  • Adhesion strength of polyurethane adhesive for laminated metal plate was investigated. Also, the effect of laminating conditions on the adhesion strength was understood by measuring peel strength as a function of adhesion temperature and time. The amount of isocyanate appearing due to the unblocking of oxime in polyurethane adhesive affected the strength of adhesion with hydroxyl on the metal plate or aluminum foil and it was controlled by adhesion temperature and time. However, the excess of temperature and time in laminating process caused the lowering of adhesion strength because of the decrease of solvent content as well as thermal degradation of the adhesive.

  • In order to prepare for the suitable surfaces of implants or medical devices, quantitative evaluation of adhesion between cells and biomaterials is essential. To better understand adhesion formation between cells and biomaterials, we used the cytodetachment technique which measures the adhesive force of a single cell through changing the, culture time and detachment speed. The results showed that the adhesive force could be affected by the culture time of cells on the surface of materials and the detachment speed. Moreover, there was a large discrepancy among the adhesion strength measured by similar techniques conducted on the different cells and substrates. It can be 'concluded that the variation of the force measurement technique can seriously alter the level of the force required to detach a cell on the surface of materials.

  • After adhering theone-sided non-woven adhesive interlining to the polyester/cotton fabrics and making experiments under the various conditions by L27 Orthogonal Array Table, we examined and analyzed the breaking away strength. The rusults are summarized as follows : 1. The best length of the adhering time is 15 secs. 2. As the adehesive interlining for blouse and jacket, B3 is best 3. The pressure for the adhesion is best under the pressure of 6.2Kg. 4. The temperature for the adhesion is best at 140$^{\circ}C$. 5. As for the direction of the adhesion, three directions appear much the same breaking away strength. 6. For the better adhesion power, if the less adhering power, if the less adhering pressure is applied, the adhering time must be extended(15-20 secs), and if much stronger adhering pressure is applied, the time must be shortened(10-15 secs). In general, it is the best way for the adhesion to apply under the pressure of 6.2Kg, for 15 secs long, and at 140$^{\circ}C$ of the adhering temperature.

  • a parametric investigation was conducted to evaluate the effect of the laser beam for plastic adhesion. To determine the best condition for plastic adhesion, the $CO_2$(wavelength $10.6{\mu}m$) and nd:yag(wavelength $10.6{\mu}m$) laser were experimented with. From the experiment results obtained, the nd:yag laser was revealed to be the most suitable for plastic adhesion. In this study, three adhesion parameters such as input power level, working time of laser beam and pps(pulse per second) were systematically adjusted for suitable adhesion. From these experiments, it was observed that the target plastic melted and was evaporated by the nd:yag laser. Furthermore, the relationships between adhesive surface by laser beam and above three parameters were discovered.

  • "Tack" is defined as "the property that enables an adhesive to form a bond with the surface of another material upon brief contact under light pressure". The tack depends on a number of experimental parameters. We can control various experimental factors (contact force, dwell time, pretest speed) using probe tack tester. We are here concerned with pretest speed of experimental factors using SIS-based hotmelt PSA and water-borne acrylic PSA.

  • EVA foam was treated by oxygen plasma under a various treatment time for surface modification. The effect of plasma treatment on surface properties of EVA foam was investigated in terms of FT-IR ATR, XPS, contact angle, and SEM analysis and the adhesion characteristic of the EVA foam was studied in peel strength. As a results, EVA foam treated by plasma led to an elimination of organic compound, an increase of oxygen content, and an increase of surface roughness, resulting in improving the adhesion properties of the EVA foam. As the plasma treatment time increased, the hydrophilicity and physical change of surface of the EVA foam were increased and showed maximum value at 180 s and 420 s, respectively. The maximum adhesion strength appeared at plasma treatment time of 420 s and therefore, in this study the physical change was thought to be a major factor for improving the adhesion of the EVA foam.

  • In this study, we examined the relationships between the coating film's properties, such as microhardness, adhesion of coating fil $m_strate, and machining tool's life time. Samples were prepared by coating TiN on the 5.5 diameter twist drills using reactive ion plating technology, For measuring microhardness and adhesion of fil $m_strate, HSS plate was used for substrate. TiN coated drill's life time was dependent on the adhesion of fil $m_strate and averagely increased by several ten times more than uncoated drill's. The major parameter affecting TiN coated drill's life time was the strong adhesion between coating film and substrate.ate.

  • This article reports improved corrosion resistance and adhesion of electro-paint (E-paint) with fluoride conversion coating (FCC) on AZ31 Mg alloy for the first time. These improvements were observed in comparison to chemically polished samples with no chemical conversion coating and samples with cerium conversion coatings (CeCC). FCCs were prepared in a hydrofluoric acid (HF) solution for four different times; 10, 30, 60, and 120 s. The colour of the samples changed from light gold to brown with increasing immersion time, indicating the formation of thicker FCC coatings with increasing immersion time. The adhesion of the E-paint on FCC-coated AZ31 Mg alloy was tested after 500 h of immersion in deionized (DI) water. Salt spray test (SST) results revealed delamination of E-paint on the chemically polished sample, severe blistering on the samples with CeCC, but no delamination and no blistering on the samples with FCC.

  • In order to examine the adhesion characteristics of road pavement according to environmental conditions, the freezing time of cement mortar and the adhesion performance between ice and pavement were evaluated depending on the presence or absence of polymer and water repellent. As a result of measuring the ice formation time, it was found that there was no delay when a polymer was added, but the complete freezing time was delayed when a water repellent was added. As a result of measuring the strength of ice adhesion, it was found that the bonding force between ice and the surface of the test body was greatly generated in the test body without water repellent. In the case of a test specimen to which a water repellent was added, it was found that the bonding strength between the test specimen surface and ice was reduced.

  • This study was performed to find the best bonding conditions by comparing mechanical properties in thermoplastic resin of polyethylene (PE) and polyamide (PA) adhesion. Following results were obtained from the tests with varying welding time and welding pressure. Satisfactory adhesion was executed in ultrasonic welding for the same materials of PE and PA. The best welding conditions were found to be welding time of 1 second, welding pressure of 250kPa for PE-PE weding, 2 second and 350kPa for PA-PA welding. Welding time and welding pressure end to increase with the increase of materials strength. Dissimilar materials were adhered when adhesion and ultrasonc welding were performed simultaneously. The observation of the structure of ultrasonic welding area with microscope showed differenticated structures between well adhered region and badly adhered region.
