An air levitation type wafer transfer system is composed of control and transfer track. Wafer transfer speed is mainly affected by air velocity of propulsion nozzle. In this study, the propulsion force coefficient was evaluated experimentally for the nozzle with 0.5mm, 0.8mm, and 1.0mm diameter. As a result, the propulsion force was largest in the smallest size of nozzle at same air velocity. The propulsion force coefficient of nozzle increases with reducing diameter of nozzle. This increment of propulsion force coefficient was enlarged remarkably at the 0.5mm diameter of nozzle.
The air-center nozzles, being specially designed to supply air into the central part of water stream at seven levels of air volume, were tested for spray deposit pattern and flow-rate at each of the twelve pressure levels ranging from $0.35kg/cm^2$ (5 psi) to $6.33kg/cm^2$ (90 psi) in comparison with those of standard nozzles. The air-center nozzles produced comparatively more stable spray deposit patterns than the standard nozzles. The spray deposit patterns of the air-center nozzle were concentrated gradually in the central region with increase of air volume as a component of spray mixture. The degree of concentration of spray deposit on the central region from the air-center nozzle was higher than that of the standard nozzle, which suggested the possibility of obtaining farther travel distance spraying system at a given performance level. The flow rate of the air-center nozzle was not as much as that of the standard nozzle due to the air within certain limits. The rate of decrease of water flow became smaller with an increase in operating pressure although it changed rapidly in the beginning stage, ranging up to two or three percent of the air flow rate due to the compressive properties of air.
The atomization characteristics of the dual air supplying two-fluid nozzle were investigated experimentally using PIV and PDA systems. The twin-fluid nozzle is composed of three main parts: the feeding injector to supply fluid that is controlled by a PWM (pulse-width modulation) mode, the adaptor as a device with the ports for supplying the carrier and assist air, and the main nozzle to produce sprays. The main nozzle has the swirler with four equally spaced tangential slots, which gives the injecting fluid an angular momentum. The swirl angle in the swirler varied with $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$. The ratios of carrier air to assist air and ALR (total air to liquid) were 0.55 and 1.23, respectively. The macroscopic behavior of the spray was investigated using PIV system, and the AMD and SMD distributions of the sprays were measured using PDA system. As a result, the SMD distribution increases along the radial distance, and it decreases with the increase of swirl angle in swirler.
An optimization approach is investigated for the design of new nozzle system in a automatic car wash machine. Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics and design of experiment methods have been employed to know the mutual interaction between the nozzle shape in the automatic car wash machine and the airflow velocity distribution on the vehicle surface. The performances of air nozzle system were defined as the velocity magnitude and the uniformity of the velocity on the surface of the car. Predicted jet velocity distributions for the optimized geometry were compared with experimental data and the comparisons showed generally good agreements. Also, the performance of the dryer was improved with the optimized results.
In the present study, the 2-fluid nozzle and 3-fluid nozzle to atomize the diesel and water with air for the fuel reformer of SOFC system were experimentally examined. In the 2-fluid nozzle, the diesel and water were alternately atomized due to bislug flow pattern, and it implies that the mixing of both liquids strongly affects the atomization pattern. On the other hand, in the 3-fluid nozzle, the diesel and water were atomized simultaneously due to the separated injection channels without mixing problem. Therefore, compared to the 2-fluid nozzle, the 3-fluid nozzle is suitable for the stable operation of the fuel reformer. In case of the 3-fluid nozzle, Type A where the air was supplied through the central channel was the most efficient.
The removal of the dusts in the subway stations, tunnels, factories and buildings becomes issue for comfortable indoor and outdoor conditions. There has been used an automatic self-cleaning filter system to collect the dusts. In general, the collected particles are removed by water spray nozzles. The new design for improving the cleaning efficiency of collected dusts and reducing the supplied water is the concept of the plane array of demister filters and the twin-fluid nozzle for mixing compressed air and water in the automatic self-cleaning filter system. Results show that the cleaning efficiency of twin-nozzle filter systems is 99.1%, compared to 47% in the conventional filter system. Therefore the automatic self-cleaning filter system using twin-fluid nozzle filter systems reduces water supplied in the filter system, and increases cleaning efficiency and drying efficiency.
Most water cannon machines use compressed gas to accelerate a piston which extrudes water through a cumulation nozzle. Very high jet stagnation-pressures can be achieved by using a specially-shaped nozzle which is initially filled with air or vacuum. The objective of this study was to establish the basic technology of water cannon using exponential type nozzle. An experimental water cannon including high pressure components such as exponential nozzle and 300atm air resrvior were designed and tested. Parameters that influence the performance of the system and jet characteristics were examined.
The liquid phase LPG injection (LPLI) system is considered as one of the next generation fuel supply systems for LPG, vehicles, since it can accomplish the higher power, higher efficiency, and lower emission characteristics than the existing mixer type fuel supply system. However, during the injection of liquid LPG fuel into the inlet duct of an engine, a large quantity of heat is extracted due to evaporation of fuel. A problem is that the moisture in the air freezes around the outlet of a nozzle, which is called icing Phenomenon. It may cause damage to the outlet nozzle of an injector. The frozen ice deposit detached from the nozzle also may cause a considerable damage to the inlet valve or valve seat. In this work, the experimental investigation of the icing phenomenon was carried out. The results showed that the icing phenomenon and process were mainly affected by humidity of inlet air instead of the air temperature in the inlet duct. Also, it was observed that the icing occurs first in the inlet of a nozzle, and grows considerably at the upper part of the nozzle inlet and the opposite side of the nozzle entrance. An LPG fuel, mainly consisting of butane, has lower latent heat of vaporization than that of propane, which is an advantage in controlling the icing phenomenon.

An experimental study was performed on the orifice nozzle system that generates micro-bubbles by air self-suction using a venturi nozzle. This study experimentally investigates the amount of air sucked into the venturi nozzle and the number of micro-bubbles generated by the orifice nozzle system in Cases 1 and 2. The experimental conditions were varied by changing the diameter of the orifice nozzle (d=2~7 mm) and the number of holes of the perforated plate nozzle (n = 2-12). In Case 1, the air self-suction was more than 2 LPM at $d{\leq}4mm$. When d = 4 mm, the total number of bubbles was 29,777, and it was confirmed that micro-bubbles occupied approximately 65% of the total number of bubbles. In Case 2, the air self-suction was maintained constant at approximately 2.5 LPM regardless of the number (n) of holes. The total amount of bubbles increased when n increased but remained constant at approximately 44,000 when $n{\geq}7EA$. It was also confirmed that more than 80% of all bubbles were micro-bubbles when $n{\geq}10EA$. Thus, the number of micro-bubbles increased by approximately 15% compared to the experimental result of Case 1, which was optimized with d = 4 mm.
Exhaust gas from the combustion of automobiles adversely affects the human body and even pollutes the atmosphere. This study investigated the influence of exhaust gas change on intake manifold using the nozzle. First, the flow analysis was performed using the 3D flow analysis program. When the nozzle inlet air velocity increased, the average air velocity in the nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$ increased 37.3% and 31.9% respectively at the intake manifold outlet. As the nozzle inlet air velocity increased, the maximum flow rate of air increased to 42.2% and 32.6%, respectively at nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$. In order to verify the analysis results, experiments on the exhaust gas were performed in the engine simulation system. As the nozzle inlet velocity increased, HC values decreased by 42.4% and 31.4% at nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$, respectively. And CO values decreased by 40.7% and 31.1% at nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$.
