The purpose of the present study was to investigate the age-related and encoding-, or retrieval- conditions-related differences in recall and to assess any possible interaction between encoding and retrieval conditions. 108 first and fifth grade children and college adults were presented a 30 item set of pictures for recall it a 2-trial study-test procedure. The data were analyzed in 3(age) x 3(encoding condition) x 3(retrieval condition) x 2(trials) mixed analyses of variance with repeated measures on the last factor. The results indicated the age-related differences in recall and encoding conditions-related differences in recall in the fifth-graders and college adults. Also, the first and fifth grade children's recall was influenced by retrieval conditions. The fifth graders' recall was a function of the interaction of encoding and retrieval conditions.
The purpose of this study were to examine the perception and behavior for preparing their old age. In order to achieve this purpose, a survey was conducted with 723 adults from Daegu and Kyungpook. Major findings of this study are as follow: First, there were statistically significantly different perception for preparing their old age according to the personal variables such as gender, age, education, marriage status, occupation and income. Second, there were statistically significantly different perception for preparing their old age according to the elderly-related variables such as taken the elder program, interests in media for elderly, the opinion on living together with the aged, contact with aged and the opinion about contact with aged. Third, there were statistically significantly different behavior for preparing their old age according to the personal variables such as gender, age, religion, education, marriage status, occupation and income. Finally, there were statistically significantly different behavior for preparing their old age according to the elderly-related variables such as taken the elder program, interests in media for elderly, the opinion on living together with the aged and the opinion about contact with aged.
The purposes of this study were ; (1) to investigate attitudes toward Korean clothing in relation to 3 aspects of clothing behavior , and in relation to attitudes toward women's role, age and education, and (2) to ascertain the extent to which Korean clothing was used and valued. Clothing measures consisted of statements dealing with positive and negative attitudes toward psychological and practical aspects of Korean clothing, frequency of use of Korean clothing, and modesty and confirmity -individuality measure. The measure of attitudes toward women's role consisted of items selected form the Inventory of Feminie Values and the Sex Role Ideology Scale. Product-moment correlation was used to analyze the data which consisted of the responses of 700 adult Korean women to questionnaires administered by the researcher. The results obtained are as follows : 1) Positive attitudes toward Korean clothing for both psychological and practical aspects were, (1) related negatively to nontraditional attitudes toward women's role and education, and (2) related positively to age, frequency of wearing Korean clothing and modesty in clothing. 2) Negative attitudes toward Korean clothing for practical aspect was related negatively to age and education , whereas, the psychological aspect was negatively related to attitudes toward women's role. 3) Conformity-individuality in clothing was related positively to attitudes toward women's role and education. 4) Modesty in clothing was related negatively to attitudes toward women's role and education, conformity individuality, and was related positively to age. 5) In 1945 most of the subjects over 51 -year-old wore Korean clothing always or most of time, whereas, about 1/3 of them wore the same in 1976 , Only 4% of the total participants regardless of their ages wore Korean clothing for everyday life in 1976. 6) In general , highly positive attitudes toward Korean clothing were found on psychological aspect, whereas, highly negative attitudes toward Korean clothing were found on practical aspect.
This study was carried out to know the change of age-related hand function. 210 adults without neurosurgical and orthopedic disability from 15 to 90 years of age participation this study voluntarily. The results are as followings. 1. The hand function decreased according to age increasing. 2. The dominant and non-dominant hand function was decreased in ever-sixty age groups in the subtests of writing, card turning small common objects, simulated feeding, large light objects and large heavy objects greatly, but decreased between forty and fifty age groups in checkers greatly. 3. The dominant hand function was more excellent than non-dominant hand. 4. The dominant and non-dominant hand function was statistically significant between age groups(p<0.01). 5. The one-way ANOVA of subtests according to age increasing revealed significant statistically(p<0.01). 6. The correlation coefficients between subtests and age increasing revealed significant statistically in the dominant and non-dominant hand(p<0.01).
The present study was aimed to investigated whether there are age-and sex-related differences in serum levels of lipid peroxides, retinol , and $\alpha$-tocopherol in Korean adults. The subjects were 441 persons , including 268 men and 173 women. Those of each sex were divided into four age group : 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-65 years, and their lifestyles and serum levels were compared . Men smoked and drank less as age increased , but 99.9% of women of did not smoke and only 11% drank more than once a month. Lipid peroxides of males increased gradually with age, while those of females showed greater levels in the 50-65 years group thon younger groups. Lipid peroxides, retinol and $\alpha$-tocopherol concentrations, which were adjusted for age, were significantly higher in males than in females. Lipid peroxide levels adjusted for total lipid were positively correlated with age in males than in females. Serum levels of $\alpha$-tocopherol adjusted for total lipid were positively correlated with age both in males and in females , while retinol was neither. The results indicate that serum levels of lipid peroxides, retinol , and $\alpha$-tocopherol are affected by age and that the response could be different between males and females.
