Gromwell (Lithospermum erythrorhizon, LE) can mitigate obesity-induced skeletal muscle atrophy in C2C12 myotubes and high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice. The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-skeletal muscle atrophy effects of LE and the underlying molecular mechanism. C2C12 myotubes were pretreated with LE or shikonin, and active component of LE, for 24 h and then treated with 500 μM palmitic acid (PA) for an additional 24 h. Additionally, mice were fed a HFD for 8 weeks to induced obesity, and then fed either the same diet or a version containing 0.25% LE for 10 weeks. LE attenuated PA-induced myotubes atrophy in differentiated C2C12 myotubes. The supplementation of LE to obese mice significantly increased skeletal muscle weight, lean body mass, muscle strength, and exercise performance compared with those in the HFD group. LE supplementation not only suppressed obesity-induced skeletal muscle lipid accumulation, but also downregulated TNF-α and atrophic genes. LE increased protein synthesis in the skeletal muscle via the mTOR pathway. We observed LE induced increase of mitochondrial biogenesis and upregulation of oxidative phosphorylation related genes in the skeletal muscles. Furthermore, LE increased the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1 alpha and the phosphorylation of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase. Collectively, LE may be useful in ameliorating the detrimental effects of obesity-induced skeletal muscle atrophy through the increase of protein synthesis and mitochondrial biogenesis of skeletal muscle.
The bioremediation is an economic technology to remove the organopollutants from soil. It is often found that the remediation could not remove the compounds below the levels determined by vigorous extractions as required by regulatory agencies. The reason for the reduced bioavailability with increasing time of aging has been accredited to the sequestration of the compounds in remote sites within or between soil particles. Then, the aging could be defined as the time-dependent sequestration. Partitioning and entrapment have been suggested as mechanism for aging. The rate and extent of the sequestration varies among dissimilar soils. The bioavailability of aged pollutants in soil could be measured by bioassays, mild solvent extraction, and soild-phase extractions. The sequestration could be affected by many factors including various soil properties, wetting and drying cycle, and the presence of cosolutes and NAPLs etc. The bioavailability and sequestration should be considered to determine the environmentally acceptable endpoint.
The effect of humidity on crystallization and polymorphic transformation of hydrous aluminum oxide under various humidity at $37^{\circ}$ was examined by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron micrograph, IR spectra and DTA. The humidity was an important factor influencing crystallization of hydrous aluminum oxide. The growth or crystal was strongly accelerated by humidity. The aging process is assumed that it is composed of two seperate steps, an increase of the diffraction around $36{\sim}42^{\circ}$, and an appearance and its development of the peak at $18{\sim}20^{\circ}$ of $2{\theta}$ value. The former is considered to be nucleation and the latter correspond to the growth period on crystallization. The crystalline form of aging products was various depending on the degree of humidity, directly it leads to the eventual formation of bayerite in more than 72%, $b{\"{o}}hmite$ in 50% and resembled to Nordstandite in 0% relative humidity, respectively but once formed, it was mostly stable in each surroundings and does not transform to the other more stable form in solid state even after aging for five years. The mechanism responsible for aging is further polymerization process of six-membered rings by deprotonation-dehydration reaction in which positively charged polynuclear hydroxy aluminum complexes formed in the presence of moisture are joined at their edges by double hydroxide bridges.

It is caused that insulation paper, which had got a lot of thermal stress by over-load after installation, should have been deteriorated in electrical and mechanical characteristics. Beside, insulation material is decreased the insulating property and accelerated aging of them in case of dielectric loss when transformers are manufactured with some moisture or transformers would have been them because of moisture-permeation. Therefore, in this study we experienced the influence of moisture content in case of the thermal aged insulation paper. we have measured tan 6 and breakdown voltage in the ratio of paper' moisture content before the aging and then taken the same tests again after insulation paper thermally accelerating-aged. There is a purpose to gain data for a life-design and to establish aging mechanism in order to continuously study life expectancy of the insulation paper
The ifluence of transformability and stabilized effects in tetragonal phase on the isothermal phase transformation of Y-TZP at low temperature were investigated. The transformability of Y-TZP powders were gradually increased with calcination temeprature and reached maximum at critical temperature, but when the Y-TZP powders were calcined above critical temperature, transformability of Y-TZP were gradually decreased with increasing calcination temperature. It was concluded that maximum transformability was appeared because particle size effects decreased and constrain effects increased with calcined temperature. The isothermal phase transformation during aging at 25$0^{\circ}C$ only observed in Y-TZP stabilized by constrain effects and the amounts of transformation during aging at 25$0^{\circ}C$ only observed in Y-TZP stabilized by constrain effects and the amount of transformed monoclinic phase during aging decreased with increasing constrain effects. From these results, the mechanism of isothermal phase transformation and degradation behaviors at low temperature in Y-TZP was concluded that occurred by decreasing of constrain effects due to stress relaxation at grian boundary.
