  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to find out whether people still have problems with breathing after being quarantined for a certain period after being infected with COVID-19. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: A total of 36 subjects were included in this study. Subjects who have been quarantined after being infected with COVID-19 (the after-quarantine group, n=18) and those who have never had COVID-19 (the healthy group, n=18). Respiratory function was evaluated by subjects in resting state and after treadmill exercise. Subjects performed treadmill exercise at moderate intensity for 20 minutes. To compare the differences in respiratory function between groups, forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV1), and maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) were evaluated using a spirometer. Results: The result of the study, there was a significant difference in FVC in the after-quarantine group between resting and after treadmill exercise (p<0.05). In the healthy group, there was no significant difference in respiratory functions between resting and after treadmill exercise. Conclusions: The meaning of this result is that people who have been quarantined with COVID-19 have lower respiratory function than healthy people who are not infected with COVID-19.

  • Objective: To report a clinical case of Guillain-Barré syndrome-like neurological symptoms, including limb weakness, phantosmia, and nausea/vomiting after COVID-19 vaccination (AstraZeneca) that was improved by traditional Korean medicine (TKM) treatment. Methods: A 73-year-old male complained of extreme limb weakness, severe phantosmia, and nausea/vomiting after COVID-19 vaccination. No abnormalities had appeared in various radiological and laboratory tests, but the symptoms had continued to worsen for three months before visiting our clinic. Results: The patient was diagnosed with neurological complications suspicious of Guillain-Barré syndrome after COVID-19 vaccination. The patient was treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal drugs (Banhabakchulchunma-tang), and nasal inhalation therapy with Aquilariae Lignum. Three weeks after Korean medicine treatment, his neurological symptoms had improved. Nausea/vomiting and phantosmia continued to show improvement, and muscle strength was gradually recovered in both lower limbs. Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine could be a choice for the treatment of neurological complications after COVID-19 vaccination.

  • This study aimed to evaluate if patients under biologics have a lower risk of psoriasis flares after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination than other psoriatic patients. Of 322 recently vaccinated patients admitted for psoriasis at the Dermatological Psoriasis Unit during January and February 2022, 316 (98%) had no psoriasis flares after COVID-19 vaccination (79% under biologic treatment, 21% not biologically treated) and 6 (2%) presented psoriasis flares after COVID-19 vaccination (33.3% under biologic treatment, 66.6% not biologically treated). Overall, psoriasis patients under biologic treatment, developed fewer psoriasis flares after COVID-19 vaccination (33.3%), than patients not under biologic treatment (66.6%) (p=0.0207; Fisher's exact test).

  • Purpose: This study uses data from the 12th~17th Korea Welfare Panel (2017~2022) to analyze changes in depression scores due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the factors that influenced depression scores according to employment type. Methods: The difference in depression scores according to employment types before COVID-19 (12th~14th) and after COVID-19 (15th~17th) was analyzed. A fixed-effect model analysis was conducted before and after the occurrence of COVID-19. Results: After the outbreak of COVID-19, job satisfaction and family life satisfaction influenced the depression scores of regular wage workers. After the outbreak of COVID-19, annual income, health status, and satisfaction with family life affected the depression scores of non-regular wage workers. After the outbreak of COVID-19, leisure life satisfaction and family relationship satisfaction influenced the depression scores of self-employed. Self-esteem played a role as a control variable in lowering the depression scores of regular and non-regular workers, but did not play a role as a control variable for self-employed. Conclusion: Rather than the direct impact of infectious diseases such as COVID-19, social and economic changes resulting from policies implemented to prevent the spread affect workers' depression, and the impact varies depending on the type of employment. When implementing policies to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the future, policies that take employment type into consideration rather than uniform policies should be prepared, and measures for mental health also need to be prepared.

  • The fast development of vaccines against the novel coronavirus disease is among the most critical steps taken to control this potentially fatal viral disease. Like other vaccines, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines can also cause unwanted reactions. Erythema multiforme (EM) is among the oral mucocutaneous side effects of COVID-19 vaccines. This study aimed to comprehensively review the reported cases of EM since the global onset of COVID-19 vaccination. Data from 31 relevant studies regarding the type and dose of COVID-19 vaccines administered, time of initiation of symptoms, age, and gender of patients, site of involvement, patients' medical history, and treatment options were extracted. In total, 90 patients were identified with EM as a side effect of COVID-19 vaccination across studies. EM had the highest frequency after receiving the first dose of mRNA vaccines in older individuals. The first symptoms of EM appeared in less than 3 days in 45% and after 3 days in 55% of patients. EM is not a common side effect of COVID-19 vaccination, and fear of its occurrence should not impede vaccination.

  • There were growing reports of herpes zoster reactivation after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination, including a more severe form, herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO). A 35-year-old male presented HZO in his left V1 dermatome 10 days after his COVID-19 vaccine booster with Moderna (messenger RNA-1273). He had no history of chronic disease, immunocompromised, autoimmune, malignancy, or long-term immunosuppressive drug use. The rash improved without any further complications after being treated with oral valacyclovir for 7 days. This was a unique case of HZO after the COVID-19 vaccine in a booster setting in healthy younger adults. The association of herpes zoster after a COVID vaccine remained inconclusive and potentially coincidental, especially without the known risk factor. However, we would like to add a report to increase awareness among physicians and the general population, for early recognition and treatment with an antiviral.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the flow of change in perception of metaverse before and after COVID-19 through big data analysis. This research method used Textom to collect all data, including metaverse for two years before COVID-19 (2018.1.1~2019.11.30) and after COVID-19 outbreak (2020.1.11~2021.12.31), and the collection channels were selected by Naver and Google. The collected data were text mining, and word frequency, TF-IDF, word cloud, network analysis, and emotional analysis were conducted. As a result of the analysis, first, hotels, weddings, and glades were commonly extracted as social issues related to metaverse before and after COVID-19, and keywords such as robots and launches were derived, so the frequency of keywords related to hotels and weddings was high. Second, the association of the pre-COVID-19 metaverse keywords was platform-oriented, content-oriented, economic-oriented, and online promotion-oriented, and post-COVID-19 clusters were event-oriented, ontact sales-oriented, stock-oriented, and new businesses. Third, positive keywords such as likes, interest, and joy before COVID-19 were high, and positive keywords such as likes, joy, and interest after COVID-19. In conclusion, through this study, it was found that metaverse has firmly established itself as a new platform business model that can be used in various fields such as tourism, travel, festivals, and education using smart technology and metaverse.
