이젝터-폭기 시스템의 용존산소특성에 미치는 염도의 영향 (Effect of Salinity on Dissolved Oxygen Characteristics in an Ejector-Aerator)

  • 용존산소는 물속에 용해되어 있는 산소량으로 수질의 지표가 된다. 본 논문은 이젝터-폭기 시스템의 용존산소특성에 미치는 염도의 영향에 대한 실험적 연구를 목적으로 한다. 이젝터-폭기 시스템은 모터-펌프, 이젝터, 모터-블로어, 폭기 및 순환수조, 제어판넬 등으로 구성된다. 처리수의 용존산소량은 염도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였으며, 산소전달율의 정량적인 변수인 총괄 물질전달계수는 염도가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다.

  • Experimental study was conducted to increase the oxygen transfer efficiency of air diffusers in clean water. By measuring the bubble size from the bubbly two-phase flow visualization with several air diffusers, the size of air bubbles near the top surface of aeration tank seems to be independent on the diffuser types. Considering design parameters for the better break-up of larger bubbles around the air diffusers, advanced conceptual air diffusers using nozzle-type throat showing the higher oxygen transfer efficiencies were made.

  • 본 연구에서는 실제의 자동 폐수 정화시스템을 교육용으로 설계한다. 이 시스템은 필터조, 폭기조, 반응조 및 자외선 살균조 등 전체 4개의 부분으로 구성하고, PLC, DC모터, 솔레노이드 밸브, 분사기, 프로펠러, 프로파일, 스위치, 센서 등을 사용하여 구현한다. 또한 이 시스템은 대학 교육으로부터 습득한 전공 지식을 토대로 설계 및 제작되어진다. 폐수처리 시설을 간단하게나마 실제로 구현해 봄으로써 학생들은 창의력과 적응성을 키울 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 이 연구를 통하여 습득한 기술들이 필요 시에 관련 산업에 적용되어 질 수 있다.

Optimization of $\beta$-Galactosidase Production in Stirred Tank Bioreactor Using Kluyveromyces lactis NRRL Y-8279

  • This paper investigates the production and optimization of $\beta$-galactosidase enzyme using synthetic medium by Kluyveromyces lactis NRRL Y-8279 in stirred tank bioreactor. Response surface methodology was used to investigate the effects of fermentation parameters on $\beta$-galactosidase enzyme production. Maximum specific enzyme activity of 4,622.7 U/g was obtained at the optimum levels of process variables (aeration rate 2.21 vvm, agitation speed 173.4 rpm, initial sugar concentration 33.8 g/L, incubation time 24.0 hr). The optimum temperature and pH of the $\beta$-galactosidase enzyme produced under optimized conditions were $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0, respectively. The enzyme was stable over a pH range of 6.0-7.5 and a temperature range of $25-37^{\circ}C$. The $K_m$ and $V_{max}$ values for O-nitrophenol-$\beta$-D-galactopyranoside (ONPG) were 1.20 mM and $1,000\;{\mu}mol/min{\cdot}mg$ protein, respectively. The response surface methodology was found to be useful in optimizing and determining the interactions among process variables in $\beta$-galactosidase enzyme production. Hence, this study fulfills the lack of using mathematical and statistical techniques in optimizing the $\beta$-galactosidase enzyme production in stirred tank bioreactor.

Hydrodynamics and parametric study of an activated sludge process using residence time distribution technique

  • Hydrodynamic study of Activated Sludge Process (ASP) is important to optimize the reactor performance and detect anomalies in the system. Residence time distribution (RTD) study has been performed using LiCl as tracer on a pilot scale aeration tank (AT) and ASP, treating the pulp and paper mill effluent. The hydraulic performance and treatment efficiency of the AT and ASP at different operating parameters like residence time, recycle rate was investigated. Flow anomalies were identified and based on the experimental data empirical models was suggested to interpret the hydrodynamics of the reactors using compartment modelling technique. The analysis of the RTD curves and the compartment models indicated increase in back-mixing ratio as the mean hydraulic retention time (MHRT) of the tank was increased. Bypassing stream was observed at lower MHRT. The fraction of dead zone in the tank increased by approximate 20-25% with increase in recycle rate. The fraction of the stagnant zone was found well below 5% for all performed experiments, which was under experimental error. The substrate removal of 91% for Chemical oxygen demand and 96% for Biochemical oxygen demand were observed for the ASP working at a hydraulic mean residence time 39 h MRT with a 20% recycling of activated sludge.

