The objective of this research was to establish a domestically available cooling storage technique by cold-air in winter, using winter cool air ventilation fur determining rough rice cooling method in the storage and dry bin. The rough rice storage characteristics of two test conditions, winter cool-air ventilation storage and ambient temperature storage, were evaluated from January to July 2001, using a storage and dry bin of 300-ton capacity. Results of this research are as follows: Grain temperature was from $-5.1\~-8.5^{\circ}C$ after winter cool-air ventilation, and grain initial temperature for ambient temperature bin storage was $0.3\~1.9^{\circ}C$. Moisture content of rough rice decreased from $0.28\;to\;0.93\%$ and from $1.53\;to\;1.92\%$ to compare with original moisture contents for winter cool-air ventilation, and for ambient temperature bin storage, respectively. Broken ratio of brown rice from winter cool-air ventilation bin increased from $0.16\;to\; 0.92\%$, and brown rice broken ratio was from $2.24\;to\;2.86\%$ for ambient temperature bin storage to compare with initial broken ratio. Hardness of stored rice increased along storage period increase in alt storage methods, and cooling bin storage increased rice hardness of 0.271kgf: this increasing was lower then the other methods from 0.059 to 2.239kgf. Germination rates were decreased approximately 9.03, 3.14 and $3.20\%$ for upper, middle, and bottom of ventilating winter air bin, respectively, and germination rates of 2.70, 3.47 and $4.14\%$ were approximately decreased for upper, middle, and bottom parts of ambient temperature bin storage, respectively.
Under the assumption that the temperature of one location is closely related to land use characteristics around that location, this study is carried out to assess the impact of urban land use patterns on air temperature. In order to investigate the relationship, GIS techniques and statistical analyses are utilized, after spatially connecting urban land use data in Seoul Metropolitan Area with atmospheric data observed at Automatic Weather Stations (AWS). The research method is as follows: (1) To find out important land use factors on temperature, simple linear regressions for a specific time period (pilot study) are conducted with urban land use characteristics, (2) To make a final model, multiple regressions are carried out with those factors and, (3) To verify that the final model could be appled to explain temperature variations beyond the period, the model is extensively used for 5 different time periods: 1999 as a whole; summer in 1999; 1998 as a whole; summer in 1998; August in 1998. The results of simple linear regression models in the pilot study show that transportation facilities and open space area are very influential on urban air temperature variations, which explain 66 and 61 percent of the variations, respectively. However, the other land use variables (residential, commercial, and mixed land use) are found to have weak or insignificant relationship to the air temperatures. Multiple linear regression with the two important variables in the pilot study is estimated, which shows that the model explains 75 percent of the variability in air temperatures with correct signs of regression coefficients. Thus, it is empirically shown that an increase in open space and a decrease in transportation facilities area can leads to the decrease in air temperature. After the final model is extensively applied to the 5 different time periods, the estimated models explain 68 ∼ 75 percent of the variations in the temperatures is significant regression coefficients for all explanatory variables. This result provides a possibility that one air temperature model for a specific time period could be a good model for other time periods near to the period. The important implications of this result to lessen high air temperature we: (1) to expand and to conserve open space and (2) to control transportation-related factors such as transportation facilities area, road pavement and traffic congestion.
This study was conducted experimentally to investigate the surface temperature of the heat sink, the air temperature in the flow channel and the sample temperature by changing the channel number of channel type heat sink and the air flow rate when heating and cooling the bio sample. The target temperature of the sample was 15℃ or less as the minimum value and 82℃ or more as the maximum value. In this study, the channel number of the heat sink(N = 1, 2, 4, 5, 10) and the air flow rate(Q=25, 42, 54m3/min) were varied. The bio sample was replaced with water, and the volume of water is 4mL. The size of the heat sink is 80x73x150mm and the material is aluminum. When cooling the sample, the surface temperature, the air temperature and the sample temperature were highly dependent on the number of channels and the flow rate. However, when the sample is heated, the surface temperature, air temperature and sample temperature do not depend on the number of channels and the flow rate. It was found that the conditions for satisfying the minimum temperature of 15℃ or less when cooling the sample were the number of channels N≥5 and the flow rate Q≥42m3/min. When heating the sample, the conditions to satisfy the maximum temperature of 82℃ or more are the number of channels N≤5 and the air flow rate Q≤42m3/min.
We analyzed diurnal variations in the surface air temperature using the high density urban climate observation network of Daegu in summer, 2013. We compared the time elements, which are characterized by the diurnal variation of surface air temperature. The warming and cooling rates in rural areas are faster than in urban areas. It is mainly due to the difference of surface heat capacity. In addition, local wind circulation also affects the discrepancy of thermal spatiotemporal distribution in Daegu. Namely, the valley and mountain breezes affect diurnal variation of horizontal distribution of air temperature. During daytimes, the air(valley breeze) flows up from urban located at lowlands to higher altitudes of rural areas. The temperature of valley breeze rises gradually as it flows from lowland to upland. Hence the difference of air temperature decreases between urban and rural areas. At nighttime, the mountains cool more rapidly than do low-lying areas, so the air(mountain breeze) becomes denser and sinks toward the valleys(lowlands). As the result, the air temperature becomes lower in rural areas than in urban areas.
