  • Generating a project network of a specific construction project is very time consuming and difficult task in the field. To effectiviely automate and support the planning process, we design a case-based project planning expert system inspired by the fact a human expert project planner uses previous cases for planning a new project. A construction project case consist of its specific characteristics and the corresponding project network (i.e. project plan). Using frame based representation. we represent the project features affecting the progress network and the entities composing the project plan such as the buildings, construction methods, WBS (work breakdown structure), activities, and resources. The project planning process runs through most similar case retrieval, case adaptation, and user requirement satisfaction. We represent the construction domain knowledge for each procedure using constraints and rules. We develop the methodology for constraint-based case adaption. Case adaptation process mainly consist of activity generation/deletion and predecence constraint satisfaction, for which we develop the dynamic constraint generation method and connect user-level requirement representation the system-level network modification knowledge. The methodology is being applied to the prototype for apartment construction project planning.

  • Genetic Algorithm(GA), that is shown stable performance to find an optimal solution, has been used as a method of solving large-scaled optimization problems with complex constraints in various applications. Since it takes so much time to execute a long computation process for iterative evolution and adaptation. In this paper, a hardware-based adaptive GA was proposed to reduce the serious computation time of the evolutionary process and to improve the accuracy of convergence to optimal solution. The proposed GA, based on steady-state model among continuos generation model, performs an adaptive mutation process with consideration of the evolution flow and the population diversity. The drawback of the GA, premature convergence, was solved by the proposed adaptation. The Performance improvement of convergence accuracy for some kinds of problem and condition reached to 5-100% with equivalent convergence speed to high-speed algorithm. The proposed adaptive GAP(Genetic Algorithm Processor) was implemented on FPGA device Xilinx XCV2000E of EHW board for face recognition.

  • Classical literature texts have been transmitted and recreated as subjective meanings in a wide variety of genres. Authors recreate another world with their own imagination and classical literature texts. This study has been conducted to analysis 'OnDal's Dream' which is an adaptation from 'OnDalJeon' in order to figure out the method of inheritance and the subject and message of the adaptation. The process of inheritance and acculturation appears in the literary world. Some adaptations stick to the genre of the original text, other adaptations change to various genres. There is the process of inheritance and acculturation in the aspect of structure of the adaptation 'OnDal's Dream'. lntertextuality can be found between 'OnDalJeon' and 'OnDal's Dream' in terms of the stages such as 'confrontation' between the ego and the world and 'overcoming' hardships. However, the recreation text has acculturation of the structure that shows the potential desire for elevation of social status at the end part of the work so I could possibly show that the adaptation has limitation because it was far from the dream of common people and laborers at that time. There are different structures and recognition systems between 'OnDal Jeon' and 'OnDal's Dream' because the formal is an epic tale the other is lyric tale. An epic tale has some partial symbols in its story line, while an lyric tale is a symbol as a whole. There is an exhibition of deep emotion which is subjectivized and symbolized against the world in the adaptation 'OnDal's Dream'. And the inheritance of unreality, which is acculturation to the world of dream, from the original text can be found in the adaptation. First of all, study between the original text and the recreation text should be conducted in terms of intertextuality. Secondly, an instruction on the inheritance which is based on intertextuality between the original text and the recreation text should be conducted. Thirdly, an instruction about the structure of a genre and differences of recognition systems according to inheritance or conversion of a genre. It will be helpful for children to stimulate to take an interest in classical literature texts and traditional arts, to learn more recreation texts, and to develop the practical ability to recreate works. Based on above study, an instruction which shows a spiritual value of literature should be conducted.

  • Recently, impacts and damages of extreme climate change have already affected on worldwide. Thus adaptation and action plan are essential concepts in minimizing the impacts of climate change. In order to introduce climate change adaptation decision-making measure, the need for high-quality and integrated information system within adaptation policy has increased enormously. However, most of adaptation information is based on different sources and various backgrounds. Currently, domestic climate change information is disseminated from about 132 internet sites and most of them are limited to general information of climate change, rather than information that are based on scientific evidence. Also, there are some difficulties in updating new resources. Reliable climate change information is provided from different agencies, which makes users difficult to locate right information they need. As a progress to overcome the limitations of these problems, we carried out a feasibility research on integrated information system for climate change adaptation. For the objectives, our solutions are as follows. First, we analyzed definition of climate change adaptation and climate change adaptation information. Second, we suggested integrating the information system for adaptation and phased implementation plan for establishing integrated information system for climate change. Finally, we verified the establishment of integrated support system based on policy applications of integrated information system. This system will provide an integrated climate change information and be a very useful tool to support the decision making process of effective climate change adaptation policies.

  • Recently, self-adaptive system researches have been done to solve the problems occurred in the dynamic environment. Designing requirement in the self-adaptive system is necessary to recognize and solve the problem for the system, and if a developer reuses existing adaptation strategy to design the requirement, the designing time and cost would be reduced. Therefore, this paper proposes the system which extracts reusable adaptation strategy from the existing self-adaptive system. For the proposal, this paper conceptualizes the self-adaptation elements, defines the adaptation strategy ontology and target system ontology, and presents the process of extracting reusable strategy. This paper also implements proposed system and evaluates the reuse rate of the extracted strategy. As a result, the adaptation strategies extracted by proposed system are exactly operated, and the extraction method of proposed system shows higher reuse rate than a previous method.

  • In a distributed system environment based on a service-oriented architecture, separate systems collaborate to achieve the goals of the entire system by using services provided other systems. A service quality violation from using one service can cause runtime system failure in the environment. The existing self-adaptation methods follow fault tolerance mechanism that responds to a failure after a service quality violation. In other words, these methods are limited to responsive action. Therefore, a service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism is necessary to preserve the dependability of the self-adaptive system. This paper demonstrates that the service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism is better than QoS(quality of service)-based self-adaptation with fault tolerance to preserve the dependability of the self-adaptive system. Additionally, this paper suggests a method to present and analyze service dependability by using GSN(Goal Structuring Notation) which is the existing modeling method for the presentation of assurance cases, an action mechanism adapted using an analysis result of service-dependability-cases, a methods of leveraging the service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism by following the service's life cycle, and the framework architecture including the major components and the interactions between the components in the control loop of the self-adaptation process.

  • Competitive coevolution models, often called host-parasite models, are searching models that imitate the biological coevolution that is a series of reciprocal changes in two competing species. The models are known to be an effective method of solving complex and dynamic problems such as game problems, neural network design problems and constraint satisfaction problems. However, previous models consider only ectoparasites that live on the outside of the host when designing the models, not considering endoparasites that live on the inside of the host. This has a limitation to exploiting some information. In this paper, we develop an artificial adaptation model simulating the process in which hosts coevolve with both ectoparasites and endoparasites. In the model, the endoparasites play important roles as follows. By means of them, we can keep the history on results of previous competition between hosts and parasites, and use endogeneous fitness, not exogeneous. Extensive experiments are carried out to show the coevolution phenomenon and to verify the performance of the proposed model. Nim game problems and neural network problems are used as test-bed problems. The results are reported in this paper.
