  • This study is to measure the change of the $CO_2$ and floating dust concentration depending on the volume of the ventilation and the state of on/off the ventilation for the estimation of the air pollution in classroom. The results could be summarized as follows: the test cell was the two full scaled model and the one is set up with ventilation system another was not. the volume of classroom is 170.1m3 and the number of persons are 35. 1)when the ventilation system was not installed, The experimental results of the $CO_2$ concentration showed the average of 2,150ppm and the maximum of 2,740ppm in the classroom. This was the higher than 1,000ppm, the standard value of ASHRAE and the enforcement regulations of School Sanitation Code in Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development, 1000ppm. The $CO_2$ concentration was relatively increasing during school hours. 3)In case of the volume of ventilation of $800m^3$/h, the $CO_2$ concentration of classroom showed the average of 962 ppm and the maximum of 1,380 ppm. This was higher than 1,000ppm, the standard of ASHRAE and the enforcement regulations of School Sanitation Code in Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development. 4)The floating dust(PM10) was the maximum of 0.52 mg/$m^3$, the minimum of 0.25 mg/$m^3$, and the average of 0.32 mg/$m^3$ in case of the ventilation system off. Those were higher than the standard value 0.15 mg/$m^3$. In case of the ventilation system on, the floating dust(PM10) was the maximum of 0.174 mg/$m^3$ , the minimum of 0.048 mg/$m^3$, and the average of 0.078 mg/$m^3$. These were the lower than 0.15 mg/$m^3$, the standard of the enforcement regulations of School Sanitation Code in Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development. 5)The concentrations of $CO_2$ and PM10 were largely depending on the number of students and the ventilation system, The installation of the ventilation system is necessary for the amenity environment and the management of the indoor air quality.

  • R-410a and R-407c which have the best potential among R-22 alternatives were tested as drop-in refrigerants against a set of R-22 baseline tests. The performance evaluations were carried out in a psychometric calorimeter test facility using the residential spilt type air conditioner under the ARI rating conditions. Except the lubricant and hand-operated expansion valve, the other parts of the air conditioner were the same with the commercial system. Performance characteristics were measured; compressor power, capacity, VCR, mass flow rate and COP. The tests showed that R-407c can be directly charged into the current refrigeration system because its vapor pressure and other thermochemical properties are similar to those of R-22. However, it is required to change the volume flow rate of compressor in order to achieve the volumetric capacity of R-22. This results from its relatively small VCR and capacity. Meanwhile, R-410a has vapor pressure values too high to be substituted for the current system and this resulted relatively low COP of R-410a compared to that of R-22.

  • ICAO recommended that airspace monitoring and periodic safety assessments in each Contracting State ensure the stability of the airspace, since reducing the aircraft lateral and vertical separation intervals would rather increase the risk of collision. The target level of safety of the AKARA-FUKUE Corridor at the southern end of Jeju was 247×10-9. In simple comparison, this means that the risk of an aircraft collision in this area (international safety standards, 5.0×10-9) is about 50 times higher. The scope of this study is to organize the concept of terms, analyze the air traffic volume, the current status of navigational safety facility usage fees, and investigations of an aircraft collision risk in Jeju southern air corridor. Analyzing government policies and overseas evaluations, revising some of the existing contents, presenting some of the additional contents of new routes, and changing the instrument procedure for Korean-Chinese routes, change of arrive/departure route between Incheon Airport and Shanghai Airport, reduce the risk of aircraft collisions. We hope to restore airspace sovereignty, contribute to policies for the government to take the lead in solving this problem, and expect stability and operational efficiency in air traffic.

  • Head-out water immersion induces marked increase in the cardiac stroke volume. The present study was undertaken to characterize the stroke volume change by analyzing the aortic blood flow and left ventricular systolic time intervals. Ten men rested on a siting position in the air and in the water at $34.5^{circ}C$ for 30 min each. Their stroke volume, heart rate, ventricular systolic time intervals, and aortic blood flow indices were assessed by impedance cardiography. During immersion, the stroke volume increased 56%, with a slight (4%) decrease in heart rate, thus cardiac output increased ${\sim}50%.$ The slight increase in R-R interval was due to an equivalent increase in the systolic and diastolic time intervals. The ventricular ejection time was 20% increased, and this was mainly due to a decrease in pre-ejection period (28%). The mean arterial pressure increased 5 mmHg, indicating that the cardiac afterload was slightly elevated by immersion. The left ventricular end-diastolic volume index increased 24%, indicating that the cardiac preload was markedly elevated during immersion. The mean velocity and the indices of peak velocity and peak acceleration of aortic blood flow were all increased by ${\sim}30%,$ indicating that the left ventricular contractile force was enhanced by immersion. These results suggest that the increase in stroke volume during immersion is characterized by an increase in ventricular ejection time and aortic blood flow velocity, which may be primarily attributed to the increased cardiac preload and the muscle length-dependent increase in myocardial contractile force.

