A ultrasonic transduce with a single acoustic matching layer has been designed as an attempt to increase the bandwidth of underwater transducer. The wideband resonance condition was accomplished by attaching a single matching layer on the front face of a ceramic resonator composed of a piezoelectric bar, a taper part and a head part. A modified Mason's model was used for the performance analysis and the design of transducers, and the constructed transducers were tested experimentally and numerically by changing the impedance and thickness of the matching layer in the water tank. The obtained results are summarized as follows:1. Measured resonant and antiresonant frequencies of the piezoelectric transducer with no matching layer in air were 24.7 kHz and 25.6 kHz, respectively. 2. Two resonant frequencies of the piezoelectric transducer with a single matching layer were 21.7 kHx and 26.9 kHz, respectively, in air and 21.4 kHz and 22.7 kHz, respectively, with a water load.3. Two distinct resonance peaks in the transmitting voltage response(TVR) of the developed transducer were observed at 22.0 kHz and 25.8 kHz, respectively, with center frequency of 24.0 kHz. The values of TVR at these frequencies were 130.1 dB re $1 \muPa$/V at 22.0 kHz and 128.5 dB re $1 \muPa$/V at 25.8 kHz, respectively.Reasonable agreement between the experimental results and the numerical values was achieved.
Purpose: The aims of this study were to define the drying characteristics of rapeseed and to determine the optimum thin-layer drying model for rapeseed by considering the effects of drying temperature and relative humidity. Methods: The thin-layer drying experiments were conducted at different combinations of drying air temperature levels of 40, 50, and $60^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity levels of 30, 45, and 60%, on both of which drying rate depends. The drying rate increased with increasing air temperature as well as decreasing relative humidity. The 13 models were fitted to the experimental data. Results: From the results of the regression analysis for empirical constants of the Page model, the values of $R^2$ were the highest (ranging from 0.9924 to 0.9966) and the values of RMSE were the lowest (ranging from 0.0169 to 0.0296). Conclusions: For all drying conditions considered, the Page model was determined to be the most suitable model for describing the thin-layer drying of rapeseed (P-value < 0.01). The moisture diffusion coefficients were calculated using the moisture diffusion equation for a spherical shape, based on Fick's second law.
ZTO/GZO double layered films were prepared on unheated non-alkali glass substrates. ZTO films were deposited by RF/DC hybrid magnetron co-sputtering using ZnO (RF) target and $SnO_2$ (DC) targets, and then GZO films were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering using an GZO ($Ga_2O_3$:5.57 wt%) target. These films were post-annealed at temperature of 200, $300^{\circ}C$ in air and vacuum ambient for 30 min. In the case of post-annealing in air, ZTO/GZO double layer showed relatively low resistivity change, compared to GZO single layer. Furthermore, ZTO/GZO double layer revealed low WVTR, compared to GZO single layer. Therefore, it can be confirmed that ZTO film doing a role with barrier for water or oxygen diffusion.
In this paper, the wind tunnel test was carried to investigate the behavior of buffer layer in turbulent boundary layer with variation of surface temperature and roughness. The results were as follows; 1. The velocity in turbulent boundary layer was increased when the roughness height within viscous sublayer thickness was increased. 2. When the surface temperature was increased, the density of air was decreased and the velocity in turbulent boundary layer was increased. Thus, the thickness of turbulent boundary layer was decreased. 3. When the roughness height and surface temperature was increased simultaneously, the thickness of turbulent boundary layer was decreased. 4. The decrement of the thickness of turbulent boundary layer was more effected by the increment of the roughness height rather than the increment of surface temperature. 5. In this study, it was found that the condition of the highest velocity n turbulent boundary layer was the temperature 333K and roughness #100.
The flow pattern of air layers and skin-friction drag reduction by air injection are investigated to find the suitable multiphase flow model using unstructured finite-volume CFD solver for the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. In the present computations, two different multiphase flow modeling approaches, such as the Volume of Fluid (VOF) and the Eulerian Multi-Phase (EMP), are adopted to investigate their performances in resolving the two-phase flow pattern and in estimating the frictional drag reduction. First of all, the formation pattern of air layers generated by air injection through a circular opening on the bottom of a flat plate are investigated. These results are then compared with those of MMkiharju's experimental results. Subsequently, the quantitative ratios of skin-friction drag reduction including the behavior of air layers, within turbulent boundary layers in large scale and at high Reynolds number conditions, are investigated under the same conditions as the model test that has been conducted in the US Navy's William B. Morgan Large Cavitation Channel (LCC). From these results, it is found that both VOF and EMP models have similar capability and accuracy in capturing the topology of ventilated air cavities so called'air pockets and branches'. However, EMP model is more favorable in predicting quantitatively the percentage of frictional drag reduction by air injection.
