This paper presents an adaptive cutting force controller for milling process, which can be attached to most commercial CNC machining centers in a practical way. The cutting forces of X,Y and Z axes measured indirectly from the use of currents drawn by AC feed-drive servo motors. A typical model for the feed-drive control system of a horizontal machining center is developed to analyze cutting force measurement from the drive motor. The pulsating milling forces can be measured indirectly within the bandwidth of the current feedback control loop of the feed-drive system. It is shown that indirectly measured cutting force signals can be used in the adaptive controller for cutting force regulation. The robust controller structure is adopted in the whole adaptive control scheme. The conditions under which the whole scheme is globally convergent and stable are presented. The suggested control scheme has been implemented into a commercial machining center, and a series of cutting experiments on end milling and face milling processes are performed. The adaptive controller reveals reliable cutting force regulating capability under various cutting conditions.
Adaptability is an important issue in video streaming over mobile environments, since the clients may request videos with great differences in their workload. In this paper, we propose the issues in limited bandwidth scheduling for efficient MPEG-4 video stream transmission over a mobile or wireless network. In the phase of admission control, the amount of bandwidth allocated to serve a video request is the mean bandwidth requirement of its requested video. The dynamic allocation of bandwidth in the phase of scheduling depends on the playback buffer levels of the clients with an objective to make it more adaptive to the playback situation of individual clients. In the proposed RTA scheduling protocol, more bandwidth may be allocated temporarily to the client whose buffer level is low. By employing the buffer level based scheduling policy, this protocol attempts to maximize the real-time performance of individual playback while minimizing the impact of transient overloading. Extensive simulation experiments have been performed to investigate the performance characteristics of the RTA protocol as comparing with BSBA protocol. This RTA protocol shows the better performance by transferring more frames than BSBA protocol.Computer simulations reveals that the standard deviation of the bit rate error of the proposed scheme is 50% less than that of the conventional method.
Adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming technology has become an important and prevalent feature in many multimedia delivery systems, with content providers such as Netflix and Amazon using ABR streaming to increase bandwidth efficiency and provide the maximum user experience when channel conditions are not ideal. Where such systems could see improvement is in the delivery of live video with a closed loop cognitive control of video encoding. In this paper, we present streaming camera system which provides spatially and temporally adaptive video streams, learning the user's preferences in order to make intelligent scaling decisions. The system employs a hardware based H.264/AVC encoder for video compression. The encoding parameters can be configured by the user or by the cognitive system on behalf of the user when the bandwidth changes. A cognitive video client developed in this study learns the user's preferences (i.e. video size over frame rate) over time and intelligently adapts encoding parameters when the channel conditions change. It has been demonstrated that the cognitive decision system developed has the ability to control video bandwidth by altering the spatial and temporal resolution, as well as the ability to make scaling decisions

A feedforward amplifier, which is composed of several components, is an open loop system. Therefore, feedforward amplifiers are apt to deteriorate the performance according to the environmental changes even though the cancellation performance and the linearization bandwidth of feedforward systems are superior to other linearization methods. A control method is needed for maintaining the original performance of feedforward amplifiers or to keep the performance within a little error bounds. In this paper, an adaptive control method, which has a good convergence characteristic and is easy to implement, is suggested. The characteristics of the suggested control method compare with the characteristics of other control methods and the simulation results are presented.