  • Flocculation and flotation are used as pretreatment steps prior to the reverse osmosis (RO) process. During seawater treatment, high temperature can change the water chemistry of seawater during the process of coagulation. It also affects bubble volume concentration (BVC) and bubble characteristics. Coagulants such as alum and ferric salts at $40^{\circ}C$ can also change flux rates in the seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) process. In this study, the bubble characteristics in dissolved air flotation (DAF), used as a SWRO pretreatment process, were studied in synthetic seawater at $20^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$. The flux of an RO membrane was monitored after dosing the synthetic seawater with coagulants at different temperatures. Results showed that BVC increases as the operating pressure increases and as the salt concentration decreases. The bubble size released at $40^{\circ}C$ is far smaller than that at $20^{\circ}C$The addition of a ferric salt is effective for turbidity removal in synthetic seawater at $20^{\circ}C$; it is more effective than alum. When synthetic seawater was dosed with a ferric salt, the RO membrane flux increased by 27 % at $40^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents a numerical study on the constrained melting of a phase change material inside various capsule containers, using water and HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) as a PCM and a capsule material, respectively. The computations are based on an iterative, finite-volume numerical procedure that incorporates a single-domain enthalpy formulation for simulation of the phase change phenomenon. Using the enthalpy method, various capsule configurations, such as a capsule from E company, an isochoric cylinder capsule, an equivalent diameter sphere capsule, and an isochoric sphere capsule, are used to investigate the effect of capsule configurations on the charging and discharging performance. A transient three-dimensional model is used for each case. The simulation results show that the capsule from E company results in a higher melting and solidification rate of the PCM, than the other capsule configurations considered in this research.

  • This study is intended to analyze and evaluate the effects of Seomjingang Dam and Soyanggang Dam Catchment on water circulation in order to examine water balance change of watershed by climate change. Obviously, air temperature and precipitation showed a gradually increasing trend for the past 30 years; evapotranspiration vary in areas and increasing annual average air temperature is not always proportional to increasing evapotranspiration. Based on Penman-FAO24, climatic water balance methods and measured values are shown to be significantly related with each other and to be available in Korea. It is certainly recognized that increasing annual rainfall volume leads to increasing annual runoff depth; for fluctuation in annual runoff rates, there are some difference in changes in measured values and calculated values. It is presumably early to determine that climate changes has a significant effect on runoff characteristic at dam catchment. It is widely known that climate changes are expected to cause many difficulties in water resources and disaster management. To take appropriate measures, deeper understanding is necessary for climatological conditions and variability of hydrology and to have more careful prospection and to accumulate highly reliable knowledge would be prerequisites for hydrometric network.

  • Engine torque, specific fuel consumption and MBT spark advance of a domestic automotive engine fueled with methanal-gasoline blends or straight methanal were studied under steady state condition and compared to those obtained with gasoline. The effects of adding methanal to gasoline on engine performance were studied with or without any carburetor modification. At first, the engine was operated without any modification. Next, the diameters of metering orifices in carburetor were modified to give the same excess air factor regardless of fuel type under each fixed engine operating condition. Finally, the diameters of metering orifices in carburetor were modified to give the same excess air factor for 15% mixture of methanal in gasoline by volume as for gasoline with standard metering orifices in carburetor. The effects of adding methanal to gasoline on engine torque, specific energy consumption and MBT spark advance can be explained on the basis of change in stoichiometry caused by the addition of methanal to gasoline.

  • Performance of a VM heat pump is considerably affected by various losses, such as enthalpy dump, reheat loss, pumping loss, conduction loss and shuttle loss. A second-order analysis model of VM heat pumps, which allows consideration of the major losses, was presented. Actual heat transfer rates for heat exchangers were calculated from the heat transfer rates obtained by the adiabatic analysis and various losses. New effective temperatures of heat exchangers were calculated from the actual heat transfer rates and the mean heat transfer coefficients until there was no appreciable change in the effective temperatures. Effects of design parameters, such as phase angle, swept volume ratio, regenerator length and speed on heating capacity, cooling capacity and COP were shown.
