The aim of this work was to determine the behavior of alloy elements and compounds formed during solidification in the manufacturing process of the CuAgZrCr alloy under an oxidizing environment. Bulk and surface analysis techniques, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Raman and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the phases obtained in the solidification process. In order to focus the analysis on the on grain boundary interface, partial removal of the matrix phase by acid attack was performed. The compositional differences obtained by SEM-EDX, Raman and XPS on post-manufacturing materials allowed us to conclude that the composition of grain boundaries of the alloy is directly influenced by the oxidizing environment of alloy manufacturing.
The crystal structure of The crystal structure of $Ag^+$-Exchanged Zeolite A, $Ag_{4.6}Na_{7.4}-A$, dehydrated, treated with $H_2$, and evacuated, all at $350^{\circ}C$, has been determined by single crystal x-ray diffraction methods in the cubic space group Pm3m at $24(1)^{\circ}C;$ a = $12.208(2)\AA.$ The structure was refined to the final error indices R1 = 0.088 and R2 (weighted) = 0.069 using 194 independent reflections for which II_0$ > $3{\sigma}(I_0)$. On threefold axes near the centers of 6-oxygen rings, $7.4 Na^+$ ions and $0.6 Ag^+$ ions are found. Two non-equivalent 8-ring $Ag^+$ ions are found off the 8-ring planes, each containing about $0.6 Ag^+$ ions. Three non-equivalent Ag atom positions are found in the large cavity, each containing about 0.6 Ag atoms. This crystallographic analysis may be interpreted to indicate that $0.6 (Ag_6)^{3+}$ clusters are present in each large cavity. This cluster may be viewed as a nearly linear trisilver molecule $(Ag_3)^0$ (bond lengths, 2.92 and 2.94 $\AA;$ angle, $153^{\circ})$ stabilized by the coordination of each atom to a Ag^+$ ion at 3.30, 3.33, and 3.43 $\AA$, respectively. In addition, one of the silver atoms approaches all of the 0(1) oxygens of a 4-ring at $2.76\AA.$ Altogether $7.4 Na^+$ ions, $1.8 Ag^+$ ions, and 1.8 Ag atoms are located per unit cell. The remaining $1.0 Ag^+$ ion has been reduced and has migrated out of the zeolite framework to form silver crystallites on the surface of the zeolite single crystal.

$S_2O$-donor macrocyclic isomers incorporating a xylyl group in o- ($L^1$), m- ($L^2$) and p-positions ($L^3$) extract no metal ions except silver(I) from aqueous to chloroform phase. And the magnitudes of %Ex for silver(I) are in the order of $L^1$ > $L^2$ > $L^3$. Taking this result into account, $L^1$-$L^3$ were utilized as membrane active components to prepare potentiometric silver(I)-selective electrodes. The proposed macrocycles-based electrodes E1 ($L^1$), E2 ($L^2$) and E3 ($L^3$) exhibited comparable results which show considerable selectivity toward silver(I) over alkali, alkali earth and other transition metal ions. Comparative NMR study on $L^1$-$L^3$ and their complexes with silver(I) in solution was also accomplished. In addition, a unique sandwich-type complex $[Ag(L^1)_2]CIO_4$ was prepared from the assembly reaction of $L^1$ with $AgClO_4$ and structurally characterized by an X-ray diffraction analysis.

In this work, silver nitrate complexes of sulfanilamide-5-methyl-2-thiophene carboxaldehyde (SMTCA) ligand intercalated Zn/Al-layered double hydroxide [Ag-SMTCA-LDH] were synthesized for the potential application as an antimicrobial system. The SMTCA ligand was synthesized by reacting sulfanilamide and 5-methyl-2-thiophene carboxaldehyde in methanol and further complexation with silver nitrate metal ions [Ag-SMTCA]. The structural analyses of synthesized compounds confirmed an intercalation of Ag-SMTCA into Zn/Al-NO3-LDH by flake/restacking method. SMTCA, Ag-SMTCA and Ag-SMTCA-LDH were characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that Ag-SMTCA-LDH exhibited good antimicrobial activity against both gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, [B. subtilis], Staphylococcus aures, [S. aureus]) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli, [E. coli], Pseudomonas aeruginosa [P. aeroginosa]) bacteria as well as excellent antioxidant activity.

