Difference analysis of the collapse behaviors of the single-story beam-column assembly and multi-story planar frame

  • The collapse behavior observed in single-story beam-column assembly (SSBCA) do not accurately represent the actual overall stress characteristic of multi-story frame structure (MSFS) under column loss scenario owing to ignoring the interaction action among different stories, leading to a disconnection between the anti-collapse behaviors of "components" and "overall structures", that is, the anti-collapse performance of frame structures with two different structural scales has not yet formed a combined force. This paper conducts a numerical and theoretical study to explore the difference of the collapse behaviors of the SSBCA and MSFS, and further to reveal the internal force relationships and boundary constraints at beam ends of models SSBCA and MSFS. Based on the previous experimental tests, the corresponding refined numerical simulation models were established and verified, and comparative analysis on the resistant-collapse performance was carried out, based on the validated modeling methods with considering the actual boundary constraints, and the results illustrates that the collapse behaviors of the SSBCA and MSFS is not a simple multiple relationship. Through numerical simulation and theoretical analysis, the development laws of internal force in each story beam under different boundary constraints was clarified, and the coupling relationship between the bending moment at the most unfavorable section and axial force in the composite beam of different stories of multi story frames with weld cover-plated flange connections was obtained. In addition, considering the effect of the yield performance of adjacent columns on the anti-collapse bearing capacities of the SSBCA and MSFS during the large deformation stages, the calculation formula for the equivalent axial stiffness at the beam ends of each story were provided.

Mechanical properties of steel-polypropylene fiber reinforced fully recycled coarse aggregate concrete

  • In this study, the steel fiber and the polypropylene fiber were used to enhance the mechanical properties of fully recycled coarse aggregate concrete. Natural crushed stone was replaced with recycled coarse aggregate at 100% by volume. The steel fiber and polypropylene fiber were used as additive material by incorporating into the mixture. In this test two parameters were considered: (a) steel fiber volume ratio (i.e., 0%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%), (b) polypropylene fiber volume ratio (i.e., 0%, 0.1%, 0.15%, 0.2%). The results showed that compared with no fiber, the integrity of cubes or cylinders mixed with fibers after failure was better. When the volume ratio of steel fiber was 1~2%, the width of mid-span crack after flexural failure was 5~8 mm. In addition, when the volume ratio of polypropylene fiber was 0.15%, with the increase of steel fiber content, the static elastic modulus and toughness of axial compression first increased and then decreased, and the flexural strength increased, with a range of 6.5%~20.3%. Besides, when the volume ratio of steel fiber was 1.5%, with the increase of polypropylene fiber content, the static elastic modulus decreased, with a range of 7.0%~10.5%. The ratio of axial compression toughness first increased and then decreased, with a range of 2.2%~8.7%. The flexural strength decreased, with a range of 2.7%~12.6%. On the other hand, the calculation formula of static elastic modulus and cube compressive strength of fully recycled coarse aggregate with steel-polypropylene fiber was fitted, and the optimal fiber content within the scope of the test were put forward.

Relationship of sodium index with the obesity indicators of university students in Daegu, South Korea: a cross-sectional study

  • Objectives: The sodium index is an index that converts the estimated sodium intake calculated using a verified and reliable sodium estimation formula. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the sodium index and obesity indicators and the potential impact of excessive sodium consumption on obesity. Methods: Obesity indicators, such as body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and visceral fat levels, were analyzed in 120 university students (60 men and 60 women). The sodium index was calculated by indexing the estimated sodium intake according to age, sex, BMI, salt-eating habits, and salt-eating behaviors. The relationship between sodium index and obesity indicators was analyzed using multiple logistic regression. Results: The estimated sodium intake was 3,907.1 mg, with 76.7% of the participants categorized under the "careful" level of sodium index and 10.8% under the "moderate" level. As the sodium index increased, the BMI, body fat percentage, WHR, and visceral fat levels significantly increased. All obesity indicators significantly increased in patients with a "severe" sodium index than in those with a "moderate" sodium index. In addition, a strong positive correlation was identified between obesity indicators and sodium index. When the "severe" sodium index was compared with the "moderate" sodium index, the risk of obesity based on body fat percentage increased by 2.181 times (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.526-3.118), while the risk of obesity based on visceral fat level increased by 4.073 times (95% CI, 2.097-7.911). Conclusions: Our findings suggest a correlation between excessive sodium intake and obesity. Moreover, the sodium index can be used to determine sodium intake.

