Objectives : The objective of this study is to review the Trend of clinical trials conducted with the acupuncture treatment on Atopic Dermatitis. Methods : Through 4 foreign online databases(PubMed, Cochrane library, EMBASE, CNKI) and 3 domestic online databases(NDSL, RISS, OASIS), we searched for clinical studies performed acupuncture treatment for Atopic Dermatitis from 2010 to December 2019. Only randomized controlled trials(RCT) was selected and anlayzed according to the research method. Results : A total 4 studies were reviewed. LI11, ST36, SP10 were most frequently used acupoints in acupuncture treatment. Among the evaluation indexes, SCORAD, VAS, DLQI were used most. In most of the 4 studies, acupuncture treatment showed significant therapeutic effects. Conclusions : These results suggest that it is necessary to develop more detailed standards about Acupuncture treatment method as the method of acupuncture is getting more diverse, and objective tools are needed in evaluating Atopic Dermatitis.

Dural ectasia is defined as ballooning or expansion of the dural sac surrounding the spinal cord. This report describes a rare case of low back pain and sciatica, suspected as being dural ectasia. The patient was hospitalized for 45 days, and underwent integrative Korean medical treatment, including pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, herbal medicine, Chuna therapy, cupping therapy, and physiotherapy. The effect of the treatment was evaluated using the numerical rating scale, Oswestry disability index, European quality of life 5 dimensions, and subjective symptoms. After inpatient treatment, the pain the patient experienced was significantly reduced and the evaluation indices improved. This case report suggested that integrative Korean medical treatment could be an effective therapeutic choice for low back pain and sciatica, with dural ectasia. Further clinical studies are needed to support this observation.

Objectives: This review is aimed at assessing the efficacy and effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for interstitial cystitis patients through literature research and overview. Methods: Database searching was conducted to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and clinical studies on the acupuncture treatment for interstitial cystitis patients. Studies were searched from Journal of Korean Obstetrics and Gynecology, KISS, KMBASE, CNKI, Cochrane library, PubMed and EmBase up to April 2019. Results: Five studies including three RCTs and two clinical studies were finally selected. Three studies showed that acupuncture was effective for interstitial cystitis. One study showed ineffectiveness of acupuncture treatment. Conclusions: From three studies, acupuncture treatment for interstitial cystitis patients showed symptoms relief and improvement of QoL (Quality of Life). Further strictly designed studies are needed to confirm the efficacy and setup the acupuncture treatment protocol.

The aim of this study was to report on the resorption of herniated nucleus pulposus following acupotomy treatment. Two patients were treated with acupotomy which included integrative Korean Medicine treatment, for either cervical, or lumbar herniated nucleus pulposus. Magnetic Resonance Imaging was used to produce images before and after (several months) treatment. The Numerical Rating Scale scores and Range of Motion were used to assess the patients at admission and discharge. In both cases, substantial resorption of the respective herniated disc was observed in the magnetic resonance images, with a decrease in the Numerical Rating Scale score. Range of Motion improved in 1 case. This study shows that acupotomy treatment may be a clinically effective treatment for herniated nucleus pulposus resorption and pain relief.