NADH 센서를 이용한 생물학적 동시 탈질.질산화공정에서 질소, 인제거 영향인자 및 거동 평가 (Evaluation of Affecting Factors on N and P removal in Biological SND (Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification) Process with NADH Sensor)

  • In this study, the factors affecting biological N and P removal using SND (simultaneous nitrification and denitrification) process were investigated and evaluated to examine the possibility of treating N and P through SND with NADH by surveying N and P traces in an aeration tank. Variations of $NH_4^+$-N+$NO_3^-$-N concentration were used to estimate the degree of SND in each point (P2, P3, P4, P5) of the aeration tank and these variations showed that denitrification efficiency in P2 (front zone), nitrification and denitrification efficiencies in P4 (middle zone) were 67%, 86% and 39%, respectively. When $PO_4^{-3}$-P concentration was analyzed in each point of the aeration tank, it was shown that $PO_4^{-3}$-P concentration coming into P2 was 1.25 mg/L, which increased to 2.22 mg/L by P release in P2 zone and then decreased to 0.74 mg/L by P uptake in P4. Consequently, we were able to estimate which high P removal efficiency observed in this study was caused by biological phosphorus removal. To determine the operating factors affecting effluent T-N, we analyzed the correlation among FN/M ratio, C/N ratio, Temp., SRT etc and these results showed that the correlation among FN/M ratio, C/N ratio and Temp was not high. However, the relationship of SRT and other parameters (effluent $NH_4^+$-N and effluent BOD) and the short SRT could have an affect on effluent $NH_4^+$-N and so effluent BOD could be increased. Thus, SRT operation should be controlled over 10 days. The results for analyzing the correlation between SRT and influent $NO_3^-$-N in order to investigate the operating factors affecting effluent T-P showed that T-P or $PO_4^{-3}$-P was not highly correlation with SRT, whereas $PO_4^{-3}$-P concentration increased along with increasing $NO_3^-$-N concentration into P2. Based on these results, we concluded, using regression analysis (R2=0.97), that effluent $PO_4^{-3}$-P concentration depends on $NO_3^-$-N concentration into P2.

PVDF 중공사막을 이용한 막생물반응기의 초기 운전조건 설정 및 여과수 재활용 (Initial Operating Condition of Membrane Bioreactor with PVDF Hollow Fiber and Permeate Reuse)

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 우리텍사의 PVDF계 중공사 막을 4 bundle 씩 묶어 모듈을 제작하였으며, 처리용량은 10 ton/day로 설정하여 반응조 내 부유고형물(suspended solid; SS) 의 농도구배가 없도록 하부로부터 간헐 폭기하는 방식을 선택하여 부산 수영하수처리장에 pilot plant를 설치하였다. Pilot plant는 정상 운전을 위하여 하수처리장의 폭기조로부터 유입된 mixed liquor suspended solid (MLSS) 1,000 ppm 정도의 원수를 시험 여과하고, 세척수로 2회 세척, 10% 에탄올 용액으로 1회 세척, 그리고 NaOCl 5% 용액으로 1회 세척 과정을 거치고 마지막으로 세척수로 최종 세척한 후 운전하였다. 결과적으로, 화학세정 후 membrane bioreactor (MBR) 내의 잔류수를 원수로 운전한 결과 SS 제거효율이 99.9% 이상을 보이고 있는 결과와 폭기조 유입수를 원수로 운전하여, 여과 수량은 초기 조건에 비해 16% 감소, suction pressure 는 30% 상승하고 있음을 확인한 결과를 연속 운전 조건으로 설정하였다. 연속 운전한 결과, 유입수 mixed liquor suspended solid (MLSS)가 1,900 mg/L의 조건에서 SS 제거 효율은 99.99% 이었으며 여과수량은 $42{\sim}52L/m^2$ h, suction pressure가 16~20 cmHg로 안정 상태로 운전되고 있음을 확인하였다. 다만, 여과수 저장조의 유출구와 유입구에서의 SS 제거 효율에 영향을 미치는 조류의 발생 억제에 관한 방법이 재고되어 여과수의 재이용 범위를 설정할 필요가 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Study of different flexible aeration tube diffusers: Characterization and oxygen transfer performance