인진호탕가웅담(茵蔯蒿湯加熊膽)의 경구투여(經口投與)가 $CCl_4$ 투여(投與)로 유발(誘發)된 간경변(肝硬變)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effect of oral administration of Injinhotang with bile extract of bear on carbon tetrachloride $(CCl_4)-induced$ hepatic cirrhosis rat)

  • In order to determine the effects of annexing bile extracts of bears on the anti-fibrotic effect of Injinhotang. Mix compound of Injinhotang and bile extracts of bears were administered to the carbon tetrachloride ($CCl_4$)-induced cirrhotic rats during 20 days and the changes of serum levels of GOT (glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase), GPT (glutamic pyruvic transaminase), LDH (lactate dehydrogenase), ALP (alanine phosphatase), GGT (gamma glutamyl transpeptidase) and T-BIL (total bilirubin) were monitored with comparison to the results of Injinhotang administered group. The results were summarized as follows. 1. A significant (p<0.01) increase of serum GOT levels were observed in control group compared to those of normal group but these increased levels were dramatically decreased in Injinhotang and Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group. In addition, a significant (p<0.05) increase were also detected In Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group compared to that of Injinhotang-administered group. 2. A significant (p<0.01) increase of serum GPT levels were observed in control group compared to those of normal group but these increased levels were dramatically decreased in Injinhotang and Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group. Although significances were not recorded, increase of serum GPT levels were also detected in Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group compared to that of Injinhotang-administered group. 3. A significant (p<0.01) increase of serum LDH levels were observed in control group compared to those of normal group but these increased levels were dramatically decreased in Injinhotang and Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group. Although significances were not recorded, increase of serum LDH levels were also detected in Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group compared to that of Injinhotang-administered group. 4. A significant (p<0.01 or p<0.05) increase of serum ALP levels were observed in control group compared to those of normal group but these increased levels were dramatically decreased in Injinhotang and Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group. In addition, a significant (p<0.05) increase were also detected in Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group compared to that of Injinhotang-administered group. 5. A significant (p<0.01) increase of serum GGT levels were observed in control and Injinhotang-administered group compared to those of normal group but these increased levels were dramatically decreased in Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group. 6. A significant (p<0.01) increase of serum T-BIL levels were observed in control group compared to those of normal group but these increased levels were dramatically decreased in Injinhotang and Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group. Although significances were not recorded, increase of serum T-BIL levels were also detected in Injinhotang with Fel Ursi-administered group compared to that of Injinhotang-administered group. In conclusion, it is considered that bile extract of bears has some additional effect to the anti-fibrotic effect of Injinhotang but to know the exact mechanism of suitable dose and duration of administration, further studies such as pharmacokinetics and dose-dependent pharmacological studies were needed

  • 기능성 소재로서의 버찌분말의 이용가능성을 알아보기 위해 버찌분말을 0, 3, 6 및 9% 첨가한 쿠키를 제조하여 품질 특성을 조사하였다. 쿠키 반죽의 pH는 버찌분말 첨가에 의해 감소하였으며, 밀도는 증가하였다. 쿠키의 퍼짐성은 버찌분말 첨가에 의해 감소하였으며, 쿠키의 색은 L(lightness), b(yellow ness)값이 감소하고, a(redness)값이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 쿠키의 경도는 버찌분말 첨가량이 증가할수록 감소하였으며, 항산화 활성은 버찌분말 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 항산화활성이 증가하였다. 쿠키의 관능검사 결과 버찌분말 첨가는 색, 냄새, 맛, 질감 및 전체적인 기호도를 향상시키는 긍정적인 영향을 미치나 9% 이상의 너무 많은 버찌분말 첨가는 관능적인 기호도를 오히려 떨어뜨리는 것으로 나타났으며, 버찌분말 6% 첨가군의 선호도가 가장 좋아 쿠키의 품질 및 관능 특성, 기능성을 고려한 버찌분말첨가량은 6% 첨가구가 최적 조건일 것으로 판단되었다.