Generally Bi-2223/Ag tapes have a broad S/N transition region and their sheath is a good electric conductor. In this study, the current distribution between superconductor and metal sheath in HTS tapes were investigated. AC with its peak value above 10 times $I_{c}$ was applied to HTS tapes for around 6 cycles and V-I characteristics were measured. Using the resistance of the sheath and V-I curves, the current distribution between superconductor and metal sheath was calculated. When 150 $A_{p}$ was applied, more than 2/3 of the current flows through superconductor. However, in the case of 304 $A_{p}$, most of the applied current came to flow through the metal sheath at the 6th cycle.e.e.e.
This study deals with the crystal growth and the optical characteristics of CdS thin films activatedby silver. CdS:Ag thin films were deposited by using an electron beam evaporation(EBE) technique in vacuumof 1.5X 10-'torr, voltage of 4 kV, current of 2.5 mA and substrate temperature of 250$^{\circ}$C CdS:Ag photoconductivefilms prepared by EBE method show high photoconductivity after annealing at about 550"c for 0.5 h in air andAr gas.The grain size of CdS:Ag thin films annealed in Ar atmosphere (1 atm) was grown over 1 ym and the thicknessof the films is 4-5 pm. The analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns shows that the crystal structures are hexagonal. The diffraction line by (00.2) plane can only be observed, indicating that c-axis of hexagonal grows preferentiallyperpendicular to the substrate. The profiles of photoluminescence spectra of CdS:Ag films show Gaussian typecurves at room temperature, the maximum peak spectral sensitivity of CdS:Ag is located at the wavelength of520 nm.We annealed CdS:Ag thin films in air and Ar vapor in order to make the CdS photoconductors having theintensive photocurrent, the broad distribution of the photocurrent spectrum and the large value of the ratioof the photocurrent (pc) to the dark current(dc). We found that CdS:Ag thin films annealed in air atmospherewas the best one.air atmosphere was the best one.
With continuing progress of nanotechnologies and various applications of nanoparticles, one needs to develop a quick and fairly standard assessment tool to evaluate cytotoxicity of nanoparticles. However, much cytotoxicity studies on the interpretation of the interaction between nanoparticles and cells are non-mechanistic and time-consuming. Here, we propose a simple screening method for the analysis of the interaction between several AgNPs (5.3 to 64 nm) and fluorescence-dye containing vesicles ($12{\mu}m$) acting as a biomimetic cell-membrane. Fluorescence-dye containing vesicle was prepared using a fluorescence probe (1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatryene), which was intercalated into the lipid bilayer due to their hydrophobicity. Zeta potential of all materials except for bare-AgNPs (+32.8 mV) was negative (-26 to -54 mV). The morphological change (i.e., rupture and fusion of vesicle, and release of dye) after mixing of the vesicle and AgNPs was observed by fluorescence microscopy, and fluorescence image were different with coating materials and surface charge of x-AgNPs. In the results, we found that the surface charge of nanoparticles is the key factor for vesicle rupture and fusion. This proposed method might be useful for analyzing the cytotoxicity of nanoparticles with cell-membranes instead of in vitro or in vivo cytotoxicity tests.
We investigated the H I, He II and O III emission lines of the symbiotic star AG Peg, using the spectroscopic data secured at different phases in three periods at the Lick Observatory. We measured FWHM and the intensity of six O III Bowen lines and studied the efficiency of fluorescence mechanism. The mean FWHM of O III normal and Bowen lines observed during three time periods did not make much difference, while Bowen line intensities are about 4.0 times higher than the normal lines. Comparing the predicted and the observed ratios, we found that the observed intensities are higher than predicted intensities, except for O III ${\lambda}$ 3759.87. The O III ${\lambda}$ 3791.26 and 3754.67 intensity ratios observed only in 2001 are in good agreement with the predictions by Saraph and Seaton (1980). We obtained the Bowen efficiency parameter (R)=0.47 for 2002, but we could not find R for the other two periods of time. Because of this, based on the 2002 efficiency result, we calculated the intensity ratio of O III normal and Bowen lines relative to He II ${\lambda}$ 4685.68 and derive the efficiency variation with time period. The result showed that the efficiency is the highest in 1998 and the lowest in 2001. We conclude that the efficiencies with phase are caused by the electron temperature changes in the ionized gas. The efficiencies of AG Peg are likely to increase along with electron temperature. Our analysis results may be useful in understanding the physical conditions of the ionized shell in symbiotic star and the intensity ratio and efficiency variation.
