The Global Knowledge Linkage Structures of the Agricultural Sector Pertinent to Information Technology: A Triple Helix Perspective

  • The development of informatization impacts all sectors, including agriculture. Agricultural informatization builds the knowledge linkage structures of agricultural innovation systems globally. This study investigated the global knowledge linkage structures in agricultural innovation pertinent to information technology (IT) for agricultural research and development (R&D) investments and activities. We explored the longitudinal trend of systemness within the networked research relationships in the triple helix (TH) of the university, industry and government (UIG). We collected data from publications in the Science Citation Index (SCI), the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI) to analyze the TH network dynamics. We also performed a scientometrics analysis to quantitatively identify the knowledge and insights of global agricultural innovation structures. These results could be informative for individual countries. Our findings reveal that the global knowledge linkage structures in the agricultural sector that are pertinent to IT fluctuate widely and fail to increase the capacity of agricultural innovation research due to a neglect of the network effects of the TH dynamics of UIG.

  • Consumers keep demanding for diversified high quality products, valuable services and safety. With this in mind, Distribution Industry is being updated rapidly to accomodate this demand. Meanwhile, Distribution Information Technology of agricultural products has been in slow progress with little in-depth studies. In this study, it has been analyzed the usage of Bar code which is the key element for agricultural Distribution Information Technology. The analysis was conducted through a survey utilizing questionnaire covering 5 Hypermarkets(Super-centers) including big 3 companies. Also, Japanese market trends have been studied to visit a Japan Government Organization concerned, GS1 Japan, an Agricultural Cooperative, an Agricultural Wholesale Market, and a Retail Company. If we could use KAN code for all agricultural products, we could collect and analyze the information of price and trade quantity of them. It opens a new era to understand the agricultural products supply and demand easily. This will certainly make a great contribution to the evolution of agricultural products distribution. From this research, it is suggested that collective efforts by suppliers, wholesalers, retailers and Government Officers are needed to make large scale mutual marketing Organizations, which specialize in sending out agricultural products. The Organization is recommended to standardize and pack every final agricultural products, to promote the use of KAN code.

  • Due to the rise of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) adoption in many fields, it is necessary to diagnose the informatization situations of corporations in agriculture and give suggestions for improvement. For this goal, surveys were designed and conducted to understand the current informatization situations of agriculture corporations in Korea. The survey covers the plan for utilizing information technology, the establishment of infrastructure for information technology, IT application status, and its effect on their performance. The specific focus of our research is to segment the corporations by their type of industries and their level of sales and give differentiated managerial implications for each segment. This is because the type of informatization and information technology assistance they need highly depends on their industry type and sales level.   • Community-based precision farming is a new concept of agricultural systems, which leads to organize groups of wise farmers and technology platforms in Japan. The wisdom farmers create a rational farming system to manage hierarchical variability: variability in farmers' community as well as variability of within-field and between-field. The technology platform develops and provides three key-technologies: mapping technology, variable-rate technology, and decision support systems available for rural constraints. Advancement of bio-production robots leads precision farming to the next level, where two technological innovations: how to produce and manage information-oriented fields and information-added products, can be attained.

농촌지도사업의 콜센터 운용효과 분석 (An Impact Analysis of Call System of Agricultural Extension Services in Korea)

  • The objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of the Call System of agricultural extension services in Korea. The respondents were satisfied on the speedy solution (74.5%), consultation (88.4%), and accessibility (79.7%) of the call system. However, satisfaction of farmers on in-depth consultation was higher (74.3%) than the satisfaction rated by the public servants of RDA (48.9%). Both groups replied positively (70.4%) on the need for expansion of the call system. The analyses of the results leads to a conclusion that there is a need to increase marketing on the importance of RDA's Call System to customers of agricultural extension and to improve accessibility through expansion of the system in other areas. These could solve the decreasing number of extension professionals and improve the quality and efficiency of extension services. These analyses may be useful as bases for a nationwide Call System that connects the center with other districts and for planning a renovation of information-oriented agricultural extension services. The issue that needs improvement is to abandon the grounds of agricultural technology information provider and respond to the customers' needs efficiently by building an established Call System which can minimize the side effect of the trends of reforming and downsizing the organization. It is needed to develop a unified management Call System of agricultural technology information that could provide real-time information, and database the results simultaneously for use as feedback to the Rural Development Programs. Related laws and policies need to be improved to establish a nationwide information network that maximizes the current network in agricultural regions to spread information, to provide institutional support, and to encourage development of training system and research and development by concerned institutes.

  • This study aims to identify the causation effect between technostress and utilization of Internet information and meditation effect of information service acceptability between technostress and Internet information utilization. The data were collected from 503 woman farmers aged 20 to 65 across the country. The analysis performed a three-stage mediated regression of Bron, & Kenny (1986), using the SPSS 21.0 statistical package. The importance of accepting information services has been identified in the Sobel test. According to the analysis of the medium effect on information service acceptability, information service acceptability has a partial medium effect on the technological stress of woman farmers and the level of Internet information utilization. In order to lower the technology of woman farmers in the future, it is necessary to find ways to improve new perceptions of information technology and increase acceptability of information services.

만다라트(Mandal-Art) 기법을 이용한 웹기반 농업용수 정보시스템 평가지표 개발 (Development of Evaluation Indicators for Web-based Agricultural Water Information System using Mandal-Art Method)

  • The importance of information system evaluation has increased according to ICT development and this evaluation is required for objective verification. The aim of this study is to develop evaluation indicators for web-based information system and verify the availability of these evaluation indicators through applying to agricultural water integrated information system. This study finds and provides eight evaluation items and 64 indicators for a web-based information system using $3{\times}3$ Mandal-Art matrix that is a tool for creating creative ideas. These evaluation items are design, contents, navigation, stability, community, convenience, usefulness, and accuracy. Total 64 evaluation indicators were presented by deriving eight evaluation items for each using $9{\times}9$ Mandal-Art matrix. When evaluating information system using evaluation indicators, it can be identified the vulnerable items in the information system. Also, the comprehensive results of the information system could be understood when appearing a single score after weighting. In addition, it can also help to prepare a questionnaire for evaluation systematically.
