Confirmed record of abalone Haliotis arabiensis near Muscat (Sea of Oman) and a description of abalone species from the Arabian Peninsula

  • Haliotis arabiensis Owen, Regter & Van Laethem, 2016 was found near Muscat city of Oman in the Sea of Oman in September 2021. A total of 85 abalone specimens were collected under small boulders from a depth of 2-5 m during the scuba diving survey from seven stations located from Sidab to Bandar Khairan. The shell length (SL) of the abalone ranged between 10.0 and 30.0 mm, on average 19.9 ± 0.22 mm SL. The sex was determined in 15 females and 21 males. The study presents photos and a comparative table with morphological descriptions of four abalone species (H. arabiensis, H. mariae, H. rugosa multiperforata and H. unilateralis) which are important for differentiating the small abalone species from juveniles of H. mariae during monitoring surveys of this important commercial species in Oman.

한국 밀식사과원의 정지전정에 따른 수체생장과 생산성 및 경영효율 비교 (Tree Growth, Productivity, and Management Efficiency of High-Density Apple Orchards according to Training Systems in Korea)

  • 수형을 달리하여 재식 이후 일관되게 관리하여온 왜성사과밀식재배에서 재식 후 7-9년차 수체에 대하여 수체생장과 생산성, 그리고 생산된 과실의 품질을 비교하는 일련의 시험을 수행하였다. 과원관리체계의 핵심기술인 수형과 전정방법을 일반대목 개심형(T-1), 왜성대목 썬플러스형(T-2), 세장방추형(T-3), 쏠렉스형(T-4), 세형방추형(T-5), 키큰방추형(T-6), 고밀식형(T-7)으로 구분하여 시행하였다. 상기 비교시험 결과, T-5와 T-6 체계로 전정하고 관리 받은 사과원이 수체생장을 적절히 조절하면서 높은 생산성을 보였고 또한 생산된 과실의 품질도 우수하였다. 또한 경영효율을 비교한 결과에서도, T-5와 T-6 체계에 의해 전정한 사과원이 여타 전정으로 관리된 왜성사과밀식재배에 비해 월등한 결과를 보여주었다.

Genetic characterization of bovine rotavirus isolates in Korea

  • Throughout the world, rotavirus infections cause extensive morbidity in human infants and diarrhea in animals such as white scour caused by bovine rotavirus in calves. We isolated three rotavirus strains designated KV0407, KV0418, and KV0426 from 103 fecal samples of diarrheic calves. The genes coding for proteins VP4, VP6, VP7, and NSP4 from strain KV0407 were sequenced and compared with the nucleotide sequences of other known strains of rotavirus. The KV0407 VP4 gene was highly homologous to the OSU (99.4%) and JL94 (99.4%), but not the B223 (62.4%) and K33 (62.4%) VP4 genes. The KV0407 and KV0418 VP7 genes were most similar to the OSU and super-short type VMRI VP7 genes. Based on nucleotide sequence analysis, the KV0407 strain was tentatively assigned to A serogroup (SG I), G5P[7], NSP4 genotype B and the KV0418 and KV0426 strains were assigned to A serogroup (SG I), G6P[5], NSP4 genotype A. The genetic characterization of these bovine rotavirus isolates could be useful for the diagnosis and prevention of diarrhea in calves.

무침주사기를 이용한 구제역 백신 접종과 이상육 발생 (Frequency of Lesions on Injection Site by Vaccination Using Needle-Free Injection)

  • 일반적으로 구제역 백신 접종은 유침주사기를 사용하고 있다. 유침주사기 사용 시 근육 조직 및 림프구에 병변이 생기는 이상육이 발생하고 이는 소비자의 불만제기와 국내산 돼지고기(한돈)의 이미지 악화와 관련된다. 그 대안으로 무침주사기 개발이 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 무침주사기를 이용한 구제역 백신 접종 시 이상육 발생빈도를 조사하여 무침주사기의 활용성을 검증하기 위해 실시했다. 실험결과 무침주사기 사용 시 이상육의 발생이 유침주사기 사용 대비 유의적으로 낮았다(36 vs. 16%, p < 0.05). 따라서 무침주사기를 이용한 구제역 백신 접종 시 이상육 발생을 낮춰 돈육 품질을 높이고 소비자 불만을 감소시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 추가 연구로 무침주사기의 항체형성률, 작업효율성, 경제적 비용 등을 조사하고 무침주사기의 활용성을 검증할 필요가 있다.

