  • This paper compare the adaptive equalization performance of RMMA (Region-based MMA) and SCA (Square Contour Algorithm) in order to minimize the intersymbol interference that is occurred in communication channel when transmit the multilevel QAM signal. The RMMA used for improving the performance by translate to 4-level constant modulus and stability in current MMA algorithm, and the SCA used for the improving the performacne by combines the current CMA and RCA algorithm. These algorithms are aimed to improving the equalization peformance by applying the differenct principle each other in multilevel QAM signal, its different performance were compared by computer simulation in the same channel environment. For this, the output signal constellation of equalizer, residual isi, maximum distortion were applied in performance index. As a result, RMMA have more fairly good in every performance index such as signal point clustering capabilities and convergence speed compared to SCA. It is confired that the equalization noise due to misadjumstment was reduced in RMMA than SCA.

  • This paper compare the adaptive equalization performance of NM-MMA (Novel Mixed-MMA) algorithm which using the mixed const function by scaling factor values. The mixed cost function of NM-MMA composed of the appropriate weighted addition of gradient vector in the MMA and SE-MMA cost function, and updating the tap coefficient based on these function, it is possible to improve the convergence speed and MSE value of current algorithm. The computer simulation was performed in the same channel, step size, SNR environment by changing the scaling factor, and its performance were compared appling the equalizer output constellation, residual isi, MD, MSE, SER. As a result of computer simulation, the residual values of performance index were reduced in case of the scaling factor of MMA cost function was greater than the scaling factor of SE-MMA. and the convergence speed was improved in case of the scaling factor of SE-MMA was greater than the MMA.

  • This paper related with the I-CMA (Improved-CMA) algorithm that is possible to compensates of phase in CMA adatpve equalizer which is used for the elemination of intersymbol interference in the multipath fading and band limit characteristics of channel. The new cost function is proposed for the eliminate the amplitude and phase simulataneous by modifying the cost fuction for get the error signal in present CMA algorithm. It has a merit to the algorithm simplicities and eliminats the PLL device for phase compensation after equalization. For proving this, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of equalizer output signal and the residual isi and Maximum Distortion charateristic learning curve that are presents the convergence performance in the equalizer and the overall frequency transfer function of channel and equalizer were used. As a result of computer simulation, the I-CMA has more good compensation capability of amplitude and phas in the recovered constellation. But the convergence time is slow due to the simultaneously phase compensation.

  • This paper related with the performance of SE-MMA (Signed-Error MMA) that is the reduction of computational operation number in algorithm than MMA blind eualization algorithm which are possible to elimination of intersymbol interferance in the band limited and time dispersive nonlinear communication channel. In MMA algorithm which are possible to reduction of amplitude and phase rotation by intersymbol interference that is occurred in channel without using the training sequence, it uses the error signal that is the difference of the equalizer output and constant modulus, the statisticlly characteristic of transmitted signal. But in SE-MMA, it uses the polarity of the error signal, then it is possible to reduce the updating the tap coefficient and to simplify the H/W implementation. The computer simulation were performed in order to compare the performance of SE-MMA and conventional MMA algorithm. For this, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, the convergence performance by MSE, MD (maximum distortion) and residual isi characteristic learning curve, SER were used. As a result of simulation, the SE-MMA has more fast convergence speed than the MMA. But in the other index after reaching the seady state, it gives more worst performance values in the used index.

  • This paper discusses the implementation and performance evaluation of a DSP-based digital beamformer using the Texas Instrument TMSC6711 DSP processor for smart antenna applications. Two adaptive beamforming algorithms which served as the brain for the beamformer, the Normalized Least-Mean-Square (NLMS) and the Constant Modulus Algorithms (CMA) were embedded into the processor and evaluated. Result shows that the NLMS-based digital beamformer outperforms the CMA-based digital beamformer: 1)For NLMS algorithm, the antenna steers to the direction of the desired user even at low iteration value and the suppression level towards the interferer increases as the number of iteration increase. For CMA algorithm, the beam radiation pattern slowly steers to the desired user as the number of iteration increased, but at arate slower than NLMS algorithm and the sidelobe level is shown to increases as the number of iteration increase. 2) The NLMS algorithm has faster convergence than CMA algorithm and the error convergence for CMA algorithm sometimes is subject to misadjustment.