커피박 추출물 및 분말 첨가 머핀의 품질 특성과 항산화 활성 (Quality Characteristics and Antioxidative Activity of Muffins Added with Coffee Ground Residue Water Extract and Powder)

  • 본 연구는 커피를 추출한 후 발생되는 커피박을 식재료로 활용할 수 있는 방안을 모색하고자 커피박 첨가 형태를 달리하여 머핀을 제조하고 품질 특성을 검토하였다. 커피박 열수추출물(CRE) 머핀의 중량(62.01~62.36 g)은 대조구(61.64 g)에 비해 높았으며, 높이(6.03~6.23 cm)와 부피(186~493 mL)도 대조구(5.87 cm, 185 mL)에 비해 높았다. 수분 함량은 CRE 머핀(29.41~29.92%)과 커피박 분말(CRP) 머핀(30.10~31.11%)이 대조구에 비해 높았다. L(lightness) 값과 b(yellowness) 값은 CRE 및 CRP 첨가량이 증가할수록 감소하였으나 a(redness) 값은 증가하였다. CRE 머핀의 경도는 대조구에 비해 유의적으로 낮았으나, CRP 첨가구는 대조구보다 높았으며 첨가량이 증가할수록 증가하였다. 총 폴리페놀 함량은 CRE 및 CRP 머핀이 대조구보다 높았으며, 첨가량이 증가할수록 유의적으로 증가하였다(P<0.05). CRE 머핀의 DPPH 라디칼 소거능은 15.91~83.25%로 대조구(5.53%)에 비해 유의적으로 높았으며, 농도 증가에 비례하여 증가하였다. ABTS 라디칼 소거능도 CRE 첨가구(1.91~48.09%)가 대조구(25.20%)에 비해 유의적으로 높았으며, 농도가 증가함에 따라 유의적으로 증가하였다(P<0.05). 관능검사 결과 머핀 내부의 외관과 색, 풍미와 맛은 CRE 첨가구가 대조구보다 우수하였다. 맛과 종합적 기호도는 1.0% 첨가구가 가장 우수하였다. CRP 머핀의 외관과 내부 색은 1.0% 첨가구가 가장 우수하였으며, 풍미는 CRP 첨가구가 대조구보다 높았고 맛과 종합적 기호도는 1.0% 첨가구가 가장 우수하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 보면 항산화 활성이 다량 잔존하고 있는 커피박은 제과제빵의 항산화 활성 등 기능성 강화 소재로 활용이 가능하며, 머핀 이외에도 다양한 식품 산업에 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

Sub-acute toxicity and effect of Hwangryunhaedok-tang on human drug-metabolizing enzymes