This paper performed to predict vertical temperature distribution and air flow near cold heat source in the mass merchandising store. At the height of 150 cm, the vertical air temperature difference between the results of CFD and of measurement field showed $10\%$ near the refrigeration zone and $8.8\%$ near the freezing zone. Therefore, it regarded as appropriate for the using CFD to investigate airflow near the heat sources. The 3 kinds of CFD model were divided by the disposition of diffuser/exhaust and diffuser air temperature. At the refrigeration and freezing zone in the Model 2 and 3, the temperature difference between the front and the back of human model were showed $6.8^{\circ}C\;and\;3.9^{\circ}C$ with diffuser air temperature $17^{\circ}C$ and were showed $6.8^{\circ}C$ and $4^{\circ}C$ with diffuser air temperature $19^{\circ}C$.
An experiment using high preheated air in a turbulent non-premixed flame was performed to investigate the effects of high preheated air on the combustion characteristics. Combustion using high preheated and diluted air with flue gas is a new technology which enables NO emission to be reduced. In this study, Na was used as diluent and propane as fuel. Combustion characteristics, especially the distributions of the flame temperature, NO concentration and OH radical intensity were examined under the condition of 300 K, 600 K, 1000 K in terms of the combustion air temperature, and also under the condition of the dilution level from 21% to 13% in terms of oxygen concentration. As the preheated air temperature increased, it appeared that the flame length became shorter, maximum flame temperature increased, the reaction region moved to upstream, and NO concentration increased, but the flame temperature's fluctuation was reduced. In opposite, it was shown with decrement of oxygen concentration at the maximum temperature that both maximum value and the gradient of the flame temperature decreased, and NO emission also decreased considerably, but its fluctuation became larger, being inclined to be unstable.
The purpose of this study is to predict outlet temperature and humidity through underground pit for the reduction of cooling load and heating load. Commonly, the underground temperature is lower than outdoor in summer but the reverse happens in winter. When the outdoor average air temperature is $25.7^{\circ}C$ during cooling periods, the average outlet air temperature through underground pit is $23.6^{\circ}C$ with 3 m-depth and 60m-length and is $22.2^{\circ}C$ with 3 m-depth and 150 m-length. When the outdoor average air temperature is $4.9^{\circ}C$ during heating periods, the average outlet air temperature through underground pit is $7.7^{\circ}C$ with 3m-depth and 60 m-length and is $10.8^{\circ}C$ with 3 m-depth and 150 m-length. The outlet air temperature is affected by more length than depth of underground pit. The diffusion ratio of outdoor humidity is $-7.7\times10^{-8}kg/s$ in cooling periods and $9.29\times10^{-7}kg/s$ in heating periods.
This study was conducted to classify agroclimatic zones in South Korea. To classify the agroclimatic zones, such climatic factors as amount of rainfall from April to May, amount of rainfall in October, monthly average air temperature in January, monthly average air temperature from April to May, monthly average air temperature from April to September, monthly average air temperature from December to March, monthly minimum air temperature in January, monthly minimum air temperature from April to May, Warmth Index were considered as major influencing factors on the crop growth. Climatic factors were computed from monthly air temperature and precipitation of climatological normal year (1981~2010) at 1 km grid cell estimated from a geospatial climate interpolation method. The agroclimatic zones using k-means cluster analysis method were classified into 6 zones.
Korean farmers have purchased agricultural dryer and low temperature storage system apart. In this study, the system was designed and constructed to investigate the practical application possibility of the air to air heat pump as drying and low temperature storage system for agricultural products with providing basic data. The performance and drying characteristics of the system evaluated by drying red pepper. The value of coefficient of performance of the system for heating was from 1.8 to 2.2 when ambient air temperature varied from 13$^{\circ}C$ to 23$^{\circ}C$. For operating the heat pump as dryer for drying red pepper by setting three drying air temperature of 50, 55 and 60$^{\circ}C$, specific moisture extraction rates meaning amount of energy consumption for removing moisture of 1kg from red pepper were 1.095, 1.017 and 1.094 kg$_{water}$/kWh, respectively. The drying period up to moisture ratio of 0.02 were 31, 26 and 21 hour, respectively. The lightness, redness, yellowness and chroma differences of red pepper dried by the heat pump dryer were lowered than those of red pepper dried by conventional heated air dryer except for yellowness difference at drying air temperature of 60$^{\circ}C$.
In this paper, optimal control strategy of the air-conditioning system with slab thermal storage was investigated based on the optimal control theory. An optimal heat output to the plenum chamber and the air-conditioned room was determined based on two kinds of criterion functions. The first one requires small deviation in room air temperature from a set-point value and low energy consumption. It is shown that the optimized control is to store heat through the whole storage time and to increase storage rate gradually with time. As the second case, a criterion that both a deviation of operative temperature from a set-point temperature and the energy consumption should be minimized was adopted. The room air temperature was a little high and the cooling load during storage time was reduced, compared with the results when a criterion function considering only the room air temperature is used.
