가열패널과 열풍을 이용한 자동차용 도료의 건조특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Drying Characteristics of Automotive Paint Using Heating Panels and Hot Air)

  • The drying is a process that involves coupled and simultaneous heat and mass transfer. When a wet solid is subjected to thermal drying, two processes occur simultaneously. Drying is classified according to heat transfer characteristics in terms of conduction, convection and radiation. In thermal drying, radiation is easier to control than conduction and convection drying and involves a relatively simple structure. In this study, we measured energy consumption, surface hardness of paint and surface gloss with variation of surface temperature of drying materials and drying time. Drying characteristics and energy consumption between heating panels and hot air heating have been presented. The present study shows that a dryer using heating panels is more effective than a hot air dryer from the viewpoint of energy conservation. The hot air dryer, however, was not optimized and more studies on various parameters related to drying will need to be investigated for definite comparison of drying characteristics of the dryers. The result, even if limited, would present the effective availability of paint drying.

  • Experimental external collector type solar lumber dryer of $1m^3$ of maximum capacity with $1.6m^3$ of collector area was designed and constructed. The seasonal performance of solar dryer, including air-conditions, energy efficiency, and drying characteristics of 3cm-thick red pine and douglas-fir lumber was investigated. Also, the economic analysis was carried out. Annual average solar drying rate was about 2 times faster than air-drying rate with no significant difference in the amount of drying defects. But in initial drying stage air-drying rate in winter was much faster and those in spring and autumn were slightly slower than solar drying rate in each season. Annual average energy efficiency of solar-dryer and-collector was 25% and 57%, respectively. Fuel savings were over 50% at 15% of energy inflation rate and the payback period was estimated as 6.10 years at 30% of energy inflation rate.

  • In the present study, the air jet flow characteristics of the dryer in the automatic car wash machine were numerically predicted by commercial CFD code. The effects of the dryer shape and the nozzle width variations on the performance of the automatic car wash machine were discussed. To optimize the geometric parameters, the response surface method(RSM) with CFD was used. Predicted jet velocity distributions for the optimized geometry were compared with experimental data and the comparisons show generally good agreements. Also, the performance of the dryer was improved with the optimized results.

  • The textile which is rotated in the tumbler dryer is dried by the heated air. the energy consumption for drying textile depends on various parameters. The objective of this study is to save the energy and the drying time. One of the various methods for energy saving is EGR(exhaust gas recirculation). We set the drying equipment for this study and perform the experimental study with the changes of the recirculation rate, the input power, and the air mass flow rate. We found the optimal drying conditions.

  • In order to prevent the environmental pollution, the dryers are commonly used to treat sludge that one of sewages is polluting the quality of water. Generally, the drying method is various as to the property of material and use. Rotary dryer is a good apparatus to treat them. It is the way that is to make substance transmission and heat using hot air between sludge particle and heated gas. In this paper, we developed a 3-pass rotary dryer for a design program for the 3-pass rotary dryer with various conditions. The working conditions of dryer are a raw sludge feed rate, input & output water content and operation time etc.

  • In this study, the performance characteristics of a high temperature heat pump dryer that is able to raise the air temperature up to $80^{\circ}C$ by using waste heat as heat source were investigated numerically. The main components of the heat pump dryer were modeling as a compressor, condenser, evaporator and expansion device, and R245fa was selected as refrigerant. Experiments were also conducted to validate the numerical data. As a result, when the evaporator air inlet temperature increased from $50^{\circ}C$ to $65^{\circ}C$, the numerical results of the hot air temperature at outlet and heat pump COP were about 8~11% and 5~8% higher than that of experimental ones, respectively.

  • Purpose: In Korea, wheat is dried using circulating cross-flow grain dryers. However, there is no research on wheat drying which can be utilized for the dryers. Therefore, this study developed and evaluated a simulation of the circulating cross-flow dryer, and examined the effects of various factors on drying performance. Methods: The simulation program was developed using drying models and was evaluated against wheat-drying experiments with a dryer having a 30-ton capacity. The influence of drying temperature, air volume, and grain falling rate on drying performance were examined through the simulation. Results: The experimental results validated the simulation program by showing the same root mean square error (RMSE) for moisture content (0.286%) and drying rate (0.056%/h) in both the experimental data and the simulation values. The appropriate wheat-drying parameter values, considering drying conditions, were determined to be $50^{\circ}C$ for drying temperature, $500m^3/min$ for air volume, and a grain falling rate of $36.0m^3/h$. Conclusions: The developed simulation program for circulating cross-flow dryers analyzed the influences of performance factors such as drying temperature, air volume, and falling rate on drying performance.

3단 회전식 건조기의 내부 유동에 관한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of the Inner Flow of a 3-pass Rotary Dryer)

The rotary dryer is the way that is to make substance transmission and heating using hot air between sludge particles and heated gas. In this paper, we performed a numerical analysis of the inner air flow of the 3-pass rotary dryer through the changing rotational speed from 3rpm to 10rpm. In this result, we found that 3rpm is effective to dry material in terms of heat transfer because large scale velocity fluctuation is occurred inside the first and second drum. Also we confirmed that 5rpm and 8rpm showed up uniform flow at the center area of the first drum.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of driving atomizing nozzle position, the slope of sludge entering tube and supplying air flow rate on the performance of sludge air dryer. This paper deals with optimization of the geometry of the atomizing nozzle for sludge drying using computational fluid dynamics and drying performance test using pilot air dryer. The air drying system was composed of the atomizing nozzle which made high-speed fluid field. dewatered cake was crushed at the high-speed zone as the first step and formed intto dried powder of sphere shape by the collision between particles at the circling zone. The CFD analysis results show when the slope of entering sludge tube is smaller, suction air amount is increased. It is shown that the developed atomizing nozzle is very excellent in the drying performance through pilot test.

R245fa 냉매를 이용한 배열회수 히트펌프 시스템 성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Performance of Heat Recovery Heat Pump System using R245fa Refrigerant)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the performance of a heat recovery heat pump dryer using a R245fa refrigerant experimentally. In this study, the main components of the heat pump dryer were an evaporator, a compressor, a condenser, and an expansion valve. As a result, when the amount of refrigerant varied from 15 kg to 16 kg, the hot air outlet temperature in the condenser and the heat transfer rate were almost kept constant. Therefore, the amount of refrigerant at 16 kg was considered to be a suitable amount in the heat pump. As the air inlet velocity varied from 0.5 m/s to 1.5 m/s, the highest temperature in the condenser could be obtained when the air inlet velocity was 0.5 m/s. The heat transfer rate, system (COP), and hot air outlet temperature were 5.6 kW, 3.4, and $102.5^{\circ}C$, respectively, when the bypass ratio and water temperature were 0% and $60^{\circ}C$.
