  • Recently, eye image information has been widely used for iris recognition or gaze detection in biometrics or human computer interaction. According as long distance camera-based system is increasing for user's convenience, the noises such as eyebrow, forehead and skin areas which can degrade the accuracy of eye detection are included in the captured image. And fast processing speed is also required in this system in addition to the high accuracy of eye detection. So, we compared the most widely used algorithms for eye detection such as AdaBoost eye detection algorithm, adaptive template matching+AdaBoost algorithm, CAMShift+AdaBoost algorithm and rapid eye detection method. And these methods were compared with images including light changes, naive eye and the cases wearing contact lens or eyeglasses in terms of accuracy and processing speed.

  • Terrain classification is still a challenging issue in image processing, especially with high resolution satellite images. The well-known obstacles include low accuracy in the detection of targets, especially for the case of man-made structures, such as buildings and roads. In this paper, we present an efficient approach to classify and detect building footprints, foliage, grass and road from high resolution grayscale satellite images. Our contribution is to build a strong classifier using AdaBoost based on a combination of co-occurrence and Haar-like features. We expect that the inclusion of Harr-like feature improves the classification performance of the man-made structures, since Haar-like feature is extracted from corner features and rectangle features. Also, the AdaBoost algorithm selects only critical features and generates an extremely efficient classifier. Experimental result indicates that the classification accuracy of AdaBoost classifier is much higher than that of the conventional classifier using back propagation algorithm. Also, the inclusion of Harr-like feature significantly improves the classification accuracy. The accuracy of the proposed method is 98.4% for the target detection and 92.8% for the classification on high resolution satellite images.

  • This paper proposes a new method to improve performance of AdaBoost by using a distance weight function to increase the accuracy of its machine learning processes. The proposed distance weight algorithm improves classification in areas where the original binary classifier is weak. This paper derives the new algorithm's optimal solution, and it demonstrates how classifier accuracy can be improved using the proposed Distance Sensitive AdaBoost in a simulation experiment of pedestrian detection.

  • In this paper, we focus on solving the classification problem by using semisupervised learning strategy. Traditional classifiers are constructed based on labeled data in supervised learning. Labeled data, however, are often difficult, expensive or time consuming to obtain, as they require the efforts of experienced human annotators. Unlabeled data are significantly easier to obtain without human efforts. Thus, we use AdaBoost algorithm with SVM-KNN classifier to apply semisupervised learning problem and improve the classifier performance. Experimental results on both artificial and UCI data sets show that the proposed methodology can reduce the error rate.

  • In this paper, we converted an RGB into an YCbCr image input from CCD camera and then after compute difference two consecutive images, conduct Glassfire Labeling. We extract an image become ware of motion-change, if the difference between most broad(area) and Area critical value more than critical value. We enforce the detection of facial characteristics to an extracted motion-change images by using AdaBoost algorithm to extract an characteristics.

  • AdaBoost tweaks the sample weight for each training set used in the iterative process, however, it is demonstrated that it provides more correlated errors as the boosting iteration proceeds if models' accuracy is high enough. Therefore, in this study, we propose a novel way to improve the performance of the existing AdaBoost algorithm by employing heterogeneous models and a stochastic twist. By employing the heterogeneous ensemble, it ensures different models that have a different initial assumption about the data are used to improve on diversity. Also, by using a stochastic algorithm with a decaying convergence rate, the model is designed to balance out the trade-off between model prediction performance and model convergence. The result showed that the stochastic algorithm with decaying convergence rate's did have a improving effect and outperformed other existing boosting techniques.

  • Redundant handovers cause degraded quality of service to passengers in vehicle. This paper proposes a handover scheme suitable for users traveling in vehicles, which enables continuous learning of the handover process using a discrete-time Markov chain (DTMC). Through AdaBoost machine learning algorithm, the proposed handover scheme avoids unnecessary handover trials when a short dwell time in a target cell is expected or when the target cell is an intermediate cell through which the vehicle quickly passes. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the number of handover occurrences and maintains adequate throughput.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm capable of detecting vehicles in front or in rear using a monocular camera installed in a vehicle. The vehicle detection has been regarded as an important part of intelligent vehicle technologies. The proposed algorithm is mainly composed of two parts: 1)hypothesis generation of vehicles, and 2)hypothesis verification. The hypotheses of vehicles are generated by the analysis of vertical and horizontal edges and the detection of symmetry axis. The hypothesis verification, which determines vehicles among hypotheses, is done by the AdaBoost algorithm. The proposed algorithm is proven to be effective through experiments performed on various images captured on the roads.

  • We present an improved AdaBoost algorithm to avoid overfitting phenomenon. AdaBoost is widely known as one of the best solutions for object detection. However, AdaBoost tends to be overfitting when a training dataset has noisy samples. To avoid the overfitting phenomenon of AdaBoost, the proposed method divides positive samples into K clusters using k-means algorithm, and then uses only one cluster to minimize the training error at each iteration of weak learning. Through this, excessive partitions of samples are prevented. Also, noisy samples are excluded for the training of weak learners so that the overfitting phenomenon is effectively reduced. In our experiment, the proposed method shows better classification and generalization ability than conventional boosting algorithms with various real world datasets.

  • Text filtering is a task of deciding whether a document has relevance to a specified topic. As Internet and Web becomes wide-spread and the number of documents delivered by e-mail explosively grows the importance of text filtering increases as well. The aim of this paper is to improve the accuracy of text filtering systems by using machine learning techniques. We apply AdaBoost algorithms to the filtering task. An AdaBoost algorithm generates and combines a series of simple hypotheses. Each of the hypotheses decides the relevance of a document to a topic on the basis of whether or not the document includes a certain word. We begin with an existing AdaBoost algorithm which uses weak hypotheses with their output of 1 or -1. Then we extend the algorithm to use weak hypotheses with real-valued outputs which was proposed recently to improve error reduction rates and final filtering performance. Next, we attempt to achieve further improvement in the AdaBoost's performance by first setting weights randomly according to the continuous Poisson distribution, executing AdaBoost, repeating these steps several times, and then combining all the hypotheses learned. This has the effect of mitigating the ovefitting problem which may occur when learning from a small number of data. Experiments have been performed on the real document collections used in TREC-8, a well-established text retrieval contest. This dataset includes Financial Times articles from 1992 to 1994. The experimental results show that AdaBoost with real-valued hypotheses outperforms AdaBoost with binary-valued hypotheses, and that AdaBoost iterated with random weights further improves filtering accuracy. Comparison results of all the participants of the TREC-8 filtering task are also provided.
