  • Since long ago, there has been a saying that "Drink water to quench thirst, drink alcohol to remove anguish and anxiety, and drink tea to recover from fatigue and refresh mind." Tea is really better for body and mind than water when it is drunken long and is valuable Jinda(眞茶) given by mother nature. In particular, curing tea reflecting characteristics of climate changes in all seasons helps in keeping health. Since tea contains the Yin-Yang system, which is a philosophical ideology of ancient people, old predecessors knew which tea they should brew and drink for curing in harmony with Yin and Yang. As a factor that influences component changes of tea, a complex interaction of heaven, earth and man is important and especially, mind of a person to handle tea is most important. Tea is a natural curing drink, which plays a role as a bridge between humans and nature.

  • Background: In Japan, more than 60% of employees are reported to suffer from anxiety and stress. Consequently, Japanese society has begun to address such important issues as psychogenic disability and job-related suicide. Furthermore, given the aging of society and the surge in the number of elderly people requiring care, it is necessary to adequately and proactively support employees who care for their elderly relatives. The purpose of the present study was to investigate caregiver burden in caring for elderly relatives and work-related stress factors associated with mental health among employees. Methods: We studied 722 men and women aged 18-83 years in a cross-sectional study. The K10 questionnaire was used to examine mental health status. Results: The proportion of participants with a high K10 score was 15% (n = 106). Having little conversation with their supervisor and/or coworkers significantly increased the risk of depression [odds ratio (OR) 1.8], as did high job overload (OR 2.7) and job dissatisfaction (OR 3.8), compared with employees who frequently conversed with their supervisor and/or coworkers. Caring for elderly relatives as a prominent characteristic of an employee was a significant risk factor for depression (OR 2.1). Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that employees who were caring for elderly relatives were significantly associated with an increased risk of depression. To prevent depressive disorders, it may be important to focus on reducing the work-caregiving role conflict, as well as enhancing employees' job control and better rewarding their efforts in the workplace.

  • In this study, PTMSP[poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne)]/PDMS[poly(dimethylsioxane)]-NaY zeolite and PTMSP/PDMS-NaA zeolite composite membranes were made to incorporate zeolite into PTMSP/PDMS graft copolymer in order to improve the selectivity and thermal stability, the drop of permeability by physical aging effect during long period of time for the PTMSP membrane. To investigate the physico-chemical characteristics of composite membranes, the analytical methods such as FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, TGA, SEM, and GPC have been utilized. The gas permeability and selectivity properties of $H_2$ and $N_2$ were evaluated. The permeability of the PTMSP/PDMS-NaY zeolite and PTMSP/PDMS-NaA zeolite composite membranes than PTMSP/PDMS graft copolymer membrane increased, increased as zeolite content increased. On the contrary, the selectivity ($H_2/N_2$) of the composite membranes decreased as zeolite content increased. PTMSP/PDMS-NaA zeolite composite membrane showed better permeability and separation factor than PTMSP/PDMS-NaY zeolite composite membrane.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the intake pattern and the experience on the kimchi-making, and to analyze the taste preference of kimchi. The questionnaires have been collected from 473 college students in Taejon. Most students had taken baechu-kimchi, kkakduki, yeolmu-kimchi, dongchimi, and cheonggak-kimchi. They liked baechu-kimchi best, and then cheonggak-kimchi. Twenty-seven percent of students took kimchi every meal time and 53 % once a day. The rest 19.4% replied that they could take meals without kimchi. The male students ate more kimchi than the female(p<0.01). Sixty-five percent of them had tried the foreign foods made with kimchi and female had more experience than male(p<0.01). The taste of kimchi-japchae and kimchi-woodong was indicated as edible or taste very good by over two thirds of the students. Kimchi-pizza, kimchi-hamburger, and kimchi-spaghetti were evaluated as edible or taste good by the over half. The aging of kimchi was believed to be the most important factor to determine the taste. Students preferred kimchi which was weak in salty, sweet, and jot-kal taste, strong in hot taste, and proper in sour taste(well-fermented). Compared with the male, the female enjoyed kimchi having stronger sour and weaker jot-kal taste(p<0.01). More female students(43.5%) had experenced kimchi-making than the male(26.5%)(p<0.001). Three-fourth of them had made kimchi with their mother. Baechu-kimchi, cheonggak-kimchi, and dongchimi were recommended as the global food.

  • In popular music, soul music is becoming an evaluation criteria in Korea. Blues, a songer music that was singing and lamenting Filed Holler and their suffering in a vast land of black blood and sweat, which became the mother of music to understand our enthusiastic soul music. And the only spiritual haven, church music and important musicians. Especially in the 1960s Americans social background is the most important factor to understand the soul music of birth time. Our country, which has undergone tremendous colonial rule amid numerous foreign invasions, is naturally ashamed of its aging skies. For Black-Americans soul music is an expression and anger expression anger. However, many musicians, who are flooded with floods in our country, are destined to experience the essence of life. 'Soul music' the noble choice of choice music, is known to be the ultimate reminder of the misery of the eternal disaster. As soul music has become a powerful it is understandable that it has become an exaggeration.

  • Purpose: Gastric cancer has a high incidence and mortality rate in Korea. Despite a growing older population and an increase in the number of older patients with gastric cancer, the older patients are not willing to undergo surgery due to their operative risks. Hence, to determine the clinical characteristics and outcomes of gastric cancer surgery for them, we investigate factors influencing the treatment decision. Materials and Methods: Between January 1996 and December 2005, a total of 1,519 patients were classified into two groups; the younger age group between 41 and 69 years of age, and the older age group of 70 years or older. The analysis conducted included patient characteristics, accompanying disorders, related American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade, pathological characteristics and survival rate for each age group. Results: Significant differences were found in the ASA grade (P<0.001) and the number of accompanying disorders (P<0.001) between the two groups. The average length of hospital stay after surgery was 14.5 days in the younger age group, and 13.3 days in the older age group (P=0.065). The average survival time was 47.5 months in the younger age group, and 43.2 months in the older age group (P<0.001). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that there was more number of accompanying disorders with a high surgical risk in the older age group. However, there was no significant difference between the older and younger age groups in terms of the incidence of complications, under the given disease conditions and if proper management was provided.

  • In this study, we investigated the protective effects of processed Panax ginseng, sun ginseng (SG) against the UVB-irradiation on epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts. Pretreatment of SG in HaCaT keratinocytes and human dermal fibroblasts reduced UVB-induced cell damage as seen by reduced lactate dehydrogenase release. We also found that SG restored the UVB-induced decrease in anti-apoptotic gene expression (bcl-2 and bcl-xL) in these cells, indicating that SG has an anti-apoptotic effect and thus can protect cells from cell death caused by strong UVB radiation. In addition, SG inhibited the excessive expression of c-jun and c-fos gene by the UVB in HeCaT cells and human dermal fibroblasts. We also demonstrated that SG may exert an anti-inflammatory activity by reducing the nitric oxide production and inducible nitric oxide synthase mRNA synthesis in HaCaT keratinocytes and human dermal fibroblasts. This was further supported by its inhibitory effects on the elevated cyclooxygenase-2 and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ transcription which was induced by UVB-irradiation in HaCaT cells. In addition, SG may have anti-aging property in terms of induction of procollagen gene expression and inhibition of the matrix metalloprotease-1 gene expression caused by UVB-exposure. These findings suggest that SG can be a potential agent that may protect against the dermal cell damage caused by UVB.
