  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate dietary protein intake and its adequacy among Korean adults during recent 10 years. Methods: Based on the 2010 ~ 2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data, a total of 51,296 adults aged 19 years old or more who participated in a one-day 24-hr dietary recall were included. Dietary protein intake was estimated as percentages of total energy (% of energy) and grams per body weight (g/kg/day) and compared with the 2020 Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans to evaluate the adequacy of protein intake. In addition, proportions of people whose protein intakes were less than the estimated average requirement (EAR) and above the upper limit of the acceptable macronutrient distribution range (AMDR) (> 20% of energy) were calculated according to sociodemographic characteristics. Results: Protein intake was increased from 14.7% of energy in 2010 to 15.6% of energy in 2019 among Korean adults. However, there was no increase in protein intake relative to the recommended nutrient intake (% RNI) during the recent 10 years. Protein intake relative to the RNI was decreased from 130.2% in 2010 to 121.1% in 2019 (P for trend < 0.0001) among total participants, and a significant decreasing trend was observed in all age groups except for over 65 years old. However, protein intake relative to the RNI was lowest in the elderly (98.6%). Proportions of low protein intake (< EAR) and high protein intake (> AMDR) increased in the past 10 years (P for trend < 0.0001 for all), and these were associated with socioeconomic statuses, such as education and household income levels. Conclusions: These findings suggest that protein adequacy in Korean adults has not been improved over the past decade compared with recommended levels. Nutritional education and intervention programs should consider different intake levels according to sociodemographic characteristics.

  • Purpose : Accumulation of accurate data regarding the use and adequacy of subsidies is important to provide optimal development rehabilitation services. However, no reports have discussed the status regarding the use and adequacy of subsidies available for motor development rehabilitation as a part of development rehabilitation services in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. In this study, we investigated the current use and subsidy adequacy of motor development rehabilitation as an essential part of development rehabilitation services in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. Methods : The study included parents of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy, who underwent motor development rehabilitation of development rehabilitation services (n=148). The participants were administered a questionnaire to investigate the current use and subsidy adequacy of the motor development rehabilitation part of development rehabilitation services. Results : Most respondents indicated that 310,000-410,000 /month was an appropriate subsidy and agreed that the subsidy should be extended to adults with cerebral palsy. We observed a significant difference in the appropriate subsidy based on age groups (p=.029), as well as type of development rehabilitation service most needed (p=.005) and whether or not agree to extend the subsidy to adults according to gross motor function classification system level (p=.015). There were significant relations of appropriate subsidy (p<.001) and appropriateness of copay (p=.004) according to degree of transportation cost burden. Moreover, there were significant relations of appropriateness of current subsidy (p=.015) and appropriate subsidy (p<.001) according to degree of inconvenience of using transportation. Conclusion : This study highlights the need to increase subsidies for motor development rehabilitation of development rehabilitation services and that the subsidy should be determined based on the burden of transportation costs and the inconvenience of using transportation. Development rehabilitation service for adults with cerebral palsy should also be supported.

  • This study aims to examine the current procedure of the adequacy review system of public standards for records management developed and disseminated by the National Archives of Korea and to explore improvements to utilize them as basic data to solidify the operation of standards. The study identified the shortcomings of the system with examples of international standards and Korean industrial standards. It also analyzed the history of standardization promoted by the National Archives of Korea. The analysis showed that most of them are simple revisions, such as changes of terminology and standard names according to law amendment. The frequency of standardization by standard also showed a significant difference. In addition, it was found that the adequacy review process or results were not disclosed clearly. As such, the study proposes various improvements to solve these problems, namely, improving standardization for the records management system, establishing detailed procedures for deliberation, and establishing evaluation standards for adequacy reviews.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the variables which affect the coping styles for stress which was produced by family resource management in housewives. The subjects of this study were 565 married women who lived in apartment in Taegu. A questionnaire was used as survey method. The data was analyzed by means of factor analysis, t-test ANOVA Scheffe test coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The main findings were as follows; First the coping styles for stress were found to be significantly different according to the objective resources. Second perceived adequacy resource is positively correlated with the active coping style. Third locus of control is negatively correlated with the passive coping style and the evasive coping style, Forth in the coping styles for stress the active coping style was affected by locus of control perceived adequacy resource income employment of housewives and the evasive coping style was affected by locus of control.

  • The author investigated pain experiences of 90 cancer patients and the adequacy of pain treatment they have received during their stay at a large medical center in T city between October 1994 and August 1995. Pain was assessed by the Shortened BPQ and results are summarized as follows: As for ratings of “worst pain” during the 24 hour period, 70% of the patients reported they had “severe” pain. As for ratings on “pain now,” 43% of the cancer patients reported “moderate to severe” pain. Over 46% of the patients reported a pain relief score of 0(not at all) or 1(somewhat) even after receiving pain medication. Adequacy of analgesic treatment was evaluated by comparing the patient's reported level of pain and the analgesic use, namely, the pain management index(PMI). The PMI indicated that 58% of the patients were undertreated for the pain control. In review of nurse's notes. systematic pain assessment was scarcely recorded, although pain documentation appeared in 70% of the notes; and the contents were mostly simple description. In conclusion, the results of patient's pain ratings, the PMI and poor pain documentation in the nurse's notes implied poor pain assessment and management.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among selected socioeconomic variables(age, household income, education duration; perceived income adequacy, gap between living standards and level), financial management and financial satisfaction. The sample size is 298 interviewee, and the unit of analysis is household in Seoul. Results of the study indicate that perceived income adequacy is significantly related to financial management. And perceived income adequacy, household income, gap between living standards and level, and age are significantly related to financial satisfaction. Although perceived income has an indirect effect on financial through financial management, but indirect effect is too small, financial management is not examined as intervening variable.

  • This paper presents a study on the development of the electricity market system and resource adequacy. Recently the market system and the power supply-demand system has limitations of evolution which has to be complementary developed by the changes of the power system environment. In this paper we proposed a fundamental step-by-step progress direction for our electricity market system and the supply-demand system by using the Korean power industry environment and overseas resource adequacy systems.

  • Capacity payment mechanism has been adopted as the incentive scheme to achieve resource adequacy in Korean electricity market, however, the level of capacity price has been controversial due to its insufficient extent to incur financial loss for certain generators. Therefore, a new method is proposed to estimate the proper level of capacity price incorporating profitability of market participants and resource adequacy in this paper. The proposed method is successfully applied to test system based on Korean power system.

  • This paper proposes a new methodology for adequacy evaluation of composite power system considering an ambiguity of overload of transmission lines. Nodal arrival powers under considering an ambiguity of overload of transmission lines can be evaluated using the proposed method. Fuzzy set theory has been used in order to consider the permission level of overload of transmission lines. The problem of adequacy evaluation has been formulated using fuzzy linear programing. The effectiveness of the proposed method considering permissible overload of transmission lines has been demonstrated on the IEEE RTS.
