  • Applications in ubiquitous environments should provide the best services to users by considering the changes of users requirements and service environments, and should adapt service behaviors to the underlying platform's behaviors according to contextual changes. To reflect users requirements actively and provide more flexible services, we propose 2-level context adaptation method for supporting dynamic application adaptability in contextual changes. We offend the range of contexts to users requirements for supporting context adaptation. It can reflect users preferences in offering application services. For application adaptability, we use adaptation policies to allow applications require how they adapt to specific contexts, and to make them react actively on such situations.

  • Objectives : Acupuncture therapy is known as a effective method to CVA with paralysis. To make clear about effectiveness of acupuncture affecting to active and static postural adaptation for the patient with hemiparesis, we studied whether acupuncture changed ability of maintenance with one leg standing posture, and character of gait such as gait velocity, cadence, stride length, step length and base of support. Methods : This clinical study has been carried out with 10 cases of CVA patient with hemiparesis. We treated patients with acupuncture for 4 weeks, estimated each paralytic leg and well leg before 1st treatment and after last treatment, and compared the change of one leg with the other. To estimate the change of ability of static postural adaptation, we checked the time of duration with one leg standing posture. And about active postural adaptation, we used temporal distance gait analysis with Ink-Foot-Print method. Results and Conclusions : In static postural adaptation, paralytic leg significantly improved the duration with one leg posture. And In active postural adaptation with gait analysis, paralytic leg showed significant improvement in stride length and step length. Base of support and cadence were also significantly improved.

  • Recently, self-adaptive system researches have been done to solve the problems occurred in the dynamic environment. Designing requirement in the self-adaptive system is necessary to recognize and solve the problem for the system, and if a developer reuses existing adaptation strategy to design the requirement, the designing time and cost would be reduced. Therefore, this paper proposes the system which extracts reusable adaptation strategy from the existing self-adaptive system. For the proposal, this paper conceptualizes the self-adaptation elements, defines the adaptation strategy ontology and target system ontology, and presents the process of extracting reusable strategy. This paper also implements proposed system and evaluates the reuse rate of the extracted strategy. As a result, the adaptation strategies extracted by proposed system are exactly operated, and the extraction method of proposed system shows higher reuse rate than a previous method.

  • In a distributed system environment based on a service-oriented architecture, separate systems collaborate to achieve the goals of the entire system by using services provided other systems. A service quality violation from using one service can cause runtime system failure in the environment. The existing self-adaptation methods follow fault tolerance mechanism that responds to a failure after a service quality violation. In other words, these methods are limited to responsive action. Therefore, a service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism is necessary to preserve the dependability of the self-adaptive system. This paper demonstrates that the service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism is better than QoS(quality of service)-based self-adaptation with fault tolerance to preserve the dependability of the self-adaptive system. Additionally, this paper suggests a method to present and analyze service dependability by using GSN(Goal Structuring Notation) which is the existing modeling method for the presentation of assurance cases, an action mechanism adapted using an analysis result of service-dependability-cases, a methods of leveraging the service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism by following the service's life cycle, and the framework architecture including the major components and the interactions between the components in the control loop of the self-adaptation process.

  • This study was focused on investigating the factors of the psychological adaptation of grandmothers raising their grandchildren. The Double ABCX family stress model provided the theoretical basis for this study, and the major factors examined in the study included a pile-up of stressors, family resources and social support, appraisal of situation(redefinition of nurturing), and adaptation(depressive mood and happiness). Data were collected by personal interview with 213 grandmothers raising their grandchildren utilizing the questionnaire survey method. Structural equation modeling analyses were performed and the results showed that a pile-up of stressors, the family resources(i.e., contact and emotional solidarity with grandchildren's parents), and the redefinition of nurturing had significant influences on the psychological adaptation of grandmothers raising their grandchildren. It was also found that social support had indirect influence on grandmothers' psychological adaptation. The redefinition of nurturing had the greatest effect on the participants' psychological adaptation, followed by a pile-up stressor, and then the family resources.
