(VOCs): benzene, methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE), chloroform, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, tetrachloroethylene, and toluene. The experiments were conducted by exposing the dosimeters to concentrations of $50{\sim}100{\mu}g/m^3$ on six face velocity(0.00, 0.02, 0.06, 0.12, 0.20, 0.30 m/sec) for 24 hours. If the uptake rate was increased, that means that we could use the passive sampler more effectively. The uptake rates were increased linearly according to reduce the path length. Although the diffusion path length was shortened, the change of uptake rate was within ${\pm}25%$ of theoretical value, indicating that the modified passive sampler(TM) can be effectively used over the range of concentrations and environmental conditions tested with a 24-h sampling period if the face velocities were over 0.12 m/s for 6 components of VOCs. But when the face velocities were less than 0.12 m/s, uptake rates were reduced more than expected values. So, the passive sampler with the shortened path length should be used at indoor or outdoor environment where the face velocity should be over about 0.10 m/s. If the path length was shortened more, the uptake rate was more effected by starvation.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the removal efficiency of fine dusts as the configuration condition of machinery and equipments in Clean Room and to analyze the flowing behaviors of fine dusts as the layout of Clean Room. The layout of the Clean Room was classified into side layout type, 2 center line type and center concentration type layout, and the flow rates used in this research were 0.22m/s, 0.44m/s and 0.80m/s. Dust removal efficiency as layout change was decreased 37% for side layout type, 31% for 2 center line type and 20% for center concentration type layout at the flow rate of 0.22m/s, compared with the state without machinery and equipments in Clean Room. The efficiency was decreased 42% for side layout type, 22% for 2 center line type and 8% for center concentration type layout at the flow rate of 0.44m/s, and decreased 20% for side layout type, 18% for 2 center line type and 10% for center concentration type layout at the flow rate of 0.80m/s. According to the result of dust removal behavior, $0.3{\mu}m,\;1{\mu}m\;and\;3{\mu}m$ dust except for $5{\mu}m$ showed the higher change of the behavior in side layout type than in center concentration type layout due to the change of air flow. It was confirmed that removal behavior depends on the layout of machinery and equipments as the dust size decreases.

The influence of individual size, sediment, gain size, water temperature, salinity and air exposure on burrowing rate was investigated in order to obtain the basic biological data on applying shellfish farm for a sustainable production of ark shell, Scapharca broughtonii (Schrenk). The burrowing rate on individual size 300 minutes after starting the experiment was the highest in the shell length $16.3\;{\pm}\;1.2\;mm$, 97.7%. The highest burrowing rates were 97.0% in $12.8\;{\pm}\;0.8\;mm$, 96.7% in $9.2\;{\pm}\;1.0\;mm$, and 96.3% in $5.9\;{\pm}\;0.7\;mm$. The clams over 6 mm of shell length had burrowing ability and the burrowing rate was not related to the shell size. The burrowing rate depending on the kind of grain at the bottom after 300 minutes was the highest, 98.3%, in the mixture of sand and silt with a ratio of 75:25. The rates were 98% in silt (100%), 97.3% in mixture sand and silt with a ratio of 50:50, 97.3% in sand and silt ratio of 25:75, and 86.3% in sand (100%) in this specific order. On grain size of the soil in the seafloor, the burrowing rates after 300 minutes was at its highest in the group of sand in pore size 1 mm with 85.0%, and the $12\;{\mu}m$ to 1 mm in the grain size was fitted to burrowing of artificial seed. In the case of water temperature, the burrowing rates were at its highest after 300 minutes. In $30^{\circ}C$ group, the rate was 96.7% and in $25^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$, 90.0%. The rates decreased as the water temperature decreased below $15^{\circ}C$. The burrowing rates on salinity were the highest in 30 psu with 93.3% and at 15 psu and below, there was no noticeable change in the burrowing rate. On air exposure, the burrowing rates after 300 minutes were the highest in 1 hour with 93.3%, and remarkably decreased as air exposure time is longer after 12 hours of air exposure.

This study was conducted to evaluate the charcoal tube sampling method for carbon disulfide in the air. Breakthrough was investigated according to flow rate, sampling time and air volume. Also the storage stability by storage method and time was investigated. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The samples stored at room temperature($28.2^{\circ}C$), refrigerator($3.8^{\circ}C$) and freezer($-15.6^{\circ}C$) were analyzed every week to five weeks. At one week storage at room temperature, 3.5% of $CS_2$ in the front section of the charcoal tube migrated into the back section and 57.7% at five weeks. The amount of $CS_2$ in the back section of the charcoal increased continuously by storage time. Migration of $CS_2$ was slow at refrigerator, and stopped occur at freezer. Recovery rate $CS_2$ was 52-82% at room temperature and 92-101% at refrigerator, based on the amount at freezer as a reference value. Thus loss was observed at room temperature. 2. When 6-48 L of fresh air were passed through tubes with spiked amounts of 0.379 and 0.759mg sample, the amounts of $CS_2$ in the back section of charcoal were 5.7-132.4 and 0-92% of the amount in the front section, respectively. The total recovery rates of$CS_2$ from 0.379 and 0.759mg spiked sample were 35.7-101.0% and 9l.3-100.1%, respectively. $CS_2$ loss was observed in 0.379mg spiked sample, but not in 0.759mg spiked sample. In the spiked samples, the amount of $CS_2$ in the back section of charcoal was not affected by flow rate when the air volume was controlled. The amount of $CS_2$ in the back section of charcoal increased over sampling time. And the faster the flow rate, the more the migration amount when the sampling time was the same. 3. A known concentration, 10 ppm of $CS_2$, was produced in a 200 L Tedlar bag. When the air volume was 24, 36, 48 L, breakthrough was 5.8, 16.9, 47.4%, respectively. The sampling flow rate of 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 Lpm did not change the breakthrough rate. Breakthrough increased over sampling time. And the faster the flow rate, the more the breakthrough, when the sampling time was the same.

