In this paper, we present a particle-grid blending framework based on a geometric approach to efficiently represent opaque ice spheres with air bubbles. The water temperature is diffused through the grid and the air bubbles represented inside the ice through the particles. To solve the problem of previous methods that generate noisy dissolved air fields, we use levelsets to lighten the algorithm, i.e., the number of active particles and the initial amount of dissolved oxygen can be used to efficiently control the termination conditions of heat diffusion. We also extend the previous dissolved air field method, which only computes near air bubbles, to transparent regions to represent realistic ice spheres, and introduce a levelset-based approach to accurately compute the orientation of particles. As a result, the method presented in this paper is about three times faster than the existing methods and shows visually improved visualization of opaque ice spheres, which can be used in the field of representing physical virtual ice forms.

Self-sensing measurement of piezo inkjet and its application are discussed. The pressure wave inside the inkjet dispenser was measured by current measurement due to self-sensing capability of PZT. The pressure wave measured from current was verified by commercially available laser vibrometer. Here, two applications using self-sensing signal were discussed: waveform design for high speed jetting and condition monitoring. For waveform design, two pulse waveform was designed based on self-sensing signal such that the pressure wave after droplet formation can be minimized. For condition monitoring, self-sensing signal was shown to be effective in detecting air bubble trapped in inkjet printhead.
The combustion characteristics of binary component single droplets hanging at the tip of a quartz fiber are studied experimentally at different environmental pressures and temperatures under normal gravity. Normal Heptane and Normal Hexadecane are selected as two fuels with high difference in boiling temperatures. A falling electrical furnace in a high pressure vessel has provided high temperature environment. Nitrogen and air have formed the environment to study evaporation and combustion, respectively. The initial diameter of droplet was ranging from 1.1 to 1.3 mm. The evaporation and combustion processes were recorded by a high speed digital camera. Some characteristics of droplet burning under different environment conditions and different droplet composition have been investigated. Microexplosion of droplet take places under atmospheric pressure. Bubble formation and its consequent result, incomplete droplet disintegration which presents in all binary compositions, do not appear at high pressure. The initiation of combustion, always takes place in the bottom of droplet due to buoyancy effect of relatively cold fuel vapor. Also, the burning of binary droplet produces soot when the pressure is high.

The Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration were used to treat effluent of secondary municipal wastewater treatment system(Sequencing Batch Reactor). The cross-flow hollow fiber, UF 500,000(NMWC) and MF 0.65$\mu$ membrane were selected as suitable membrane. Short term and long term fouling effect were measured as a factor of flux decrease and the fouling removal effect of mixing air bubble in the penetrant was studied. The removal of anionic sulfactants before and after formation of micelle with several kinds of oil were checked. The test results show that removal of TOC was 70~80%, TN 28% and TP 16%. The decrease of flux due to fouling were 85%(UF) and 90%(MF) after running of 100hrs. The removal of anionic sulfactants were 60~70% notwithstanding micelle or not.
This study was done at 45 medical facilities located in Seoul. The purpose of study is twofold. First, this is to investigate usually who extmines patients for UGI and how many films are used for the examination. Secondly, this is to evaluate image qualities of UGI in terms of representation of lesser curvatures, amount of Ba and air and other criteria for the exam. The results are as follows : 1. In most cases, the UGI is examined by the Dr(67%), by the RT(22%), and together(11%). 2. The total films used ranged from 5 sheets(42%) to 7 sheets(18%). 3. The amount of Ba given to Pt. was mostly $200{\sim}300\;ml$(60%) and gastrografin was used $3{\sim}4\;g$(86.6%) for the examination. 4. For the evaluation of qualities, lack of representation of lesser curvature was 86.7%, lack of Ba and air and bubble formation was 62%, 46.7% and 42.2% respectively.
Experiments of vertically upward steam-water two-phase flow have been carried out in single-side heated narrow rectangular channel with a gap of 3 mm. Flow patterns were identified and classified through visualization directly. Slug flow was only observed at 0.2 MPa but replaced by block-bubble flow at 1.0 MPa. Flow pattern maps at the pressure of 0.2 MPa and 1.0 MPa were plotted and the difference was analyzed. The experimental data has been compared with other flow pattern maps and transition criteria. The results show reasonable agreement with Hosler's, while a wide discrepancy is observed when compared with air-water two-phase experimental data. Current criteria developed based on air-water experiments poorly predict bubble-slug flow transition due to the different formation and growth of bubbles. This work is significant for researches on heat transfer, bubble dynamics and flow instability.
In the silicon wafer polishing process, the mounting stage of silicon wafer on the ceramic carrier block has been using the polishing template which utilizes the porous surface instead of traditional wax mounting method. Here in this article, the experimental study is carried out in order to study the wafer demounting by water jet and the effects of operating conditions such as the water jet flowrate and the number of water jet nozzles on the wafer demounting time. It is found that the measured wafer demounting time is inversely proportional to the water flowrate per nozzle, regardless of number of nozzles used; implying that the stagnation pressure by the water jet impingement is the dominant key factor. Additionally, by using the transparent disk instead of wafer, the air bubble formation and growth is observed under the disk, making the passage of water flow, and subsequently demounting the wafer from the porous pad.