The Influence of age on the endothelial modulation of angiotensin II (AII)-induced contractile response was investigated in isolated aortic rings of rats ranging in age from 0.7 to 20 months. Hemoglobin and L-NAME were used to examine whether age-related changes in the EDRF-releasing system were involved in endothelial modulation of All-induced contraction in rat aorta. In all five age groups (0.7, 1.5, 3, 6, 20 months), hemoglobin (10 ${\mu}$M) significantly enhanced All-induced contractile response only in aorta with endothelium intact. L-NAME (10 ${\mu}$M) Produced a significant enhancement in All responses in endothelium-intact aortas from rats aged 0.7 and 1.5 months, but it had no effect in aortas from older rats aged 6 and 20 months. Indomethacin (10 ${\mu}$M) did not affect All-induced contractile responses in both endothelium intact and removed aortas from rats at the age of 0.7 to 20 months. Hemoglobin (10 ${\mu}$M) abolished acetylcholine-induced relaxation response in aortas from young and old rats. L-NAME completely abolished the relaxation in aortas from young (0.7 and 1.5 months), but incompletely in aortas from older (6 and 20 months) rats. The sensitivity of endothelium-dependent relaxation to A23187 increased with age between ages of 0.7 and 6 months, with no further increase noted up to 20 months of age. These results suggest that endothelial modulation of AII-induced contraction in rat aorta might involve age-related alteration in EDRF-releasing system, probably via post-receptor mechanism.
In order to promote well-being during old age, it is important to start preparing early on for the later life. Based on this thesis, this study examined attitudes of the middle-aged women residing in rural towns on their preparation for old age as well as related variables. For this purpose, survey data from 200 individuals were analyzed using a SAS program. The overall degree of preparation for old age was quantified as about 67 points out of a 100 possible points. The variables that affected the level of preparedness include attitude toward using a paid nursing home ($\beta$=.23), type of agricultural work they engage in ($\beta$=-.21), who do you think is a supporter during your old age($\beta$=.20)], type of decision-making in the household ($\beta$=.17). The explanatory power of such variables as standards of living ($\beta$=.18), family type ($\beta$=-.18), recognition of the entrance of old age ($\beta$=.17), and preparation behavior for old age ($\beta$=.15) were partially proved in three sub-areas (economical, emotional, and leisure areas) of preparation. The groundwork of this study could be used as basic materials to develop an educational program to improve the attitudes toward preparation for old age.
Purpose: The research was to identify menstrual regularity & mental health-related factors on unmarried women of childbearing age and provide a raw material in terms of setting up health policy. Methods: The KNHANE V-3 (The Fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) was used and implemented through spss 18.0. Results: In general characteristics, there wasn't any remarkable difference between 20s and 30s. Looking further Mental health-related factors, stress was higher in 30s (p=.010). In 30s of irregularity mensutration women, it was accounted for 12.5% over than 3months experienced. General characteristics varied by menstrual regularity were age (p=.044), education level (p=.035) and in terms of mental health-related factors, they were stress (p=.044), sleeping time (p=.039). Multiple regression analysis was carried out to identify how influential these factors are on menstrual regularity. As a result, age, education level, sleeping time & stress was the most influence factors. Conclusion: The research had some limitations to specify and approach the feature of target in depth through KNHANE V-3. Thus, if the basic analysis regarding the menstrual problem in relation to local society was conducted on the basis of the result of research, it could help developing the promotion of health program and make the application easier.
Purpose: This study compared factors related to fear of falling among women in the early phase of old age based on hand grip strength. Methods: Researchers obtained data of 1,071 women who had participated in the 4th Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging. Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Results: In both groups, fear of falling was positively correlated with falling experience within two years, osteoarthritis-related leg pain, depression, and instrumental daily life abilities; however, self-rated health was negatively correlated. In the low hand grip strength group, self-rated health, osteoarthritis-related leg pain, and hand grip strength accounted for 21.3% of the variance regarding fear of falling. In the normal hand grip strength group, age, self-rated health, fall experience within two years, osteoarthritis-related leg pain, and depression significantly accounted for 16.6% of the variance regarding fear of falling. Conclusion: In applying interventions to prevent falling in women in the early phase of old age, health care workers must verify if women have low hand grip strength and determine whether to focus on fitness improvement through exercise interventions or consider psychological interventions for depression.
The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related to the parental role in satisfaction and parenting behaviors. The subjects were 102 employed mothers and 110 unemployed mothers of 5-year-old children living in Seoul, Korea. The measures were questionnaire, the Parental Role Satisfaction Scale and the Parenting Behaviors Scale. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, frequency, percentile, mean, correlation, multiple regression and Chow-test. Consistent with Belsky's model of the determinants of parenting, the parental role satisfaction and parenting behaviors of both employed and unemployed mothers were influenced by child characteristics, parent characteristics, and family factors. Results showed that the parental role satisfaction of both employed and unemployed mothers was correlated to child's birth order, temperament and health of child, mothers' and fathers' age, fathers' educational level, and family income. Parenting behaviors were also correlated to sex of child, child's birth order, temperament of child, parental educational level, and family income for employed mothers and to health of child, mothers' and fathers' age, mothers' educational level, and family income for unemployed mothers. Especially, father's age for employed mothers, and child's temperament for unemployed mothers, were the most strongly related variables for parental role satisfaction. On the other hand, family income for employed mothers, and fathers' age for unemployed mothers were the most strongly related variables for parenting behaviors.