The purpose of this study was to review randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of pes anserinus tendinitis or bursitis (PATB) syndrome in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure database to investigate the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine treatment for PATB syndrome. There were 20 RCTs published from 2001 to 2021 which were selected for analysis by publication year, number of samples, evaluation criteria, treatment duration, and treatment method. Out of the 142 retrieved RCTs, 20 were relevant to this review, and had performed Chinese medicine treatments including acupuncture (the most common treatment typically using acupoints SP10, ST35, SP9, and LR8), manipulation (typically using acupoints ST35, SP10, and SP9), and external application therapy (typically herbal medicine) in the treatment of PATB syndrome. Chinese medicine treatments were used widely in the treatment of PATB syndrome. We hope in the future, this review may initiate the development of treatments for PATB syndrome using Korean medicine.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of electro-acupuncture treatment for low back pain and radicular pain in patients diagnosed with Lumbar HIVD. Methods : This clinical study was carried out on 92 patients with low back pain and radicular pain diagnosed with HIVD, who had been admitted from Mar. 2011 to Dec. 2011. 60 patients were divided into two groups, group A and group B, of 46 patients each. Group A was treated with electro-acupuncture treatment and general acupuncture treatment twice per day for more than 2 weeks. Group B was treated with general acupuncture treatment twice per day for more than 2 weeks. Verbal numerical rating scale(VNRS) and Oswestry disability index(ODI) were used to evaluated the effectiveness of the Oriental medical treatment. Results : In both two groups, VNRS, ODI, patient's condition grade decreased significantly in ststistics as treatment was perfomed. Between the two groups there was no significant difference in the VNRS, patient's condition grade. But there was significant difference in the ODI. Conclusions : These results suggest that both electro-acupuncture and general acupuncture were effective in reducing low back pain and radicular pain caused by HIVD. More systematic clinical stuty on electro-acupuncture is needed.

Objectives : The objective of this study was to report a effectiveness of meridian tendino-musculature acupuncture on the pelvic pain and dysuria in a patient with chronic prostatitis. Methods : A patient with Pelvic pain and Dysuria was treated with acupuncture and moxibustion. Before and After treatment we measured International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS), National Institutes of Health-Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index(NIH-CPSI) and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results : International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS), National Institutes of Health -Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index(NIH-CPSI) and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) scores were decreased considerably after 14 times treatment. Conclusions : It was suggesting that symptoms(pelvic pain and dysuria) of chronic prostatitis could be improved by acupuncture and moxibustion treatment in the view of the meridian tendino- musculature acupuncture.

Objectives : The aim of this report was to investigate the effects of scalp acupuncture on central post-stroke pain. Methods : We treated a patient with central post-stroke pain from Lt thalamo-geniculate artery territory infarction with scalp acupuncture(MS6 and MS7) and usual treatment of Korean medicine. We evaluated pain severity using numerical rating scale(NRS). The scalp acupuncture was performed once a day for 3 weeks. Results : After 15th treatment of scalp acupuncture, NRS decreased from 8 to 3. Conclusions : This result suggests that scalp acupuncture(MS6 and MS7) is effective in treating central post-stroke pain. We hope that more clinical data and studies are to be done for efficient application.

Objective : Many methods have been used for treatment of facial nerve paralysis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical difference between acupuncture therapy and acupuncture-oriental herb medicine therapy. Materials and Methods : From 05-01-2000 to 01-30-2001, 46 facial paralysis patients who were hospitalzed and treated more than five times at the Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion of Dongguk University Bundang Oriental Medical Hospital were selected for two group. One group(A group) was treated by acupuncture therapy, the other group(B group) was treated by acupuncture and oriental herb medicine therapy. A group was composed of 15 patients and B group was 31 patients. Results and Conclusion : As the results of study, both acupuncture therapy and acupunture-oriental herb medicine therapy were usable for facial nerve paralysis treatment. But, we could not discover any available difference between acupuncture therapy group and acupuncture-oriental herb medicine therapy group.

Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the effect of Jung-an acupuncture on Bell's palsy(peripheral facial paralysis) patients. Methods : We investigated 24 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis. The patients were divided into two groups. Both Group A, B were treated with general acupuncture and Group A was added to treatment with Jung-an acupuncture. We evaluated the treatment effect of each group three times by using Yanagihara's unweighted grading system. Results : As a result of evaluation by using Yanagihara score, they were not significant scores between two groups after treatment. Conclusions : Jung-an acupuncture and general Acupuncture has significant effect on acute(before 4 weeeks at onset) Bell's palsy. But there is no statistical significance in Jung-an acupuncture on acute phase(within 4 weeks of onset).