A newly devised dryer with heated air for the farm products, especially suited for high water content materials such as red pepper, Beer ground, each Vegetables, and Low water content materials such as Rough rice was tested for its thermal efficiency and drying mechanism, and the optimum conditions for each sample were established. In order to improve the present rural situation of drying farm products which entirely dependent upon natural solar radiation, a study upon an economic multi-parpose dryer was conducted. A series of drying tests were run first with red pepper which is one of the important cash crop in Korean farm. And successive series of tests were also run with such proaucts as garlic, sweet potatoes, green onion, radish, Beer ground and Rough rice. The results from the above experiment in drying system with heat dryer can be summarized as follows. 1. Drying duration could be shortened by the tempering effect in high water content crop such as red pepper and beer ground. 2. The color changes occured in around 20% water content in red pepper. The degree of color change was heavily affected by high temperature and short drying duration. 3. The drying condition of red pepper was most favourable at the temperature of 85$^{\circ}C$ in early stage and 80$^{\circ}C$ in middle stage and 75$^{\circ}C$ at the final stage, and with the air rate of 0.81㎥/sec and with sample amount of 200kg. 4. The drying condition of Rough rice(I.R.667) was most favourable at the templature of 40$^{\circ}C$ in early stage and 35$^{\circ}C$ in middle stage and final stage and with the air rate of 0.2㎥/sec and with sample amount of 75kg. 5. In order to prevent the color change of red pepper and to assure high efficiency in drying mechanism, it was necessary to lower the temperature as the time passes in drying process. 6. For vege tables, the drying rate were short in early stage and there was also tempering effect. However, for garlics, Constant drying rates through the early and final stages were observed and there were no tempering effects. 7. The drying condition or capability were as follows; Sample drying temp($^{\circ}C$) amount of material(kg) drying time(hr) Red pepper 85 200 9 Garlic 85 150 7 Sweet potato 85 200 6 Green Onion 85 200 4 Carrot 85 200 4 Radish 90 250 4 Rough rice(I.R.667) 35 75 4 Beer ground 90 320 3 Considering the above result of experiments, if this kind of dryers were distributed Korean farm and the optimun process were practiced in rural area, it would certainly help them improving the qualites of their product preventing their undue losses, and thus assuring an increase of Korean farm income and promotion of their living standards.
$O_3$, one of the air pollutants, has been related increasing morbidity rates due to respiratory damages. To investigate the effect of Ikgieum(益氣飮) on rats induced by exposur of $O_3$, an experimental study was done the changes on white blood cell(WBC), Erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR), $pCO_2$ and, $pO_2$ in Blood. The experimental groups are the Normal group, Control group and Sample group(administered Ikgieum to rats induced by exposur $O_3$). The results were as follows; 1. The change on WBC on rats induced by exposur of $O_3$ were made significant differences in Sample group compared with Cntrol group. 2. ESR were made is significant differences in Sample group compared with Control group. 3. $pCO_2$ and $pO_2$ were made significant differences in Sample group compared with control group.
In present study, the influence of changing combustor pressure on flame stabilization and nitrogen oxide (NOX) emission in the swirl flame with secondary fuel injection was investigated. The combustor pressure was controlled by suction at combustor exit. Pressure index ($P^*=Pabs/Patm$), where Pabs and Patm indicated the absolute pressure and atmosphere pressure, was controlled in the range of 0.7~1.15 for each equivalence ratio conditions. It could be observed that flame stable region became narrower with decreasing equivalence ratio and pressure index. In this combustion system, stable flames were formed until $P^*=\;0.7$. Emission index decreased with decreasing pressure index for overall equivalence ratio conditions and NOx reduction rates were almost identical for $P^*<1$ regardless of equivalence ratio though EINOx values showed different level with change of equivalence ratio for $P^*{\geq}1$. It is also observed that EINOx decreased with increasing secondary fuel injection ratio. Emission index of nitric oxide was controllable by adjusting the changing combustor pressure and injecting secondary fuel and this NOx reduction technology is applicable to industrial furnaces and air conditioning system.