  • Objectives: Hwangryunhaedok-tang (HHT; Huanglianjiedu-tang, Orengedoku-to), a traditional herbal formula, is used for treating inflammation, hypertension, gastritis, liver dysfunction, cerebrovascular diseases, dermatitis and dementia. The objective of this study was to assess the sub-acute toxicity of HHT in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, and its effect on the activities of human microsomal cytochrome P450s (CYP450s) and UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs). Methods: Male and female SD rats were orally administered HHT once daily at doses of 0, 500, 1000 and 2000 mg/kg for 4 weeks. We analyzed mortality, clinical observations, body weight, food consumption, organ weights, urinalysis, hematology, serum biochemistry, and histopathology. The activities of major human CYP450s (CYP1A2, CYP3A4, CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, and CYP2E1) and UGTs (UGT1A1, UGT1A4, and UGT2B7) were assessed using in vitro fluorescence- and luminescence-based enzyme assays, respectively. Results: No toxicologically significant changes related to the repeated administration of HHT were observed in both male and female SD rats. The no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) value was more than 2000 mg/kg/day for both sexes. HHT inhibited the activities of human microsomal CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, and CYP2E1, whereas it weakly inhibited the activities of CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP3A4, and UGT1A1. In addition, HHT negligibly inhibited the activities of human microsomal UGT1A4 and UGT2B7 with $IC_{50}$ values in excess of $1000{\mu}g/mL$. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that HHT may be safe for repeated administration up to 4 weeks. In addition, these findings provide information on the safety and effectiveness of HHT when co-administered with conventional drugs.

시판 된장을 이용한 식빵 제조: 1. 된장의 이화학적 특성 및 된장을 첨가한 식빵의 물리적 특성 (Development of Yeast Leavened Pan Bread Using Commercial Doenjangs (Korean Soybean Pastes): 1. Physicochemical Properties of Doenjang and Physical Properties of Bread Added with Doenjang)

  • 생리활성이 우수하다고 알려진 된장의 소비확대를 위하여 시판 된장을 이스트 발효 식빵 제조에 이용하고자 식빵 배합비에 7종(A; 재래식 된장, B∼E; 시판 개량식 된장, F;시판 Miso type 된장, G; Japanese Miso)의 동결건조한 된장분말을 2.5∼10.0% 첨가하여 발효력과 오븐팽창력을 관찰하고 빵품질을 물리적 측면에서 조사하였다. 사용된 시판된장 7종의 이화학적 특성치로는 일반성분을 비롯하여 아미노태질소, 총산도, 환원당, 유리당, 염도, 유기산 함량 및 단백질분산지수(PDI)를 제시하였다. 빵 배합비에 된장분말 5.0% 이하의 첨가는 오븐팽창력의 현저한 증가로 모든 된장 첨가식빵 부피가 증가하여 무첨가구에 비하여 최대 13%까지 높게 나타났다. 또한 된장첨가로 기계적 조직감 측정치인 경도(hardness), 검성 (gumminess), 씹힘성(chewiness) 등이 감소하여 전반적으로 부드러워졌고, 빵의 색은 어두워졌다. 그러므로 식빵제조에 시판된장의 사용은 빵의 물리적 품질 향상에 매우 긍정적인 효과를 가져왔다. 이때 식빵의 부피나 조직감은 된장 종류나 첨가수준에 의하여 독립적으로 영향을 받을 뿐만 아니라 이들 처리조합의 상호작용에 의하여도 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.

밀싹 분말 첨가 머핀의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Muffins Containing Wheat Sprout Powder)

