  • The phenomena of global warming has led to an increase in the average air temperature in temperate climates. Springtime frost damage is becoming more common, and after a period of dormancy, damage to buds, blooms, and developing fruits is greater significant than damage from low winter temperatures. Peaches are a crucial crop among moderate fruits. Spring frost damage in peaches can have a negative effect on crop growth, yield, and quality. It is noteworthy that these plants have evolved defenses against spring frost damage while being exposed to a variety of low temperatures in the early spring. In this current review, recent research advancements on spring frost damage avoidance in peaches were deliberated. Additionally, adaptive mechanisms of peach, such as deacclimation and reacclimation, were emphasized. Moreover, the emerging advancements using various omics approaches revealed the peach physiology and molecular mechanisms comprehensively. Furthermore, the use of chemical products and understanding the spring frost mechanisms through the use of environmental chamber temperature stimulation and infrared thermography studies were also discussed. This review is essential groundwork and paves the way to derive and design future research for agronomists and horticulturalists to overcome the challenges of spring frost damage avoidance and crop management in these circumstances.

  • To use the earth heat for the livestock housing, an underground heat exchanger is developed and pipes are layed in the depth of 2.5m under the ground. The pipes have two different kinds of diameter (200mm, 100mm) and materials (PE, PVC). The results of heating effect in winter and spring are following. The temperature in different soil depth varies from 5$^{\circ}C$ by 1.5m depth, to 9$^{\circ}C$ by 3.5m. So it should be better to have the depth greater than 2.5m. The difference of air temperature between the inside and outside pipe was 9.9 Kelvin(K) with 200mm diameter and 13.4K with the 100mm diameter with the same material in winter. By the lower outside temperature from -7.2$^{\circ}C$, it could keep the air temperature above 6$^{\circ}C$ through the 100mm diameter pipe. The heating performance was 593 W with 200mm diameter, 118W with 100mm diameter (PE), and 115W with 100m diameter (PVC), respectively. As the outside temperature varies from -1.5$^{\circ}C$ to 18.6$^{\circ}C$ in early spring, the air temperature through the pipes show 4∼8$^{\circ}C$. While the difference between maximum and minimum outside temperature is 14K, the one through the pipes could be reduced by 2K. Pipes with small diameter can more reduce the difference than the pipe with larger diameter.

  • In this study, using 16 ORA-IP (Ocean Reanalysis Intercomparison Project) data, we investigated spatial and temporal changes of net surface heat flux in the East Asian seas and presented a new ensemble net surface heat flux index. The ensemble net surface heat flux index is produced considering the data distribution and the standard deviation of each ORA-IP. From the correlation analysis with air temperature averaged over the Korean Peninsula, ensemble net heat flux around the Korea Strait shows the highest correlation (0.731) with a 3 month time lag. For the correlation study regarding precipitation over the Korean Peninsula, it also shows significant correlation especially in winter and spring seasons. Similar results are also found in comparison with climate indices (AO, PDO, and NINO3.4), but ensemble net surface heat flux data in winter season reveals the strongest correlation patterns especially with winter temperature and spring precipitation.
