Purpose: This study was done to review and summarize trends in research related to image of nursing in Korea and to explore directions for future research. Methods: Thirty-five studies published from 2003 to 2014 were reviewed, and the analysis was performed according to criteria adopted from Kim & Lee (2003). Results: There was a three-fold increase in the number of studies compared to a prior analysis study. Of these studies 50% were carried out with nursing students and 71.4% were survey type research. Elementary school students, patients, and guardians had positive images of nursing compare to middle school students and health related personnel. Experience of hospital admission or patient visit did not influence the nursing image of participants. Satisfaction with nursing as a career and clinical practicum were related to nursing image among nursing students and their satisfaction, and their nursing professional value and self-esteem had a positive correlation with nursing image. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that recent trends of nursing research on nursing image indicate a need for further research to eliminate negative stereotypes and build a more professional image for nursing are recommended.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was To exam the skin and pressure sore and To evaluate the predictive validity for the new pressure sores risk assessment scale. Method: There was finally 211 neurosurgery subject admitted in Chung-Ang Univ. Hospital from Nov, 11, 2002 to Feb, 11, 2003. Data was collected three times per week from 48-72hr after admission until incidence of pressure sores or discharge or die. Inclusion criteria were; (1) no pressure sores at admittance, (2) at least 3 times assessment, (3) adults older than 16yrs, (4) patients consent to participate in study. Result: 1. 34 case of 211 developed pressure sores(11.6%). 2. The coccyx area was the most common occurrence site of pressure sores. 3. At the cutoff point 23 of sensitivity 100%, specificity 76.3% was higher in 2003 than specificity 63.8% at the cutoff point 26 of sencitivity 100% in 1991. 4. "Moisture" of subscale for pressure sores risk factor was the strongest predictor. Conclusion: This study shows that the New Pressure Sores Risk Assessment Scale still predict the risk of developing pressure sores in neurosurgical subject.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of a self-management program on symptom and functional status, health perception, and quality of life(QOL) of patients with CHF. Methods: Patients with CHF as defined through clinical judgment using the Framingham criteria and EF<50% were enrolled in the study (experimental: 21, control: 20). The symptom focused self-management program consisted of coping behaviors for symptoms including dyspnea, chest discomfort/pain, dizziness, ankle edema, and basic self-management including medications, diets, activity, lifestyle changes. Experimental group received an educational booklet after survey, and periodic telephone follow-up by a trained nurse. Data were collected the 3rd day after admission and at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after discharge using questionnaires. Results: Significant differences were found in the presence of symptoms, health perception, and QOL between groups during follow-up. Although no significant difference was found in functional status, the experimental group reported better functional status than the control group. Conclusion: By facilitating self-management of CHF using tailored interventions including education programs and telephone monitoring, it is expected that patients will be able to monitor their symptoms routinely, adhere to therapeutic regimen, and have a better QOL.

Purpose: This study aims to understand the influence of college entrance system-related factors and scores of college scholastic ability test on a first year nursing student's academic achievement. Method: Data collected include both a descriptive survey designed to assess college entrance system-related factors with respect to 182 nursing students attending a 4-year nursing college program and their test scores in the first year. The data were analyzed via descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test with Bonferroni's correction, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient through an SPSS 18.0 program. Results: Student academic achievement with regard to college entrance system-related factors exhibited significant divergence from first year grade point averages (hereafter GPA) and natural science grades. Conclusion: This study confirmed the existence of significant differences, depending on the factors regarding the college entrance system. As a result, conducting assessment to evaluate the level of basic knowledge before college entrance is highly recommended. Also recommended is the development of a support program for students projected to have difficulties with respect to their academic achievement.