Background: A great number of studies have shown that cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) genetic polymorphisms, CYP1A1 Msp I and CYP1A1 Ile/Val, might be risk factors for digestive tract cancers, including esophageal cancer (EC), gastric cancer (GC), hepatic carcinoma (HC), as well as colorectal cancer (CC), but the results are controversial. In this study, a meta-analysis of this literature aimed to clarify associations of CYP1A1 genetic polymorphisms with digestive tract cancers susceptibility in Chinese populations. Materials and Methods: Eligible case-control studies published until December 2013 were retrieved by systematic literature searches from PubMed, Embase, CBM, CNKI and other Chinese databases by two investigators independently. The associated literature was acquired through deliberate search and selection based on established inclusion criteria. Fixed-effects or random-effects models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs and 95%CIs). The meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.2 and Stata 12.0 softwares with stability evaluated by both stratified and sensitivity analyses. Moreover, sensitivity analysis and publication bias diagnostics confirmed the reliability and stability. Results: Eighteen case-control studies with 1,747 cases and 2,923 controls were selected for CYP1A1 MspI polymorphisms, and twenty case-control studies with 3, 790 cases and 4, 907 controls for the CYP1A1 Ile/Val polymorphisms. Correlation associations between CYP1A1 Ile/Val polymorphisms and digestive tract cancers susceptibility were observed in four genetic models in the meta-analysis (GG vs AA:OR= 2.03, 95%CI =1.52- 2.72; AG vs AA: OR=1.26, 95%CI =1.07-1.48; [GG+AG vs AA] :OR =1.42, 95%CI=1.20-1.68, [GG vs AA+AG]:OR=1.80, 95%CI =1.40-2.31). There was no association between CYP1A1 Msp I polymorphisms and digestive tract cancers risk. Subgroup analysis for tumor type showed a significant association of CYP1A1 Ile/Val genetic polymorphisms with EC in China. However, available data collected by the study failed to reveal remarkable associations of GC or HC with CYP1A1 Ile/Val genetic polymorphisms and EC, GC or CC with CYP1A1 MspI genetic polymorphisms. Conclusions: Our results indicated that CYP1A1 Ile/Val genetic polymorphisms, but not CYP1A1 Msp I polymorphisms, are associated with an increased digestive tract cancers risk in Chinese populations. Additional well-designed studies, with larger sample size, focusing on different ethnicities and cancer types are now warranted to validate this finding.

Angelica gigantis (AG), Rehamaninae Radix(RR), Paenia japonica (PJ), and Polygoni multiflori Radix (PM) have been used as medicinal plants to tonify the blood. General function of the drugs have been known to nourish blood and control the heart and liver meridians. Recently, several studies have proposed mechanisms by which some oriental medicinal herbs work on the immune system. However, it is uncertain whether aqueous-extract of these drugs has immunomodulatory effect yet. In this study, I investigated the immune promotive effects of the water-extracted AG, RR, PJ and PM. The water-extracted AG, RR, PJ and PM inhibited NO production and iNOS expression in LPS stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cell line. Among these extracts, AG and PM induced expression of IL-2 and IFN${\gamma}$ in mouse spleen cells. In the flow cytometry analysis, PM-stimulated mouse spleen cells showed an increase in B-cell phenotype (CD45R/B220). The oral administration of Polygoni multiflori water-extracts to mice having S-180 abdominal dropsy cancer prolonged life-span more than control mice. These data suggest that among these extracts, PM has cellular and humoral immune-enhancement effect through IL-2 and IFN${\gamma}$ cytokine production, the regulation of NO production in macrophage cells and the B cell production in spleen cells.