  • The research aims to study the different flexible rubber tube diffusers used in urban wastewater treatment processes and aquaculture systems. The experiment was conducted in small-scale aeration tank with different physical properties of the tubes that were used as aerators. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient ($k_La$), oxygen transfer efficiency (OTE) and aeration efficiency (AE) were measured and determined to compare the diffusers. Moreover, the bubble hydrodynamic parameters were analyzed in terms of bubble diameter ($d_B$) and rising velocity ($U_B$) by a high speed camera (2,000 frames/s). Then the interfacial area (a) and liquid-side mass transfer coefficient ($k_L$) can be calculated. The physical properties (tube wall thickness, tensile strength, orifice size, hardness and elongation) have been proven to be the key factor that controls the performance (kLa and OTE). The effects of hardness and elongation on bubble formation, orifice size and a-area were clearly proved. It is not necessary to generate too much fine bubbles to increase the a-area: this relates to high power consumption and the decrease of the kL. Finally, the wall thickness, elongation and hardness associated of the flexible tube diffuser (tube No. 12) were concluded, to be the suitable properties for practically producing, in this research.

응집제를 활용한 간헐포기 MBR공정에서 순간플럭스 증가가 분리막에 미치는 영향 평가 (The Estimating an Effect of Rapid Flux Increase to a Membrane in the Intermittent Aeration MBR Process Using Alum Treatment)

  • 폭기조를 간헐 폭기로 운전하여 호기/무산소(oxic/anoxic) 시간 비율과 무산소 조건에서 호기 조건으로의 전환시 공기세정이 투과플럭스 및 투과압력에 미치는 영향을 조사하였으며, 호기조건에서 무산소 조건으로 전환 시 펌프의 회전력에 의한 흡인압력이 투과플럭스와 투과 압력에 주는 영향을 조사하였다. 또한 긴 슬러지체류시간(SRT; Sludge Retention Time)과 고농도의 MLSS 유지시에 발생하는 미생물 대사산물이 분리막에 미치는 영향과 응집제를 투여하였을 때 분리막에 작용하는 플러스 효과에 대하여 조사하여 보았다. 호기/무산소(oxic/anoxic)의 시간비율에 따른 유기물 및 질소 제거효율을 조사해본 결과 폭기 40 비폭기 20분의 시간배분 조건에서 처리효율이 가장 양호하였으므로 호기/무산소(oxic/anoxic) 조건을 40/20분으로 한 조건(step-7)에서 약품주입 실험을 수행하였다. 액체 명반을 폭기조에 직접 투여할 경우 약품의 농도가 질산화 및 탈질 미생물에 많은 영향을 주는 것을 알 수 있었으며, MBR공정에서 인 1 mg/L를 제거하기 위해서는 약 0.7 mg/L의 액체명반이 필요한 것으로 확인되었다.

하수(下水) 처리장(處理場)에서 정수조폐액(淨水槽廢液)의 혐기성소화(嫌氣性消化) 처리(處理)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Anaerobic Digestion of Thickened Septage at Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant)

  • Anaerobic Digestion of thickened septage was investigated in this study. Thickening could reduce the volume of septage to be treated to about 40% with 12hr HRT. The VS and BOD removal efficiencies were respectively 28 to 45%, and 75% when digested the thickened septage with 30 day HRT Or $1.4kgVS/m^3/d$. The BOD removal efficiency could be increased to about 90% with subsequent settling tank with about 6 hours HRT. The gas production rate was 0.22 to $0.35m^3gas/kgVSadd$($0.75m^3gas/kgVSrm$), or $1.32m^3gas/kgBOD_{rm}$. In addition, the supernatant of thickener could be returned to the aeration tank treating domestic sewage. In this case, a BOD loading rate of 0.5 to $0.7kgBOD/m^3/d$ or 0.5kgBOD/kgMLVSS/d was proposed for 80% BOD reduction.
