This bamboo brush stand was made by attaching two bamboo tubes together, each 80mm in diameter. On the bottom is a "∞-shaped"wood board made of Ailanthus altissima. The surfaces are decorated with exquisite and dynamic designs of a dragon and clouds, and a deer and pine trees. Part of this bamboo brush stand was damaged, lost, or worn down, prior to conservation treatment. After conservation and recovery treatment, its original form was restored. Earth powder, chalk, and gluten mixture were used as materials to fill in the missing parts. After the original form was restored, thin silk fabric was attached to the inner surface of the glued part to prevent cracking. Traditional materials and repair techniques were used to allow for reversal of treatment, if necessary, as seen in the surface of the restored part being made antiquated with lacquer varnish.
To select tolerant species among the Korean major woody plants for restoring disturbed ecosystems by air and soil pollution, we transplanted the seedlings of 56 species in control and polluted sites within Yeocheon industrial complex area, and compared their aboveground growth characteristics such as total branch length, total leaf weight, and maximum photozynthetic rate. Tolerant species growting better in polluted site than in control site was Quercus variabilis, Pinus thunbergii, Q. aliena, P. densiflora, Styrax japonica, Alnus firma, Celtis sinensis, Elaeagnus umbellata, Q. serrata, japonica, Sorbus alnifolia, and Q. acutissimia in local tree occuring within polluted area group (80%), Ailanthus altissima in street tree group (20%), Populus tomentiglandulosa and A. hirsuta var. sibirica in fast growing tree group (50%), Acer ginala and Abies holophylla in late successional tree group (20%), Betulla platyphylla var. japonica, Acer truncatum, A. palmatum, Syringa dilatata, and Rosa multifora in garden tree group (38%), and Q. rubura, and Robinia pseudoacacia in foreign restoring tree group (20%), respectively. The remaining plant species, 37 species (57% of total species), were classified into sensitive species to pollution. Those tolerant species can be utilized for restoration of the degraded ecosystem in this polluted area.
Flora and distribution of vascular plants included introduced species of Mt. Nam park in Seoul were investigated from 1997 to 1998. The flora was composed of 112 families, 338 genera, 487 species, 1 subspecies, 60 varieties, 11 forma or 559 taca. Whole taxa of Mt. Nam calculated with the other reports were recorded 125 families, 461 genera, 832 species, 2 subspecies, 115 varieties, 14 forma or 963 taxa. Mt. nam area has lost its properties because of road and promenade construction, several park reclaimation, introduction of foreign species and exotic plants, and so on. The urbanized index (UI) was comparatively high at 18.3%. Eupatorium rugosum which shown high shade tolerance comparatively was occupied dominantly in road sides. The natural ecosystem and biodiversity of Mt. Nam were under threatened by introduced species. DBH mode of Pinus densiflora community was shown bell shape but that of Quercus mongolica was shown reverse J shape, therefore, it will be occupied in the future this area dominantly by Q. mongolica community. However the vegetation of Mt. nam park area are repressing by superior position in their growth of introduced species included R. pseudo-acacia, Ailanthus altissima and E. rugosum, etc.

This study was executed to investigate the vegetation structure and to propose the administration planning of the Royal Ancestor's Shrine. Five sites sampled in the study area with the clumped sampling method. Pinus koraiensis community covered 27.3% and Quercus aliena community 61.5% of total forest area when considering the actual vegetation. This area of environmental impact grade 3 and 4 area covered 46.9% and it should be restored. The ecological diversity, i.e. species diversity and evenness, showed low class, and especially site 2 which was controlled the user's after 1985 showed the lowest value. Pinus koraiensis community which is a dominant species now in the study area shall be succeed to Quercus aliena community. Robinia pseudoacacia at the eastern wall shall be excluded step by step and it shall be replaced with native species gradually. Ailanthus altissima, Populus ${\times}$ albaglandulosa and Styrax japonica which had higher selection invaded conspicuously the bare land. As the administration planning of the study area, Pinus koraiensis and Styrax japonica shall be thinned out gradually and it shall be replaced with Quercus aliena and Acer palmatum.