Cold regions with high air density and wind speed attract wind energy producers across the globe exhibiting its potential for wind exploitation. However, exposure of wind turbine blades to such cold conditions bring about devastating impacts like aerodynamic degradation, production loss and blade failures etc. A series of wind tunnel tests were performed to investigate the effect of icing on the aerodynamic properties of wind turbine blades. A baseline clean wing configuration along with four different ice accretion geometries were considered in this study. Aerodynamic force coefficients were obtained from the surface pressure measurements made over the test model using MPS4264 Simultaneous pressure scanner. 3D printed Ice templates featuring different ice geometries based on Icing Research Tunnel data is utilized. Aerodynamic characteristics of both the clean wing configuration and Ice accreted geometries were analysed over a wide range of angles of attack (α) ranging from 0° to 24° with an increment of 3° for three different Reynolds number in the order of 105. Results show a decrease in aerodynamic characteristics of the iced aerofoil when compared against the baseline clean wing configuration. The key flow field features such as point of separation, reattachment and formation of Laminar Separation Bubble (LSB) for different icing geometries and its influence on the aerodynamic characteristics are addressed. Additionally, attempts were made to understand the influence of Reynolds number on the iced-aerofoil aerodynamics.
Objective : Infection and bone resorption are major complications of cranioplasty and have been well recognized. However, there are few clinical series describing the epidural fluid collection (EFC) as complication of cranioplasty. This study was planned to identify the predictive factors and fate of EFC after cranioplasty. Methods : We reviewed retrospectively the demographic, clinical, and radiographic data in 59 patients who underwent a first cranioplsty following decompressive craniectomy during a period of 6 years, from January 2004 to December 2009. We compared demographic, clinical, and radiographic factors between EFC group and no EFC group. The predictive factors associated with the development of EFC were assessed by logistic regression analysis. Results : Overall, 22 of 59 patients (37.3%) suffered from EFC following cranioplasty. EFC had disappeared (n=6, 31.8%) or regressed (n=6, 31.8%) over time on follow up brain computed tomographic (CT) scans. However, 5 patients (22.7%) required reoperation due to symptomatic and persistent EFC. Predictive factors for EFC were male [odds ratio (OR), 5.48; 95% CI, 1.26-23.79], air bubbles in the epidural space (OR, 12.52; 95% CI, 2.26-69.28), and dural calcification on postoperative brain CT scan (OR, 4.21; 95% CI, 1.12-15.84). Conclusion : The most of EFCs could be treated by conservative therapy. Air bubble in the epidural space and dural calcification are proposed to be the predictive factors in the formation of EFC after cranioplasty.
Two nozzles with different size (Figure 2) were particularly designed to supply air through the swirl core into the central part of the liquid stream in the same parallel direction to produce a well-mixed air and water in the whirl chamber as spray liquid in bubble formation. Atomization was attempted to improve by using both the preliminary break-up process with less viscosity and less surface tension in the whirl chamber and the effects of increased frequency of the band of drops with the raised ambient air density in front of the nozzle orifice. The volumetric ratio between spray liquid and air on four levels was used to investigate the effects of air as a component of the mixture on atomization. The results of the experiment were summarized as follows; Droplet size became progressively finer as the operating pressure was increased in the range of $0.70kg/cm^2$ to $6.33kg/cm^2$, which was similar to the previous works. The new atomizing mechanism so-called 'air-center nozzle' gave a narrower range in droplet size distribution with smaller volumetric median diameter (VMD) than that of the existing spray system at a given pressure, which showed the possibility of improvement of atomization in a certain limit. The volumetric median diameter produced by the new atomizing mechanism was decreased from the central region toward the exterior edges across the spray pattern.