  • 본 실험은 풍부한 영양성분과 다양한 약리학적 기능을 가진 밀싹을 기능성 소재로 활용하기 위해 밀싹 분말을 밀가루 대체 첨가물로 사용하여 제조한 머핀의 품질 특성과 항산화 활성을 조사하였다. 머핀의 무게는 63.37~63.86 g의 범위로 밀싹 분말 첨가량 차이에 따른 무게 변화의 유의적 차이는 없었다. WSP-1과 WSP-3의 부피는 대조구에 비해서 다소 증가하였으며, 용적비도 부피의 증가와 유사한 경향을 나타내었으나 시료별 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다(P<0.05). 머핀의 높이는 WSP-7이 가장 낮았고 WSP-3이 가장 높았으나 실제로 밀싹 분말 첨가량이 증가함에 따른 가시적인 부피 및 높이의 변화는 관찰되지 않았다. 밀싹 분말 첨가구가 대조구에 비해 낮은 pH를 나타내었고 머핀의 수분 함량은 대조구가 28.48%로 가장 낮았으며, 밀싹 분말 첨가량이 증가할수록 다소 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 밀싹 분말 첨가량이 증가할수록 L값과 a값은 감소하였고 b값은 증가하였다. 머핀의 경도는 대조구가 가장 낮았고 밀싹 분말 첨가량이 증가할수록 경도는 증가하였으나 첨가량에 따른 유의적 차이는 없었다(P<0.05). 대조구의 총 폴리페놀 함량은 $9.52{\mu}g/mL$를 나타내었으며 WSP-1은 $18.09{\mu}g/mL$를 나타내어 대조구에 비해 약 2배 정도 높았다. 머핀의 DPPH 라디칼 소거능도 대조구가 11.02%, WSP-1이 20.44%로 대조구에 비해 약 2배 정도 증가하여 밀싹 분말 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 머핀의 총 폴리페놀 함량과 DPPH 라디칼 소거능은 증가하였다. 밀싹 분말을 첨가한 머핀의 관능검사 결과 외관, 색 및 풍미에 대한 기호도는 밀싹 분말 첨가 머핀이 대조구에 비해 높았으며, 맛은 WSP-3이 3.40으로 가장 높았고 조직감은 WSP-7이 가장 낮았으나 처리구별 유의적 차이는 없었다. 종합적 기호도는 WSP-3이 3.54, WSP-5가 3.42로 시료들 중에서 우수한 평가를 받았다.

Single Oral Dose Toxicity Study of Aqueous Extracts of Binso-san in ICR Mice

  • Although BinSo-San(BSS), a mixed herbal formula consisted of 11 types of medicinal herbs and have been used as anti-inflammatory agent, In the present study, the acute toxicity (single oral dose toxicity) of lyophilized BSS aqueous extracts was monitored in male and female mice after oral administration according to Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) Guidelines (2005-60, 2005). In order to observe the 50% lethal dose ($LD_{50}$), approximate lethal dosage (ALD), maximum tolerance dosage (MTD) and target organs, test articles were once orally administered to female and male ICR mice at dose levels of 2000, 1000, 500, 250 and 0 (control) mg/kg (body wt.) according to the recommendation of KFDA Guidelines (2005-60, 2005). The mortality and changes on body weight, clinical signs and gross observation were monitored during 14 days after dosing according to KFDA Guidelines (2005-60, 2005) with organ weight and histopathology of 12 types of principle organs. We could not find any mortality, clinical signs and changes in the body weights except for dose-independent increases of body weight and gains restricted in 1000 mg/kg of BSS extracts-dosing female group. Hypertrophic changes of lymphoid organs.thymus, spleen and popliteal lymph nodes were detectedat postmortem observation with BSS extracts dose-dependent increases of lymphoid organ weights, and hyperplasia of lymphoid cells in these all three lymphoid organs at histopathological observations. These changes are considered as results of pharmacological effects of BSS extracts or their components, immunomodulating effects, not toxicological signs. In addition, some sporadic accidental findings such as congestion spots, cyst formation in kidney, atrophy of thymus and spleen with depletion of lymphoid cells, and edematous changes of uterus with desquamation of uterus mucosa as estrus cycles were detected throughout the whole experimental groups including both male and female vehicle controls. The significant (p<0.01) increases of absolute weights of kidney and pancreas detected in BSS extracts 1000 mg/kg-treated female group are considered as secondary changes from increases of body weights. The results obtained in this study suggest that the BSS extract is non-toxic in mice and is therefore likely to be safe for clinical use. The LD50 and ALD of BSS aqueous extracts in both female and male mice were considered as over 2000 mg/kg because no mortalities were detected upto 2000 mg/kg that was the highest dose recommended by KFDA and OECD. In addition, the MTD of BSS extracts was also considered as over 2000 mg/kg because no BSS extracts-treatment related toxicological signs were detected at histopathological observation except for BSS or their component-related pharmacological effects, the immunomodulating effects detected in the present study.