The purpose of this study is to present the basic data for establishing the plan of usage and management of healing forest by surveying and analysing the vascular plants distributed in Jangseong Healing Forest. The numbers of vascular plants were summarized as 338 taxa including 85 families, 211 genera, 294 species, 3 subspecies, 33 varieties and 8 forms. In the result of life form, hemicryptophytes and geophytes were the most common and hydrophytes were the least. The rare plants were 5 taxa including Abies koreana Wilson(planted), Thuja orientalis L.(planted), Scutellaria insignis Nakai, Tricyrtis macropoda Miq. and Arisaema heterophyllum Blume. The Korean endemic plants were 12 taxa including Philadelphus schrenkii Rupr., Indigofera koreana Ohwi, Lycoris flavescens M.Y.Kim & S.T.Lee and so forth. The specific plants by floristic region were 28 taxa including 2 taxa of grade IV, 3 taxa of grade III, 7 taxa of grade II and 16 taxa of grade I. The naturalized plants were 20 taxa including Fallopia convolvulus (L.) $A.L{\ddot{o}}ve$, Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle, Veronica arvensis L., Poa pratensis L. and so forth. The invasive alien plants were Rumex acetocella L. and Ambrosia artemisiifolia L..
Host preference was tested on the 7 species plants against ggot-mae-mi, Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae). This insect highly preferred Ailanthus altissima and Vitis vinifera however, didn't choose the other plants preferentially. Both nymphs and adults lived longest in A. altissima and V. vinifera but lived in short and low ecdysis rate against other plants and 3 species fruits. By analyzing the phloem-feeding behavior using EPG, L. delicatula was showed the short time in non-probing phase and it also exhibit the longest feeding time in A. altissima and V. vinifera, but other plants did not feed the phloem at all. In sugar contents analysis, A. altissima existed high sucrose proportion and followed by fructose>glucose, V. vinifera was analyzed by an order of glucose> fructose>maltose>sucrose>rhamnose, Malus pumila was as glucose> fructose, Pyrus calleryana was as glucose>unkown>fructose, Hibiscus syriacus was as sucrose>glucose. Nymphs and adults of L. delicatula lived longest in 5% sucrose solution, and next is in 5% fructose solution. However, they lived short in other sugar solutions. L. delicatula nymph and adult according to the combination of sugar proportion found in original plants lived longer in sugar combination solution of A. altissima and those of V. vinifera was next. Analyzed original sugar proportion from M. pumila, P. calleryana, H. syriacus respectively, L. delicatula lived short period comparing to the A. altissima, V. vinifera. This result was judged that sugar contents affected on choosing the host plants.
In this study, the anti-inflammatory effect of hyaluronidase (HAase) inhibition was determined from 92 species of oriental herbal medicine extracted with water and ethanol solvents because of their non-toxicity in the human body. The water extracts of Evodia officinalis (86.8%), Thuja orientalis (80.8%), Carthami semen (66.5%), Melia azedarach (74.7%), Siegesbeckia pubescens (61.3%), Saururus chinensis (49.15%) showed a relatively greater anti-inflammatory activity. The ethanol extracts of Ailanthus altissima and Saururus chinensis demonstrated the highest anti-inflammatory effect at above 90%. Saururus chinensis was selected for its high anti-inflammatory effect in both water and ethanol extract. Ethanol was more effective than water and optimal extraction conditions for phenolic compounds was determined to be extraction with 50% ethanol for 12 hours. The extracts from Saururus chinensis in optimal condition showed 70~80% anti-inflammatory effect when $100{\sim}250{\mu}g/mL$ phenolic concentration was treated. Concentration of above $500{\mu}g/mL$ decreased the inhibitory effect. The anti-inflammatory effect and extraction yield were increased by ultra-fine grind technology, indicating that this method can be used to increase the extraction yield of phenolic compounds from medicinal plants.
This study was conducted to select appropriate woody species and to propose appropriate woody species and to propose appropriate mounding hight through analysis of soil characteristics, planting state, draining state, growth amount and injured index of woody species. Soil acidity was pH 5.9~7.4, as alkaline soil. The state of draining was proved to be inappropriate for the growth of woody species because of bad draining state. Injured index of woody species were Prunus serrulata var, spontanea in deciduous tree because of polluted water leaked from sanitary landfill and density of planting tree. Appropriate mounding heignt of the planted area which was itensive injured wood species was not less than 80cm. Appropreate woody species in wanggyoi-dong apartment complex were Zelkova serrata, Acer trifloum, Acer buergerianum, Sophora japonica, Ailanthus altissima and appropriate mounding height was not less than 50~60cm.