Aerosol size and number concentration were observed in the atmospheric boundary layer over Beijing (from near the ground to 1,200 m) on March 15 (a clear day) and 16 (a dusty day), 2005. The results were further compared with lidar measurements in order to understand the dependency of extinction on the particle size distribution and their vertical changes. The boundary layer atmosphere was composed of several sub-layers, and a dry air layer appeared between 400 and 1,000 m under the influence of dust event. In this dry air layer, the concentration of the fine-mode particles (diameter smaller than $1.0\;{\mu}m$) was slightly lower than the value on the clear day, while the concentration of coarse-mode particles (diameter larger than $1.0\;{\mu}m$) was remarkably higher than that on the clear day. This situation was attributed to the inflow of an air mass containing large amounts of Asian dust particles and a smaller amount of fine-mode particles. The results strongly suggest that the fine-mode particles affect light extinction even in the dusty atmosphere. However, quantitatively the relation between extinction and particle concentration is not satisfied under the dusty atmospheric conditions since laser beam attenuates in the atmosphere with high concentration of particles. Laser beam attenuation effect becomes larger in the relation between extinction and coarse particle content comparing the relation between extinction and fine particle content. To clarify this problem technically, future in situ measurements such as balloon-borne lidar are suggested. Here extinction was measured at 532 nm wavelength. Measurements of extinction at other wavelengths are desired in the future.
We present a new design method of one-dimensional multi-layered acoustic foams for transmission loss maximization by topology optimization. Multi-layered acoustic foam sequences consisting of acoustic air layers and poroelastic material layers are designed for target frequency values. For successful topology optimization design of multi-layered acoustic foams, the material interpolation concept of topology optimization is adopted. In doing so, an acoustic air layer is modeled as a limiting poroelastic material layer; acoustic air and poroelastic material are handled by a single set of governing equations based on Biot's theory. For efficient analysis of a specific multi-layered foam appearing during optimization, we do not solve the differential equations directly, but we use an efficient transfer matrix approach which can be derived from Biot's theory. Through some numerical case studies, the proposed design method for finding optimal multi-layer sequencing is validated.
Variations of thickness and effective thermal conductivity of frost forming on the horizontal] cylinder with respect to time were measured under cross flow. The local heat flux around the cylinder was determined by measuring the radial temperature distribution in the cylinder having small holes drilled axially in which T-type thermocouples were inserted, then by using one dimensional cylindrical heat conduction equation. The thickness and the surface temperature of the frost layer around the cylinder were measured periodically while developing the frost. Each experiment was peformed by varying the Reynolds number, the temperature, and the humidity condition. Specially the dew point temperature of the most cases was below the freezing point. Experimental data showed that the frost layers on the front and the rear surface were thicker than those on the top and the bottom one which was near the separation point. The thickness and effective thermal conductivity of the frost layer were affected by inlet air velocity, temperature, and humidity. Moreover, the effective thermal conductivity and the effective thermal resistance increase with respect to time.

$CsN_3$ was developed as a novel n doping material with air stability and low deposition temperature. Evaporation temperature of $CsN_3$ was similar to that of common hole injection material and it worked well as a n dopant in electron transport layer. Driving voltage was lowered and high power efficiency was obtained in green phosphorescent devices by using $CsN_3$ as a dopant in electron transport layer. It could also be used as a charge generation layer in combination with $MoO_3$. In addition, n doping mechanism study revealed that $CsN_3$ is decomposed into Cs and $N_2$ during evaporation. This is the first work reporting air stable and low temperature evaporable n dopant in organic light-emitting diodes.
In grinding process, the heat of $1200^{\circ}$~$1500^{\circ}$ on the grinding area between grinding wheel and workpiece is generated. It decreases the surface integrity of workpiece and causes the thermal damages such as the deformed layer, residual stress and grinding burn. Generally coolant is widely used for preventing the heat generation on the grinding area, but it deteriorates the working condition by polluting the atmosphere of workplace and in the end pollutes the environment. The grinding methods using the compressed cold air and mist are the cooling methods to substitute conventional coolant. They can decrease the environmental pollution through not using coolant any more or minimizing it. In this study, the cooling effects of grinding methods using the compressed cold air and mist have been investigated. The grinding system equipped with the water bathe and mist spray nozzle was developed. The energy partition to workpiece through measuring the temperature on the workpiece surface was calculated. The surface integrity of workpiece and thermal damage like the deformed layer were analyzed.