This paper presents adaptive cutting force control in milling process using indirect cutting force measurement. The cutting forces in X, Y, and Z axes are measured indirectly from the sensing current of the feed-drive servo motor. After modelling the feed-drive system of a horizontal machining center, the relation between the cutting force and the servo motor current is analyzed. The pulsating milling forces are measured from the sensing current within the bandwidth of the servo. It is shown that indirect cutting farce measurement can be used in adaptive cutting force control. The adaptive control scheme which is globally convergent and stable is attached to a commercial CNC machining center. Cutting experiments on end milling are performed for diagonal cutting.
The paper presents a control architecture aimed at implementing bandwidth optimization combined with call admission control (CAC) over a digital video broadcasting (DVB) return channel satellite terminal (RCST) under quality of service (QoS) constraints. The approach can be applied in all cases where traffic flows, coming from a terrestrial portion of the network, are merged together within a single DVB flow, which is then forwarded over the satellite channel. The paper introduces the architecture of data and control plane of the RCST at layer 2. The data plane is composed of a set of traffic buffers served with a given bandwidth. The control plane proposed in this paper includes a layer 2 resource manager (L2RM), which is structured into decision makers (DM), one for each traffic buffer of the data plane. Each DM contains a virtual queue, which exactly duplicates the corresponding traffic buffer and performs the actions to compute the minimum bandwidth need to assure the QoS constraints. After computing the minimum bandwidth through a given algorithm (in this view the paper reports some schemes taken in the literature which may be applied), each DM communicates this bandwidth value to the L2RM, which allocates bandwidth to traffic buffers at the data plane. Real bandwidth allocations are driven by the information provided by the DMs. Bandwidth control is linked to a CAC scheme, which uses current bandwidth allocations and peak bandwidth of the call entering the network to decide admission. The performance evaluation is dedicated to show the efficiency of the proposed combined bandwidth allocation and CAC.
This paper presents an adaptive call admission control(CAC) algorithm based on a target handoff call dropping probability in mobile wireless environments. This method uses a neural network for predicting and reserving the bandwidth demands for handoff calls and new calls. The amount of bandwidth to be reserved is adaptively adjusted by a target value of handoff call dropping probability(CDP). That is, if the handoff CDP exceeds the a target CDP value, the bandwidth to be reserved should be increased to reduce the handoff dropping probability below a target value. The proposed method is intended to prevent from increasing handoff call dropping probability when bandwidth to be reserved is not enough for handoff calls due to an uncertain prediction. Our simulations compare the handoff CDP in proposed CAC with that of an existing CAC. Results show that the proposed method sustains handoff call dropping probability below our target value.
A common network such as internet does not provide a guaranteed network bandwidth to accommodate multimedia service in a reliable fashion. In this paper, we propose a new rate control mechanism for multimedia service on the internet which is adaptive to the dynamic QoS in real-time. Also we adapt an QoS monitoring module and real-time transmission control module to adapt dynamic network bandwidth. To do this, we used layer attribution of media data and also considered loss rate and buffer threshold in receiver side for measurement of dynamic QoS.

In wireless ad-hoc network, knowing the available bandwidth of the time varying channel is imperative for live video streaming applications. This is because the available bandwidth is varying all the time and strictly limited against the large data size of video streaming. Additionally, adapting the encoding rate to the suitable bit-rate for the network, where an overlarge encoding rate induces congestion loss and playback delay, decreases the loss and delay. While some effective rate controlling methods have been proposed and simulated well like VTP (Video Transport Protocol) [1], implementing to cooperate with the encoder and tuning the parameters are still challenging works. In this paper, we show our result of the implementation experiment of VTP based encoding rate controlling method and then introduce some techniques of our parameter tuning for a video streaming application over wireless environment.

H.264 decoders usually have pipeline architecture by a macroblock or a 4 ${\times}$ 4 sub-block. The period of the pipeline is usually fixed to guarantee the operation in the worst case which results in many idle cycles and higher data bandwidth. Adaptive pipeline architecture for H.264 decoders has been proposed for efficient decoding and lower the requirement of the bandwidth for the memory bus. However, it requires a controller for the adaptive priority control to utilize the advantage. We propose a smart bus arbiter that replaces the controller. It is introduced to adjust the priority adaptively the QoS (Quality of Service) control of the decoding process. The smart arbiter can be integrated the arbiter of bus systems and it works when certain conditions are met so that it does not affect the original functions of the arbiter. An H.264 decoder using the proposed architecture is designed and implemented to verify the operation using an FPGA.