The wireless communication network is evolving toward IMT-2000 for providing various multimedia services. In order to accomplish this ultimate goal the effective schemes are required which can dynamically utilize the limited wireless resources based on different traffic characteristics of various services. This paper proposes a novel bandwidth allocation and call admission control scheme to transmit multimedia traffic based on the bandwidth reservation procedure using direction estimation in the IMT-2000 This scheme estimates the position of mobiles based on the mliticriteria decision making in which uncertain parameters such as RSS(Received Signal Strength), the distance between mobile and base station the moving direction and the previous location are participated in the decision process using aggregation function in fuzzy set theory. Its effectiveness is investigated by simulation.
In this paper, a novel schedulability criteria is developed to provide handover calls with Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees in terms of both minimum available bandwidth, maximum tolerated packet delay, and other additive QoS constraints as required by the real-time mobile traffic. This requires prediction of the handover time using mobility trends on the mobile station, which is used as input to this work. After the handover time and the QoS are negotiated, the destination base station makes attempts to give priority to handover calls over new calls, and pre-reserves resources that will have more chance of being available during the actual handover.

Purpose: This study was to analyze the factors affecting ventilator-associated pneumonia with severe trauma patients. Methods: This study conducted from May 1, 2018 to May 31, 2018 based on the medical records of the intensive care unit of a university hospital from May 1, 2017 to April 30, 2018 in Gangwon province. The inclusion criteria were 1) Trauma intensive care unit patient, 2) older than 19 years 3) without pneumonia at the time of admission. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive, correlation analysis, ANOVA, t-tests, $x^2$-tests and regression. Results: The severe trauma patients had a total of 2,877 days receiving ventilator, and nine VAP cases. The overall infection rate was 4.0%, and the VAP incidence rate was 3.13 per 1000 ventilator days. VAP in severe trauma patient affected ICU stay(OR=1.03), mechanical ventilator applied day(OR=1.04). Conclusion: Therefore, the development of an individualized VAP prevention bundle and nursing intervention for patients with trauma will be needed and further studies. In addition, there were no findings regarding the relationship between VAP occurrence and the severity of multiple traumatic injuries, so further studies of these factors should be performed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) use in elderly patients admitted to hospitals after falls. Methods: The study surveyed 283 patients 65 or older admitted January 1-December 31, 2016. Data were collected from electronic medical records, and medications administered immediately prior to admission were examined. PIM use for patients was investigated using the Beers criteria, and data were analyzed by Chi-square test and independent ttest. Results: The average age of participants was 79.42± 8.16, and the study included 226 women (79.9%) and 57 men (20.1%). The average number of self-administered medications daily was 4.94± 3.68, and 55.1% took five or more medications. PIM use was found in 107 patients (37.8%). There was a significant difference in polypharmacy according to age, and the proportion of medical aid beneficiaries and prevalence of cardiocerebrovascular, endocrine, and other chronic diseases were higher in the polypharmacy and PIM use patients than in the non-polypharmacy and non-PIM use patients. The number of chronic diseases and medications taken were significantly high among polypharmacy and PIM use patients. Conclusion: It is necessary to minimize polypharmacy and PIM use, and establish a system for systematically evaluating and managing medication use to prevent falls in the elderly.
The increase in medical expenses for convalescent hospitals is increasing abnormally, which puts enormous burden on the National health insurance finances. This is a phenomenon that has been associated with the social phenomenon of rapid aging. The fact that the convalescent hospitals are paid the fixed amount per day for hospitalization became the incentive for some hospitals to use the patients as means of making money. And these hospitals intend to get regular care or take medicines at other hospitals in order to reduce medical expenses, even when the medical fee is paid. In order to prevent such financial leaks, the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service adjusted the patient group for inpatients in a hospital with the above behavior, and then cut the cost of medical care benefits. However, Above decision was canceled by the court on the grounds that there was no basis rule. However, based on the above case, I think that it can be an opportunity to draw up the problem and to improve of the Medical Fee System of hospital. The modified medical fee system can strengthen the medical function of the convalescent hospital. In addition, it seems reasonable to exclude admission for "physically disabled group". Even if admission is allowed for the physically disabled group due to social needs, it should be excluded from the National health insurance for the fianacial soundness and the sustainability of the system.