  • Among artificial intelligence-based computational techniques, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) are particularly suitable for modelling complex systems with known input-output data sets. Such systems can be efficient in modelling non-linear, complex and ambiguous behaviour of cement-based materials undergoing single, dual or multiple damage factors of different forms (chemical, physical and structural). Due to the well-known complexity of sulfate attack on cement-based materials, the current work investigates the use of ANFIS to model the behaviour of a wide range of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) mixture designs under various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes including full immersion, wetting-drying, partial immersion, freezing-thawing, and cyclic cold-hot conditions with or without sustained flexural loading. Three ANFIS models have been developed to predict the expansion, reduction in elastic dynamic modulus, and starting time of failure of the tested SCC specimens under the various high-concentration sodium sulfate exposure regimes. A fuzzy inference system was also developed to predict the level of aggression of environmental conditions associated with very severe sodium sulfate attack based on temperature, relative humidity and degree of wetting-drying. The results show that predictions of the ANFIS and fuzzy inference systems were rational and accurate, with errors not exceeding 5%. Sensitivity analyses showed that the trends of results given by the models had good agreement with actual experimental results and with thermal, mineralogical and micro-analytical studies.

  • The objective of this study is to integrate reliability analysis into shape optimization problem using the evolutionary structural optimization (ESO) in the application example. Reliability-based shape optimization is formulated as volume minimization problem with probabilistic stress constraint under minimization max. von Mises stress and allow stress. Young's modulus, external load and thickness are considered as uncertain variables. In order to compute reliability index, four methods, i.e., reliability index approach (RIA), performance measure approach (PMA), single-loop singlevector (SLSV) and adaptive-loop (ADL), are used. Reliability-based shape optimization design process is conducted to obtain optimal shape satisfying max. von Mises stress and reliability index constraints with the above four methods, and then each result is compared with respect to numerical stability and computing time.

  • This paper related with the CR-MMA which is possible to improving the equalization performance by applying the concept of constellation reduction in the MMA adaptive equalization alogorithm in order to reduce the intersymbol interference that is occurred in the nonlinear communication channel. In the updating process of MMA adaptive equalizer, the error signal is being obtained by using the equalizer output, and the performance will be degraded by the increase the error signal in the high order QAM constellation. But by using the constellation reduction, the high order QAM signal will be changed to the 4-QAM signal constellation and then the error signal will be obtained. By doing so, the error signal will be minimized and it is possible to improve the equalization performance in the high order QAM transmitted signal. The Computer simulation was performed in order to compare the performance of the proposed CR-MMA algorithm and original MMA algorithm in the same communication channel and noise environment. For this, the recoverd signal constellation which is the output of equalizer, residual isi and MD (Maximum Distortion) learning curve which is represents the convergence performance and SER which is represents the roburstness of noise were used. As a result of simulation, the CR-MMA has more superior to the MMA. And it was confirmed that the CR-MMA has roburstness to the noise in the SER performance.

  • Aging and severe environments are major causes of damage in reinforced concrete (RC) structures such as buildings and bridges. Deterioration such as concrete cracks, corrosion of steel, and deformation of structural members can significantly degrade the structural performance and safety. Therefore, effective and easy-to-use methods are desired for repairing and strengthening such concrete structures. Various methods for strengthening and rehabilitation of RC structures have been developed in the past several decades. Recently, FRP composite materials have emerged as a cost-effective alternative to the conventional materials for repairing, strengthening, and retrofitting deteriorating/deficient concrete structures, by externally bonding FRP laminates to concrete structural members. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) in predicting behavior of circular type concrete column retrofitted with FRP. To construct training and testing dataset, experiment results for the specimens which have different retrofit profile are used. Retrofit ratio, strength of existing concrete, thickness, number of layer, stiffness, ultimate strength of fiber and size of specimens are selected as input parameters to predict strength, strain, and stiffness of post-yielding modulus. These proposed ANFIS models show reliable increased accuracy in predicting constitutive properties of concrete retrofitted by FRP, compared to the constitutive models suggested by other researchers.

  • The capability to bilaterally telemanipulate soft-tissues for medical applications could increase the quality of telemanipulation systems. Since most soft-tissue manipulation tasks include constrained motion interacting with an unknown and dynamic bioenvironment through contact, bilateral telemanipulation raises problems due to stability and transparency issues. It is well understood that knowledge of environments plays an important role in pursuing transparent telemanipulation and achieving telepresence, and in particular, online estimation of environmental parameters with an explicit environment model can improve these systems' performance. In this study, a continuum mechanics-based environment model with an online environmental property estimation algorithm and an adaptive telemanipulation control scheme is proposed. The proposed method can improve the telemanipulation performance in terms of stability and transparency and can offer valuable information (e.g., elastic modulus of soft tissues) pertaining to diagnostic examinations.
