  • Property of the compressive strength of high strength concrete was investigated in adiabatic temperature history considering hot-weather conditions. As a result, compressive strength of specimens subjected to high temperature history showed more than 120% at 3days of age compare to standard cured specimens. But, at 91days of age showed the incidence of strength less than 100%.

  • Solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs) can convert the chemical energy of fuel into electricity directly. With the rising fuel prices and stricter emission requirement, SOFCs have been widely recognized as a promising technology in the near future. In this study, lean premixed flame using the orifice swirl burner was analyzed numerically and experimentally. We used the program CHEMKIN and the GRI 3.0 chemical reaction mechanism for the calculation of burning velocity and adiabatic flame temperature to investigate the effects of equivalence ratio on the adiabatic flame temperature and burning velocity respectively. Burning velocity of hydrogen was calculated by CHEMKIN simulation was 325cm/s, which was faster than that of methane having 42 cm/s at the same equivalence ratio. Also Ansys Fluent was used so as to analysis the performance with alteration of swirl structure and orifice mixer structure. This experimental study focused on stability and emission characteristics and the influence of swirl and orifice mixer in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Systme burner. The results show that the stable blue flame with different equivalence ratio. NOx was measured below 20 ppm from equivalence ratios 0.72 to 0.84 and CO which is a very important emission index in combustor was observed below 160 ppm under the same equivalence region.

  • The influence of oxidant addition on soot formation is investigated experimentally with ethylene, propane and mixture fuel co-flow diffusion flames. Oxidant addition into fuel shows the increase of integrated soot volume fractions for ethylene, ethylene/ethane and ethylene/methane mixture flames. However, the increase of integrated soot volume fraction with oxidant addition was not significant for propane and ethylene/propane mixture flames. This discrepancy is explained with $C_2\;and\;C_3$ chemistry at the early stage of soot formation process. The oxidant addition increases the concentration of $C_3H_3$ in the soot formation region, and therefore, enhances soot formation process. A new soot formation rate model that includes both dilution effect and chemical effect of oxygen is suggested to interpret the increase of integrated soot volume fractions with oxidant addition into ethylene. Also, the role of adiabatic flame temperature for the chemical effect of oxygen addition into fuel was reviewed. The influence of oxidant or diluent addition into fuel on soot formation process are the fuel dilution effect, the adiabatic flame temperature altering effect and/or the chemical effect of oxygen. Their relative importance could change with fuel structure and adiabatic flame temperature.

  • In this study, in order to find the improvement effect of metakaolin for using improvement of strength in concrete structures, it is investigated the diffusion coefficient of chloride ions and adiabatic temperature rise test. As a result, due to the mixing of metakaolin, it has been confirmed reducing diffusion coefficient of chloride ions and could prevent down of slump for use of adding fly ash. Therefore, ensuring resistance to chloride ion penetration into concrete, it is possible to enlarge the W/B ratio and reduce the adiabatic temperature rise by mixing of metakaolin. So, it is confirmed that the durability of concrete structures is increased.

  • In this study, numerical and experimental studies on the nozzle flow in a sub-scale cold flow test were conducted to simulate high altitude condition. In the theoretical calculation, the temperature of the nozzle outlet is calculated to be lower than the liquefaction point, and the fluid exists at the phase change point. Also, numerical analysis result is higher than theory calculation but lower than liquefaction temperature. As a result of cold flow test, it was confirmed that the temperature was much higher than theory and analysis. This is because it assumed that it is adiabatic in the theoretical calculation, but the experiment in the actual environment is not the adiabatic but the heat exchange with the outside exists.

  • The velocity of gadolinium(Gd) atomic vapor vaporized by an electron beam was measured by a microbalance. The velocity of about 900 ㎧ was obtained at an evaporation surface temperature of 2400-2500 K. The measured value was approximately 100 ㎧ faster than the maximum velocity of an ideal monatomic gas in an adiabatic expansion. This phenomenon can be explained that the internal energy of Gd atoms populated in higher excited levels at the high temperature should be convened to kinetic energy during adiabatic expansion. The calculated velocity agrees with the measured one when 100 excited energy levels are included in an enthalpy term for the velocity calculation. The characteristics of vapor flow as a function of heated surface temperature are also reported.

  • Crack control due to temperature is an important factor for the mass concrete structure. Pre-cooling is the effective system to reduce the highest temperature of mass concrete. In this study, for pre-cooling, cooling water, cooling water with ics flake are used. The results of a series of experimental studies indicate that the changes in properties of fresh concrete after cooling are of low degree, and compressive strength of concrete is changed very little by cooling. The adiabatic temperature rise is also measured with pre-cooling concrete specimens. It is shown that hydration heat characteristics of cement and concrete were largely affected by pre-cooling.

  • This study evaluated temperature distribution through adiabatic temperature rising test and hydration heat Analysis as a performance verification to utilize CGS as a hydration heat reduction material for mass concrete when replacing it with fine aggregate. According to the analysis, the temperature difference between the center and the surface was the highest at about 30℃, followed by the CGS 50% at 26℃ and the low heat combiner FA 30% at 23℃.

  • We explore the range of possibilities of temperatures, heated temperature, and Kappa values of a current sheet observation on 2017 September 10. First, we construct a grid model with rapid heating (Theat) and various Kappa (κ) values. We assume a simple density model and use adiabatic cooling to set the temperature during expansion. Next, we calculate the ion fractions using a time-dependent ionization model with adiabatic cooling and various Kappa values. The calculated ion fractions are used to simulate the DNs of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on board the Solar Dynamic Observatory. Then, we explore the possible range of the temperatures and Kappa values, comparing the simulated images with the observations. Finally, we discuss the range of the heated temperature and Kappa values and whether the result of this study suggests continuous heating of the current sheet plasma during the expansion.
