An Experimental Study on the Melting of Horizontal Ice - Bar Located Concentrically in the Cylinder (수평원관속에 동심으로 놓여있는 얼음 봉의 융해현상에 관한 보험적 연구)

  • The melting phenomena of horizontal cylindrical ice-bar immersed in water and air concentrically in the cylinder are experimentally investigated for the temperature range from $3.5^{\circ}C\;to\;2.5^{\circ}C$. The shapes of the melting ice-bar are recorded photographically by the shadowgraph method. The shadowgraphs of the melting ice-bar show that water adjacent to the bar flows upward for the temperature range from $3.5^{\circ}C\;to\;5.8^{\circ}C$ while above $5.8^|\circ}C$ the flow is downward direction. The local and average Nusselt numbers are obtoined with the recorded shadowgraphs and comparator. Melting shapes of the ice-bar in the air show the vortex motion in the bottom portion of the bar, whereas no vortex motion appears in the bottom portion when the bar is melted in the water.

Spray Characteristics of Air-assisted Vortex Nozzle at Low Pressure Condition (공기보조식 와류 노즐의 저압 분무특성)

  • A nozzle with vortex generator was used to develop the low pressure nozzle with high atomization performance and the nozzle atomized the liquid by centrifugal shear forces. In order to analyze the atomization characteristics, a shadowgraphy method was used and the measurement of droplet size was performed by using laser diffraction analyzer. The liquid injection pressure was fixed as 0.03 bar which is very low pressure and the gas injection pressures were changed from 0 bar to 2.0 bar. As a result, the breakup was achieved at the air injection pressure of 0.25 bar and over. The nozzle with the orifice diameter of 0.4 mm and the orifice gap of 0.25 mm presented small droplet diameters under 50 at the air injection pressure of 0.75 bar.

  • The spray characteristics of air-assisted fuel injection and its effects on the engine combustion was investigated in this study. The atomization characteristics of a Bosch fuel injector inserted into the air-assist adapter were measured using particle motion analysis system. Droplet size decreased with air supplied and fine spray with below $60\mu\textrm{m}$ of SMD was acquired under the conditions of air-assist pressure over 0.5bar. The lean combustion performance of a 1.8L DOHC engine equipped with air-assist adapters was tested on the dynamometer. When the assistant air pressure is 1.0bar, lean limit recorded the highest value, and CO, HC emissions were decreased at the pressure over 1.0bar.

  • A preliminary experimental study of new concept air hybrid engine, which stores compressed air in the tank during braking and re-use it to propel vehicle during crusing or acceleration, was carried out in this study. A single cylinder engine was modified to realize the concept of air hybrid engine. Independent variable valve lift system was adopted in one of the exhaust valves to store the compressed air into the air tank during compression period. An air injector module was installed in the place of spark plug, and the stored compressed air was supplied during the expansion period to realize air motoring mode. For air compression mode, the tank with volume of 30 liter could be charged up to more than 13 bar. By utilizing this stored compressed air, motoring work of 0.41 bar of IMEP(Indicated mean effective pressure) at maximum can be generated at the 800rpm conditions, which is higher than the case of normal idle condition by 1.1 bar of IMEP.

  • A numerical study has been performed on flow characteristics in a domestic refrigerator whose size is $540mm{\times}1,530mm{\times}680mm$, considering existence of a fan and evaporator. The flow field has been simulated with the low Reynolds number $k-\bar{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model and SIMPLE algorithm based on the finite volume method. The region of fan which makes driving force for cold air distribution was modeled as a region in which momentum sources are generated uniformly. The concept of the distributed pressure resistance was applied to describe the momentum loss from evaporator. The result showed that the rate of cold air distribution into freezing room and cold storage room was almost 7 : 3.

  • Fuel spray in the MPI gasoline injector and its atomization characteristics are investigated with both macroscopic and microscopic visualization systems. The Bosch injector is inserted into an air-assist spray adapter which is designed to be fabricated and assembled easily. particle motion analysis system is used to measure the SMD of injector, where the assistant air pressure is varied from 0.0 to 1.5bar with fuel pressure 2.8bar. Droplet size decreased with higher air pressure and fine fuel spray with below $60{\mu}m$ of SMD is acquired at the assistant air pressure over 0.5bar.

  • AS City traffic means, the electric railway of the role is overwhelming with recognizing good merits of safety, no environment disruption and accurate destination time. Currently, Korea subway are running about 290km through eight subway lines. The latest constructed subway had been made by imperoved matherials which is going on improving. Therefore, we researched this project to keep up facilites easily, repress a leakge current and reduse install cost and repair time in changing facility at overhead Contact wire system because of arc by reforming construction plan about Expansion Joint and Air Section which is regarded as weak point when facilities are fixed and maintianed of Rigid Trolley bar System. as above we can contribute various part to making useful O.C.S(overhead contact wire system)

Detecting Method for Broken Rotor Bar of Induction Motor by Measuring Air-gap Flux (공극자속 측정에 의한 유도전동기 회전자의 Broken Bar 검출기법)

  • In this paper, a new approach for detecting broken rotor bars in a squirrel-cage induction motor is proposed. The air-gap flux variation analysis was done using search coils inserted in stator slots when broken rotor bar occurs. An accurate modeling and analysis of air-gap flux variation in the induction motor are developed using finite-element (FE) software packages, and measurement of the flux are made using search coils. The simulation was done for the induction motor with 380 [V], 5 [HP], 4 Poles, 1,742 [rpm] ratings using the commercial FE analysis tool. The simulation and experiment results can be useful for detecting the broken rotor bar of an induction motor.
