  • In this paper, we propose a power control scheme for effective serving cell selection in Relay environment of 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Tenn Evolution)-Advanced system. A conventional serving cell selection scheme which does not use channel states of backhaul link has a problem that this scheme does not select serving cell supporting maximum throughput. Also, conventional proposed serving cell selection schemes that eNB or RN transmits channel states of backhaul link have problems that conventional schemes need to additional data transmission, serving cell selection process complexity is increased because UE considers channel states of backhaul link, and received signal is degraded because strong interference which is transmission signal from RN. Therefore, for solve these problems, we propose power control scheme that RN control transmission power according to received SINR (Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio) of backhaul link. By extensive computer simulation, we verify that the power control Relay scheme is attractive and suitable for the Relay environment.

  • Natural Organic Matter (NOM) is a precursor of disinfection by products. Recently, with the increase in NOM concentration caused by a large amount of algae, the creation of disinfection by-products is becoming a big issue. Therefore, in this study, PAC+Membrane+F/A hybrid process was organized to control disinfection by-products in small-scale water treatment plants. The optimal dosage of PAC was set at 20 mg/L through Lab. scale test. Also, it is judged that NOM concentration must be less than 1.0 mg/L to meet the recommended criteria of drinking water quality monitoring items of disinfection by-products during chlorination. The existing conventional water treatment process was compared to the independent F/A process and the PAC+Membrane+F/A hybrid process through pilot plant operation, and the result showed that there is a need to apply an advanced water treatment process to remove not only NOMs but also Geosmin caused by algae. Accordingly, it is considered that applying the PAC+Membrane+F/A process will help in controling a clogged filter caused by a large amount of algae and disinfection by-products created by chlorination and can be used as an advanced water treatment process to meet the recommended criteria of drinking water quality monitoring items.

  • Smart grid and intelligent transportation system draw significant interest since they are considered as one of the green technologies. These systems require a large number of sensors, actuators, and controllers. Also, machine-to-machine (M2M) communications is important because of the automatic control. The LTE-Advanced networks is preparing a set of functions that facilitate the M2M communications, and particularly the development of an efficient call admission control mechanism is critical. A method that groups MTC devices according to QoS constraints and determines the admission depending on the QoS satisfaction is limitedly applied only if the data transmission period and the maximum delay are identical. This paper proposed a call admission control that is free from such limitation and also optimizes the admission process under the certain condition of the transmission period and maximum delay. The theorems regarding the proposed method are presented with the proofs. The simulations confirms its validity and shows it is better in call admission probability than existing works.

  • The Voice recognition is one of convenient methods to communicate between human and robots. This study proposes a speech recognition method using speech recognizers based on Hidden Markov Model (HMM) with a combination of techniques to enhance a biped robot control. In the past, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Dynamic Time Wrapping (DTW) were used, however, currently they are less commonly applied to speech recognition systems. This Research confirms that the HMM, an accepted high-performance technique, can be successfully employed to model speech signals. High recognition accuracy can be obtained by using HMMs. Apart from speech modeling techniques, multiple feature extraction methods have been studied to find speech stresses caused by emotions and the environment to improve speech recognition rates. The procedure consisted of 2 parts: one is recognizing robot commands using multiple HMM recognizers, and the other is sending recognized commands to control a robot. In this paper, a practical voice recognition system which can recognize a lot of task commands is proposed. The proposed system consists of a general purpose microprocessor and a useful voice recognition processor which can recognize a limited number of voice patterns. By simulation and experiment, it was illustrated the reliability of voice recognition rates for application of the manufacturing process.

  • Recently, advanced sensors and communication technologies have been widely applied to advanced safety vehicles for reducing traffic accidents and injury severity. To apply the advanced safety vehicle technologies, it is important to quantify safety benefits, which is a fundamental for justifying application. This study proposed a methodology for quantifying the effectiveness of the Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). When the proposed methodology is applied to 2008-2010 Gyeonggi-province crash data, ADAS would reduce about 10.18% of crashes. In addition, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking System, Lane Departure Warning System and Blind Spot Detection System are expected to reduce about 10.43%, 10.17%, 9.96%, and 10.18%, respectively. The outcomes of this study might support decision making for developing not only vehicular technologies but also relevant safety policies.

  • As the cumulative amount of spent fuel increases, the reliable and effective management of the spent fuel has become a world-wide mission. For this mission, KAERI is developing the Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process (ACP) as a pre-disposal treatment process for spent fuel. Conventional approach to the development of the process and the remote operation technology is to fabricate the process equipment on the same scale as the real environment and demonstrate the remote handling operation using simulated fuel called a mock-up test. But this mock-up test is expensive and time consuming, since the design may need to be modified and the equipment fabricated again to account for the problems found during a testing. To deal with this problem, we developed a digital mockup for the ACP. Also, for an effective utilization of the digital mockup, we developed user interface modules such as the data acquisition and display module and the external input device interface module. The result of this implementation shows that a continuous motion of the manipulator using the external device interface can be represented easily and the information display screens responded well to the simulation situation.

  • Advanced Phase Isolation Ditch (APID) process was studied to develop economic retrofitting technology, for the plants where retrofitting of common activated sludge process is required. In this study, to develop and apply the modified intermittently aeration mode as process control conditions for treating municipal wastewater, a demonstration plant was installed and operated in the existing sewage treatment plant of P city. During this study, the average effluent $BOD_5$, SS, T-N, and T-P concentrations were 6.3, 4.5, 10.0, and 1.3 mg/L. The modified mode decreased the nitrification capability more than the conventional mode in the application period. Nitrate in the anaerobic condition can have a negative effect on biological phosphorus removal. In the decreasing nitrate levels, the modified mode increased the biological ability of removal phosphorus more than the conventional mode in this study. Therefore, newly developed APID process with modified intermittent aeration mode can be one of the useful processes for stable organic matter and nutrients removal.

  • According to the defense-in-depth concept, not only a preventive strategy but also an integrated cyberattack response strategy for NPPs should be established. However, there are limitations in terms of responding to penetrations, and the existing EOPs are insufficient for responding to intentional disruptions. In this study, we focus on manipulative attacks on process data. Based on an analysis of the related attack vectors and possible attack scenarios, we adopt the Kalman filter to detect process anomalies that can be caused by manipulations of process data. To compensate for these manipulations and secure MCR operators' situational awareness, we modify the Kalman filter such that it can filter out the effects of the manipulations adaptively. A case study was conducted using a hardware-in-the-loop system. The results indicated that the developed method can be used to verify whether the displayed safety-related state data are reliable and to implement the required safety response actions.