In this study, as one of the developing ways of the functional elastomer, improvement of the functionality of CB-BR was attemped through stabilization. At first the stabilization effect of CB-BR and the concentration dependancy in CB-BR were determined. Then, triazine thiol derivative(BPTT) was synthesized by reacting p-aminodiphenylamine with cyanuric chloride. Further the functional mechanism and the effects of the antioxidants were investigated using BPTT together with other various antioxidants in liquid and solid states. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The aging of CB-BR depended on the concentration and temperature. Thus, at a low temperature of $50^{\circ}C$, the aging proceeded with gel formation; at high temperature above $100^{\circ}C$ and in above 4wt% concentration, the aging occured by the formation of gel. And in concentrations below that, the aging proceeds with a decomposition caused by oxygen attacked to elastomer molecules. 2) The effect of antioxidation of CB-BR in the liquid state was at it's best when the MBIZ and BPTT were used at $110^{\circ}C$, 4hrs after the oxidation. 3) The effect of antioxidation of CB-BR in the solid state was the best choice the simultaneous use of NDBC and BPTT at $50^{\circ}C$, 30days after the oxidation.
Objective : Peroxynitrite $(ONOO^-)$, formed from the reaction of $O_2^-$ and NO, is a cytotoxic species that can oxidize several cellular components such as proteins, lipids and DNA. It has been implicated in the aging process and age-related disease such as Alzheimer's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer and atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to investigate scavenging activities of $ONOO^-$ and its precursors. NO and $O_2^-$ and its scavenging mechanism using fluorescent probes, DCFDA, DAF-2 and DHR 123.. Methods : Psoralea corylifolia was crushed. The crushed Psoralea corylifolia was extracted 3 times, each time with 3 volumes of methyl alcohol at $60^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. The extract was filtered and evaporated under reduced pressured using a rotary evaporator to yield 16g. This was done to investigate scavenging activities of $ONOO^-$, NO, $O_2^-$ and its scavenging mechanism using fluorescent probes, DCFDA, DAF-2 and DHR 123. Results : After Psoralea corylifolia was added authentic $ONOO^-,\;{\cdot}\;O_2^-$ and NO was markedly scavenged. Also, $ONOO^-$ induced by $O_2^-$ and NO (these derived from SIN-1) was inhibited. The data showed a decrease in $ONOO^-$ mediated nitration of tyrosine through electron donation after Psoralea corylifolia was added. Data showed a dose-dependent correlation with inhibition of nitration of bovine serum albumin induced by $ONOO^-$, Furtheremore, LPS-induced ROS and RNS generation was blocked. Conclusions: These results suggest potential for use of Psoralea corylifolia as an effective $ONOO^-$ scavenger to counter the aging process and age-related diseases.
Objectives : Peroxynitrite($ONOO^-$), formed from the reaction of $O2^-$ and NO, is a cytotoxic species that can oxidize several cellular components such as proteins, lipids and DNA. It has been involved in the aging process and age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer and atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to investigate scavenging activities of $ONOO^-$ and its precursors, NO and $O_{2^-}$ and its scavenging mechanism of Zingiberis Rhizoma (ZR). Methods : To investigate scavenging activities of $ONOO^-,\;NO,\;O_{2^-}$ and its scavenging mechanism, we used fluorescent probes like DCFDA, DAF-2 and DHR 123. The $ONOO^-$ scavenging activity on ZR was assayed by measuring oxidized dihydrorhodamine 123 (DHR 123) by fluorometry. The scavenging efficacy was expressed as IC50, showing the concentration of each sample that is required to cause 50% inhibition of DHR 123 oxidation. In a separate study, the protective effect of ZR on $ONOO^-$-induced nitration of bovine serum albumin was investigated through immuno-assay with a monoclonal anti-nitryrosine antibody, and a horseradish peroxidase-conjugated anti-mouse secondary antibody from sheep. Results : ZR markedly scavenged authentic $ONOO^-,\;O_{2^-}$ and NO. It also inhibited $ONOO^-$ induced by $O_{2^-}$ and NO which are derived from SIN-1. The data demonstrated that ZR led to decreased $ONOO^-$ mediated nitration of tyrosine through electron donation. It also inhibited the nitration of bovine serum albumin induced by $ONOO^-$ in a dose-dependent manner. Furtheremore, it blocked LPS-induced ROS and RNS generation. Conclusions : These results suggest that ZR can be developed as an effective $ONOO^-$ scavenger for the prevention of aging process and age-related diseases.

Root barks of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews (PS) was reported as contraindicated drugs of pregnancy by many Korean medical classics. Recently, a major ingredient component of PS, paeonol was reported that has contraceptive effect on early pregnancy in rats. However, the accurate molecular mechanism is not clear. In this study, we showed that PS decreased the expression of receptor for leukemia inhibitory factor (LIFR) in human endometrial Ishikawa cells at non-toxic dose, although the expression of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) was increased by PS. In addition, PS inhibited the adhesion of human trophoblastic JAR cells onto Ishikawa cells. Given importance of LIF-LIFR signaling pathway in the process of embryo implantation, the decreased LIFR expression by PS will be a good explanation on the PS- or its ingredient compounds-induced contraception.