느타리버섯 푸른곰팡이병에 관여하는 Trichoderma 속균의 동정 및 검출을 위한 PCR 기반 DNA 마커 개발 (Development of PCR-based DNA markers for identification and detection of Trichoderma species associated with the green mold disease of oyster mushroom)

  • Trichoderma is known as pathogen caused serious green mold disease on commercial production. T. pleuroti and T. pleuroticola were common species in various mushroom media. Many strains of T. pleuroti, known as aggressive species causing major economic losses in Korea, showed benomyl resistance. Accurate identification and detection of Trichoderma species associated with oyster mushrooms is very important for disease control. We developed species-specific primers for T. pleuroticola, T. pleuroti, T. harzianum, and T. atroviride based on species-specific fragments isolated from amplified fragment length polymorphism analysis. PCR products corresponding to the predicted fragment of 500bp, 230bp, 180bp, and 410bp were amplified from T. pleuroticola, T. pleuroti, T. harzianum, and T. atroviride, respectively. Multiplex PCR assay using species-specific primers quickly and accurately identified and detected T. pleuroti from mushroom media in which various species co-exist. Our results can be useful for the effective control of mushroom disease.

  • 본 조사는 제주 감귤의 수출확대를 위하여 기능이 거의 정지한 감귤수출전문단지를 활성화할 방안을 모색하고자 수행되었다. 수출단지 활성화에는 고품질의 과실을 안정적으로 생산할 수 있는 농가를 다수 육성하고 계열화시켜 고품질의 수출용 감귤을 안정적으로 확보함과 동시에 수출농가의 경영수지를 안정화시키는 것이 선결과제이며, 우선 고품질 과실의 안정적인 생산을 위해서는 다음과 같은 과실생산기술의 표준화와 보급이 필요하다고 판단되었다. 1) 농로, 단지형태 개선 등을 통한 작업의 효율화 2) 간벌, 관배수시설, 다공질피복 등의 고당도 과실생산기술 적용 3) 품종개량, 무독묘 공급 등을 통한 생산성 및 품질향상 4) 전 생산단계에 걸친 재배기술(Global GAP 수준)의 표준화 및 보급

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the phenomenon of agricultural management transfer and to present a plan to activate Korean management transfer through institutional consideration. To this end, the domestic and overseas agricultural management transfer system was identified, and an appropriate institutional plan for the country was sought. There are six ways to activate the management transfer system proposed in this study. First, establishment of an agricultural management transfer agency, second, training and utilization of management transfer experts, third, establishment of an agricultural succession certification support institution, fourth, operation of specialized training courses for management transfer, fifth, (local government) linked operation of a farming support center, sixth, agricultural management transfer legislation and securing of budgets. The above agricultural management transfer system is expected to contribute to the advancement of management transfer activation.

청년 농업인 육성지원제도 개선을 위한 중요도-만족도 분석 (Importance-Satisfaction Analysis for Improvement of Young Farmers Fostering Support Policy)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the importance-satisfaction level for the improvement of the young farmers fostering support policy. According to the analysis result, the respondents answered that the current policy to foster young farmers is important. However, the actual satisfaction level of the project was found to be lower than the importance level. In the 'Keep up the Good Work' area, which is the first quadrant, 'a project to support young succession farmers and settling in farming' and 'a project to select and support succeeding agricultural managers'. It was found that the respondents highly evaluated the importance and satisfaction of the 'Young Succession Farmers Selection and Farm Settlement Support Project' and the 'Succession Farmers Selection and Support Project'. Therefore, it is necessary to gradually expand the project in the future.

토양 건조 및 침수처리가 박태기나무의 광계 II 활성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Soil Drought and Waterlogging on Photosystem II Activities in Cercis Bunge)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the photosystem II activities of Cercis chinensis by soil water condition. Drought stress was induced by withholding water and waterlogging treatments was immerging the pots for 15 days. Results showed that the relative activities per reaction center such as ABS/RC, TRo/RC and Dio/RC were significantly increased compared with the control group after 12 days in waterlogging treatments. Particularly, Dio/RC increased substantially under waterlogging stress, indicating that excessive energy was consumed by heat dissipation. Furthermore, the performance index on absorption basis(PIabs) and responses to structural and functional PS II(SFIabs) were dramatically decreased after 15 days in both the drought and waterlogging treatments, which reflects the relative reduction state of the photosystem II. These results of chlorophyll a fluorescence by OKJIP analysis show that the sensitive changes photosystem II activity. Thus, on the basis of our results that Cercis chinensis was exhibited a strong reduction of photosynthetic activity to waterlogging stress, and OKJIP parameters such as ABS/RC, DIo/RC, PIabs and SFIabs could be useful indicator to monitor the physiological states of Cercis chinensis under soil water condition.
