$AgNO_3$ has the characteristic is controlling the inhibition or promotion of particle growth by adsorbing onto specific facets of platinum nanoparticles. Therefore, in this study, $AgNO_3$ was added to control the shape of platinum nanoparticles during the liquid phase reduction process. Consequently, platinum cubes were synthesized when $AgNO_3$ of 1.1 mol% (with respect to the Pt concentration) was added into the solution. Platinum octahedrons were synthesized when 32 mol% (with respect to the Pt concentration) was added into the solution. These results demonstrate that the metal salt $AgNO_3$, effectively controlled the relative growth rates of each facet of Pt nano particles.
A few years ago, the plasmon-induced electronic coupling (PIEC) model was proposed in the literature to explain small changes in the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) in nanogap systems. If this model is correct, it will be very helpful in both basic and application fields. In light of this, we carefully reexamined its appropriateness. Poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) used in the earlier work was, however, never a proper layer, since most adsorbates not only adsorbed onto Ag nanoparticles sitting on P4VP but also penetrated into the P4VP layer deposited initially onto a flat Ag substrate, ultimately ending up in the SERS hot sites. Using 1,4-phenylenediisocyanide and 4-nitrophenol as the affixing layer and the foreign adsorbate, respectively, we could clearly reveal that the PIEC model is not suited for explaining the Raman signal in a nanogap system. Most of the Raman signal must have arisen from molecules situated at the gap center.
In present work, the anti-bacterial effect of silver/activated carbon (Ag/C) composites prepared by the ${\gamma}$-irradiation of $AgNO_3$ solution on Escherichia coli (E. coli) has been studied. Characteristics of the Ag/C composites were identified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The inhibitory concentration of E. coli was found to be 0.387 ppm and the sterilizing concentration for the tested organism was 1.017 ppm. These results support the evidence that Ag/C composites have strong antibacterial activity to E. coli.
Pd on charcoal particles were prepared by wet impregnation to develop commercial catalyst for aerobic benzyl alcohol oxidation. Especially, one of room temperature ionic liquids, [Hmim][$PF_6$], was used as an effective solvent in the synthesis to improve the metal dispersion of the catalysts. Among the Pd/Charcoal with various Pd concentrations, 7.5 wt% catalyst showed the higher catalytic activity and stability. Moreover, Ag was used as a promoter with various ratios in catalyst preparation. Under identical reaction conditions, the catalyst with 9 : 1 of Pd and Ag weight ratios was most active due to higher metal dispersion.
Among the various roll-to-roll printing technologies such as gravure, gravure-offset, and reverse offset printing, reverse offset printing has the advantage of fine patterning, with less than 5 ${\mu}m$ line width. However, it involves complex processes, consisting of 1) the coating process, 2) the off process, 3) the patterning process, and 4) the set process of the ink. Each process demands various ink properties, including viscosity, surface tension, stickiness, and adhesion with substrate or clich$\acute{e}$; these properties are critical factors for the printing quality of fine patterning. In this study, Ag nano ink was developed for reverse offset printing and the effect of polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP), used as a capping agent of Ag nano particles, on the printing quality was investigated. Ag nano particles with a diameter of ~60 nm were synthesized using the conventional polyol synthesis process. Ethanol and ethylene glycol monopropyl ether(EGPE) were used together as the main solvent in order to control the drying and absorption of the solvents during the printing process. The rheological behavior, especially ink adhesion and stickiness, was controlled with washing processes that have an effect on the offset process and that played a critical role in the fine patterning. The electrical and thermal behaviors were analyzed according to the content of PVP in the Ag ink. Finally, an Ag mesh pattern with a line width of 10 ${\mu}m$ was printed using reverse offset printing; this printing showed an electrical resistivity of 36 ${\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ after sintering at $200^{\circ}C$.

The influence of starting precursor powders on the phase formation and transport properties of Bi-2223/Ag tapes has been studied. The experimental results show that the average particle size of precursors as fine as 1.64 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 1.51 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ can still increase the transport properties. The J$_{c}$-B behavior is also enhanced in tapes fabricated with powders in finer particle sizes. However, at higher magnetic fields, J$_{c}$ of tape started from the powder with the finest particles drops rapidly at the direction of H//c, which is possibly attributed to the small grain sizes and weak flux pinning ability that due to the short induction period at the initial stage of phase formation as the result of fine particles in precursor powder.der.

Honeycomb-patterned polyvinypyrrolidone (PVP) thin films coated with nanometer-sized silver particles were prepared using honeycomb-patterned polystyrene (PS) template films fabricated by casting a polystyrene solution under humid condition. Silver was first metallized on the patterned PS films via silver nitrate ($AgNO_3$) reduction using tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and a small amount of PVP as the reductant and dispersing agent, respectively. The effects of $AgNO_3$, TTF, and PVP solution concentrations during the reduction process in acetonitrile were determined to obtain a uniform silver-coated honeycomb-patterned PS film. Second, the silver-metallized patterned porous PS films were filled with high PVP concentration solutions via the spincoating process. Silver-coated patterned PVP films were obtained by peeling off the PVP layer from the template PS film after drying. The results show that the honeycomb-patterned PVP films uniformly coated with silver particles are conveniently obtained using the silver-coated patterned PS template, although the direct fabrication of these films using water droplets under humid conditions was not feasible because of the water solubility of PVP.
In this paper, shielding effectiveness(SE) of the shielding material of electromagnetic(EM) waves was investigated with actual experiments. The materials used in this study were made up of sputtering, film and powder of conductive materials - Cr, Al, Ag and Cu etc. Also, the polyester film was used as a base material. The experiment was carried out by using a shielding evaluator(Shielding box) TR17302 with an ADVANTEST spectrum analyzer, model R3361C. It was found from the experimental results that silver, copper, aluminum and chromium were good candidates as a shielding material against the EM waves with increasing the SE as the composite was laminated. The characteristics of the SE against the EM waves depended on a mode of preparation of specimen. The effects of density of particles on the SE were studied when the sputtering. The SE strongly depended on the electric resistance by density of sputtering and painting particles. SE increased as the density of particles was increasing.

The YBaCuO thick film was deposited by the electrophoresis in the solution with different dimension particles. The morphology of the films deposited from different particles size was compared. The powder made by sol-gel method has the submicron particles, which deposit the most smooth film, and without microcracks after sintering. After sintering of the deposited film, the zone-melting process was carried out in low oxygen partial pressure (100 Pa) and Ag was used as substrate. And the zone-melted YBaCuO was studied by XRD.
Silver nitrate ($AgNO_3$) powder was mixed into a reformed pitch precursor. Then, the silver-containing pitch was melt spun to form round and "C" shape fibers. A wire mesh was inserted prior to the nozzle to improve the spinnability of the silvercontaining precursor pitch. Silver particles in the carbon fibers (CFs) were detected by XRD and TEM. These tests showed that silver particles were uniformly distributed and the total amount of silver remained constant during stabilization and carbonization. Next, the silver-containing CFs were activated by steam diluted in nitrogen gas. Silver particles accelerated the activation rate, but the specific surface areas of the silver-containing ACFs were similar to those of non-silver containing ACFs at the same burn-off levels. The specific surface area of the C-shaped activated carbon fibers was larger than that of the round activated carbon fibers. The likely reason is that the surface area of a C-shaped CF is about two times larger than that of a round CF when equivalent cross-sectional areas are compared. A small amount of silver particles in the periphery of the CFs was removed during the activation, but the remainder of silver was stayed within the ACFs.
